  1. Came looking for help on another topic and saw this. Why not just make a scene fan 1. Make A a controller of that scene. Press A and the fan turns on, press it again and it turns off. One button for each fan is all you need. Same for the lights.
  2. Also check this link http://forum.smarthome.com/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=14571
  3. I’ll keep searching, but check this link. http://forum.smarthome.com/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=13822 Not sure is stusviews is still active, I would guess yes. If so just contact him. Playing with switches and making a 4 button is fun. However, from a functional standpoint you can make much better use from a 6 or 8 button configuration.
  4. I used to be on this and the smarthome forum all the time, been off for a while. What you are describing has been done by stusviews and some others. For example, 4 large buttons. I don’t recall much in the way of modification to get the large button to fit across two smaller ones, but maybe some shaving of the frame was needed. I’m going to try to find the thread for you, but I looked briefly the other night and could not. I think there was cross-linking of the adjacent buttons. Maybe one was a controller and the other a responder One issue was the backlights. There would be an unlit area in the center of the button. keep working on it, it has been done so you can do it again.
  5. Success. Sort of. I thought the 0 in the address was an eight. Also looks like a B. I installed my first insteon device about 7 years ago and have many more than listed in my sig. The font used for the address labels has changed over time, not for the better. not sure why the device would not add when I put it into linking mode and set the isy to start linking. A lot of my devices are out of service right now due to the renovation and some breakers in the house are off. Communications may not be as reliable as usual thank you again for your help.
  6. Yes, definitely did a full reset. To be more specific, the replacement device had already been added to the isy using my bench top set up (electrical box with extension cord), prior to placement in the bathroom. Once installed, the replacement device had no comm issues, had to remove it from another scene and added secondary buttons to other scenes. There are at least 10 other devices on this circuit with no comm issues, although I only added one device after installation which was the replacement for the faulty switchlinc. The other devices were either programmed from my bench top or devices pulled before the remodel.
  7. Thank you for your replies. Possiblya communication issue, but I replaced the device with another which works fine in the same location. I’ll test with my bench top set up. Suspect it’s a device issue.
  8. Sorry, should have included that in my original post. I did that, same result.
  9. I have not posted in a while, system has been working fine. We are nearly finished remodeling our bathroom, thank goodness for deep boxes. I am getting rid of some older kpl 8 button dimmer in exchange for KPL6 switches. The KPL dimmers last the shortest of all devices, I have unused buttons, and the 6 buttons are more user friendly in that top is on, bottom off. I digress. I was able to add a brand new 6 button 2487S revision 7.2 but this comes up as v.44. I tried to add another, same model, and get cannot determine insteon engine. I tried to add manually by selecting 2487S from the drop down and get the same error. I also tried adding by putting the device into linking mode. When I did this the flashing light pattern on the device changed, but it did not add. Running firmware and UI 4.6.2. I wonder if it is a bad device. I have a brand new switch link that kept cutting off and on. Any advice would be appreciated. Eric
  10. Stu,Secondary buttons have turned on for me. I can't recall the exact issue right now, but I had trouble turning a button off. It may have been set to non toggle on, then turns off by a program after being pressed. Whatever the issue was I now have a button that is a recovery button. If I have to press it, which I have not needed to since I ditched my motion sensors, all timer programs run and all kpls that should be off turn off. I can use my away button to turn everything off, or just run around the house to do so.
  11. I'm not exactly sure what you are asking and how you have the MS set up to turn the fan off. If you want button H to turn off then you have to create a scene (ex: "Fan Off button H") with button H as a responder. Then set the "Fan Off button H" scene off when the fan is turned off. If you want the button on when the fan is turned off, then set that scene on.
  12. Maybe we are imagining these events. I do think the cause is a signal collision that devices then interpret as an all on command. Since the all on command is real it is obviously the cause and being generated somehow. I suspect that it has to be a combination of specific device addresses including an on command to create a false all on. This is why some people never experience it.
  13. Yes Teken, I have read everything in these forums about the all on event. Here is the thread I created about my dead PLM.http://forum.universal-devices.com/topic/17734-i-think-my-new-plm-is-dead-please-help/?hl=erick&do=findComment&comment=160506
  14. I've not been coming on this forum as much lately, but wanted to give an update about my system. All was well until I began to have some all on events. I tried all recs to stop this behavior including swapping out my nearly two year old plm. The replacement died in about 6 weeks so I bought a new one from Amazon. I still had an all on with the replacement so that did not fix things. Still have not been able to get thru to smart home to replace the replacement. In any case, I pulled my two motion sensors out of service. One was in our mud room, which my wife did not like anyway. The other was in the pantry. Initially I had this set up to turn the lights on with a scene then off with a program. I changed this in an effort to prevent all on events so the off was controlled by the MS. This was annoying since I would turn off the lights but motion would immediately trigger them back on. Since I got rid of the motion sensors I have not had another all on event. Knock on wood. May just be coincidence, but hopefully not. My system also just seems to be working more reliably. I still have a kpl button set up to control a recovery program to turn everything off then run timer programs in case we have another all on event.
  15. Thank you Amazon!. New PLM arrived Sunday morning. Restore PLM in progress. I have about 8 or 9 leak sensors stashed around, will be a pain to restore.
  16. Scary to think that they could just stop making the plm. They dropped house linc support (I still have my sub modem for that) and Have their hub. It would be a silly decision but you never know. To reiterate, my nearly two year old plm was working fine. Something could have happened in the house, but everything else is working just fine. I exchanged to hopefully stop my all on events which I'm not sure had anything to do with the plm. For all I know they sent me a refurbished model.
  17. My plm is still not seen by the ISY. My landscape lights are plugged into an appliance linc that runs on an ISY timer program. They were on last night, but off this morning. The only way to turn them off is to go into the garage a press the button on the appliance linc. I also noticed that a kpl button for our hallway lights came on which also had to be triggered by a timer program. The load and another kpl button did not turn on. Strange things are afoot.
  18. Yes, I followed this procedure a couple of times.
  19. I was thinking about getting a backup, but considering I just got a brand new one I thought I had some time. The admin console shows safe mode and I cannot access programs now so I don't think any will try to run. When I first went to the admin console tonight I was able to see programs. I don't have any non site on modules. Thanks for your help.
  20. Paul, Thanks for the advice. I tried the reset of the PLM and no dice. I did check more closely on Amazon and can get a new PLM, which I just ordered on Sunday. I'll them RMA mine for a new one with Smarthome as a back-up. Not sure how things will go without timers and I may also get a bunch of notifications due to incorrect statuses. Maybe I should just unplug the ISY until i get the new PLM.
  21. I had smarthome switch out my nearly 2 year old PLM since I was having all on events, hoping this would help. I got the new PLM, v 2.1, about 6-8 weeks ago and got it set up fine. I got home from work late today and things were not right in the house. I noticed that a program did not trigger from a double tap of a switchlinc. Some lights were on that were obviously trigger by programs, but the shades in our bedroom did not close on a program. I got a message that a garage door was open when it was closed. I logged into the ISY and there were a number of devices that the isy was not able to communicate with, mostly single band KPLs. I then realized that several other programs were not working. I restarted the isy and it went into safe mode saying that no plm is connected and verified this under plm status. I have unplugged the isy and plm, plugged in the plm, then the isy, and still it shows that no plm is connected. I tried a new network cable with the same result. Can i even try to restore the plm since the isy does not see it. The soonest I could get a new plm is 5 days from now thru amazon, given the holiday. Huge bummer for me and for my kids because now I cannot do light on for 10 minutes. Advice would be appreciated. Eric
  22. I do this with several kpl buttons throughout the house. I do not need the kpl button on or for it to reflect the status of any other device. I would consider creating a scene 'dads bedtime' for at least the first three devices/scenes. Or maybe just add a wait in between each line to allow traffic to clear. However the benefit of using individual lines like you have it is if you add a device to one of those scenes, then you don't need to change the new 'dads bedtime' scene. Now if you can get the kpl button into a non toggle off state, then do that. Program would be if control kpl,is off then.
  23. Sorry for not getting back to this, but between work and switching out my PLM, I put this on the back burner. 'Great Room / Great Room Devices / GR Spots KPL (DB) - A Spots' - This is the device that is directly connected to the load. 'Great Room / Great Room Devices / GR Spots' - This is a secondary device that is not connected to the load. Was in a physical 3-way before the prior owner replaced with X10. 25. Lee, I installed these devices 5 years ago and bought an ISY two years ago so I could not remember which was the load controller. The other day I pulled the air gap on the switchlinc to confirm it is the kpl that is wired to the load. Thank you for explaining this. I will edit my program tonight if I have time and test this out. Eric
