Good news, I finally got it all put together as well as a hack to bridge the two serialports logically inside the Raspberry Pi and waddayaknow, it works. It actually works 100% so far, meaning that the ISY994 didn't realize that it's talking to the 2448A7 via a linux bridge and performance is no different than before. Reliability on my network also went way up, I (knock on wood) haven't had any failed operations, whilst my old PLM couldn't do much anything anymore. Obviously right now it's a horrible hack, but expect an update in a few days with pictures and github link. Right now I'm waiting for a better RS232-to-TTL which should arrive next week. End goal is to make a SD card image for the RPi Zero where you use the onboard UART to talk to ISY994 and the USB port to connect to the 2448A7 usb plug. Stay tuned .. but for now, some pictures to prove it exists

I have a number of devices on my Insteon network which are highlighted needing writes. But whenever I do, they never succeed. Instead I see `Open failed for [/CONF/NODES/UNOxxx.BIN] (w)` in my log where xxx is a number. I also see same error for /CONF/4B5633.REC and more. It feels like my ISY's SD card might be corrupted. Anyone seen this and have suggestions on what to do?

Just found out today that insteon seems to have given up on the serial PLM and availability is very scarce (not to mention non-existent). But I also found that they had a RF only PLM called 2448A7. Now, if I understand things correctly, the ISY994 PLM port is nothing more than a serial port, and while the 2448A7 is USB, it actually just exposes a serial port as well (but over USB). My plan was to do a quick "hack" where I take a RaspberryPi, connect a 2448A7 and a USB to serial port adapter and then build a cable to go between my Raspberry and the ISY994. The thinking being that I could cobble together a gateway on the Pi which would open the port to the insteon usb device and basically forward all comms to the other USB adapter and thus connect the ISY994 to the USB Insteon. Does it sound sane? I think it does, but I'm wondering if anyone has the pin-out for the ISY994i port and also what signal level it uses (5V, 3.3V, etc..) so I don't burn something. If it's 3.3 I should in theory be able to use the serial port built-in to the Pi, but that seems a bit optimistic So what's the question? I need the lay of the land of the PLM port on the ISY994 so I can custombuild that cable and avoid frying it if it's expecting 3.3V

Stupid question perhaps, and sorry if I missed it, but what's the difference between the old ZWave cards and the new gen3?

Sorry, I should have been more clear, that was just an excerpt of the log, ALL zwave devices show the same error, no zwave device is able to communicate until I do the following: Reboot ISY Change antenna Then it works for about 8-24hrs and then it fail again. (for some reason quoting didn't happen @lilyoyo1 @simplextech)

Odd, I changed antenna from internal to external and now it's seeing nodes again.

Nope, power cycle made no difference. Running Zwave 4.55.00 bootloader 1.03 on a (Oups, I see I never upgraded to version B. But still, it should still have been able to use Z-wave.)

Today when I woke up I found that the ISY no longer was able to communicate over ZWave. All zwave devices are marked as offline all of the sudden. I tried rebooting the ISY994 but it made no difference. And we're talking about Aeotec Repeaters, GE Outlets, Aeotec Motion sensors with USB power, Fibraro LED controllers, essentially everything which should have been working. And when I move one of the repeaters close and press the button to do a mesh health check (it will simply try to communicate with the ISY) it shows red. It's as if the ZWave card is fried. I'm running 5.0.16B and I had removed and re-paired all zwave devices after that. And yesterday it was working fine. Today I cannot even heal the network because it thinks no devices are responding. After upgrading from the last stable 4.x version to this, I was hoping that the Zwave support would be better (had some devices which had nodes which wouldn't show up) but instead I find that most of my battery operated sensors (Aeotec recessed door sensors) now rarely works. It will join all right and it works for what seems for 24hrs but then I keep getting errors from ISY saying that it cannot query the sensors (well, duh, it's battery operated so dead until door opens/closes). Anyone else experienced this with 5.0.16RC1 and battery operated devices (especially aeotec recessed door sensor gen 5).

I just find it odd it would take 5 years to happen to one KPL for case #2 and a few months for case #1 and every other KPL (4 more) work fine at 5years with 2-6 LEDs of the exact same make and brand (yeah, I know, I jinxed it now ).

In case #1, the KPL could turn off the load, no problem, just the local button on the KPL didn't work at all, neither on/off In case #2, the KPL isn't even controlling the load. It's simply issuing the DON/DOF command to the scene, which is connected to a SwitchLinc Dimmer which works just fine. It did however show the correct state once the state was changed from any other member of the scene. All other buttons worked except for the office button. Even the on/off for the 2x 10w LED lights (yes, same kind). The real pain I see here is that my entire house runs on LED lighting connected to SwitchLinc or KeypadLinc Dimmers. If the snubber solves this, that would be awesome. But what I don't get is that Insteon lists the devices as compatible with LED lighting (incandescent lighting and inductive Loads, see http://www.smarthome.com/insteon-2334-222-keypad-dimmer-switch-dual-band-8-button-white.html, specs section) ... Is there any way to confirm that my LED lights are inductive ?

Here's the video showing the issue I was having last night: https://goo.gl/photos/EAqu3emBCvZHZdhC6 The device which is malfunctioning isn't connected the load (which might be obvious since I'm not using button #1 but hey ) I resolved it by factory reset the device, but I'm concerned that TWO devices in TWO days malfunctioned the same way, with the only difference being that on one device it wasn't able to toggle its own load locally but it worked from any other member of the scene.

I thought it was clear from my posts that the device itself is able to control the connected load, it's just that (in case #1) that the keypad ON the device wouldn't work while all other members of the scene could control it. And in case #2 the device which was malfunctioning wasn't the one with the attached load. So the testing you're proposing isn't useful and in my case impossible since these lights are built-in LEDs and cannot be changed without replacing the can in the ceiling.

So the KeypadLinc Dimmer now works after the restore. But now another KeypadLinc Dimmer is behaving similarly. It's unable to properly handle a scene which controls the light in an adjacent room. I've tried air gapping it but it does not help. It's able to issue the power on, but it never realizes that power has changed. The room light turns on and other controllers (including the previous day KeypadLinc Dimmer) is showing the correct status. I've tried unplugging EVERY SINGLE electrical item on that circuit but it made no difference. I've airgapped all other devices which are related to this scene and still no change. And it works. Another difference is that the working device will change indicator to ON almost immediately, while the non-functional one will flash the pressed scene button and give up. In both cases, the light in the room turns on but only on the 40.* device will the button show the status. I've recorded a video of this and will share as soon as it's available on youtube since a video says more than a thousand words. I'm also factory resetting it to see if it helps.

It's controlling 4x 60w equivalent CREE LED lights. These kind of lights are used throughout our home without any issues, both with SwitchLinc Dimmers and other KeypadLinc Dimmers. The KeypadLinc was able to turn off the load IF I pressed OFF on another device which controlled it (ie, another member in the same scene). But direct control didn't work. After I restored the device and confirmed the links last night, it worked again. This morning, less than 12hrs later, one record in the device link table is corrupt again. ISY has it showing: E2 01 40.52.B4 01 00 01 While the KeypadLinc Dimmer claims: EA 01 40.52.B4 01 00 01 Which, according to http://forum.universal-devices.com/topic/15893-losing-control-of-dimmer/?do=findComment&comment=136807 is OK, but I'm still concerned about the fact that yesterday multiple records were corrupted (and not just the E2 vs EA issue). And the fact that the button on the dimmer was unable to turn it off even though the other members in the same scene was able to. Is there any diagnostics mode for KeypadLincs to find out if it's broken?

Has anyone ever had a KeypadLinc Dimmer (8 buttons) which won't turn off the lights attached to the dimmer? Normally, an insteon device will always control the locally connected light without any way of overriding that behavior, but I have one which will turn on the connected light but not turn it off. The logs show that the KeypadLinc is issuing what seems to be a turn on command even though it's turned on already. However, another insteon device is able to issue a off command which it responds to. When I compared the links on the device with ISY, there was discrepancies found. Which is odd since I did a complete walkthrough end of last year, doing compare and restore until all devices matched ISY database, so I know this one was correct earlier, and now it's corrupted. Did a new restore today and now it's back to showing identical. But still, the most worrisome thing here is that the 1st button, which controls the connected load, was not allowing me to turn it off, only on. Is this an indication that the entire thing is broken? LeeG, The link is on the Switch, it's kinda half-linked, so the switch listens to events from motion, but motion does not care about switch. And the problem is that ISY has a record of it. My plan is to backup, edit the <insteon id>.REC file with a hex editor and replace AA with 22 (deleted) and restore the backup. After that, I should be able to issue a restore device to the switch and presto, motion sensor should no longer trigger my switch. I'll let you know about my result later tonight

If AA is a valid one, then why can't I remove it? It has broken our house setup right now. Yes, I know (product specific) but in this case it's not valid. It causes ISY to hide the link, it makes the switch turn on when there is motion, and I cannot remove it or block it. So while valid, it's not valid for this product (2477S)
