  1. The solutions in this thread provide you an answer for this problem, but I would like to offer a third solution that you may find useful in other situations. I handle flow control through the liberal use of variables. I will apply this to your situation (only mine will be Xmas Lights). The basis of this 'rule' I follow is defining Variables as both States and Integers. - A state will trigger an If statement when it changes, where an Integer will not. Thanks for the additional info and approach. For this one I used the approach of two simple programs with Then-only actions. I have started using both Integer and State variables and yours is a good example of that. I used a combo of both kinds of variables when setting up a simple garage door control from my KPL plus a program to detect a "close" event that failed to render the door sensor off thus indicating a problem and "error" state.
  2. Thanks for the additional info. I restored it with no effect. I deleted it, did a factory reset (I think), and added it back with success. Updates were sent when set point adjusted. Unfortunately, it only worked for a few hours. When I woke in the morning I was back to silent changes again. I had to RMA one of these already. This one is acting flaky like the last one before it quit working with the random temperature changes now occurring again. Factory reset not working reliably. Looks like this one is toast, too. If the replacement that's in transit doesn't work flawlessly I'm getting rid of these and will look for a Z-wave thermostat.
  3. Ah.. I see now what you were asking. Threes devices show up as nodes in ISY for the thermostat: Main, Heat Ctl, and Cool Ctl.
  4. Again. It was NOT in HL BEFORE the problem was discovered and had never been in HL. New. Out of box. Then factory reset. Added to ISY with "Remove existing links". I only added to HL for additional troubleshooting after the problem was discovered. Being able to set the current time with HL was handy also. By "how many" nodes do mean how many links are in the device's table? Currently four.
  5. I tried to word this in such a way the discussion would not focus on HL, but I failed. To be more clear, the thermostat in question was only added to HL for troubleshooting just before the post. Formerly, it was only in ISY and had been added after a factory reset and using the "Remove Existing Links" option.
  6. Greetings. I have two 2441TH thermostats. So far they've been nothing but trouble including needing to exchange them for replacements. Anyhoo…. The sticker on the device says version v1.6 although ISY reports it as v0.D. I was under the impression that newer versions of this thermostat reported all changes. When the set point is changed locally on the thermostat ISY does not reflect this change. If it is queried manually it updates correctly but never reported on its own. When running the ISY event viewer at level 3 no messages are shown when the set point is changed. If I run the HouseLinc event viewer I get a (SetPoint Heat) message every time I change the set point regardless of whether I cross the above or below the current ambient temperature. I’m not managing the thermostat in both systems. I only started up HL to troubleshoot and compare. It's normally shut down and without the thermostat in its database. Thanks.
  7. Anyone using a Zigbee or Zwave thermostat with their ISY that they can share experiences on? Looking to replace these POS Insteon Thermostats.
  8. This happens for me, too.
  9. I had problems with this too when creating an "All Off" button for the kitchen on the KPL. The button would turn on and stay on regardless of the non-toggle mode. My KPL is v.43. I'm now using Non-Toggle-Off but it's not a controller or responder in a scene. I have a scene setup for all applicable lights and buttons to be turned off and wrote a program that turns this scene "on" when that particular KPL "switched off". It blinks twice when I press it and then turns off again. All the lights go out as expected. Not sure why it wouldn't work in a scene. Seems straight forward. I'm open to other suggestions to accomplish this.
  10. There is the "Insteon Details" doc on their site. Useful but needs more. http://www.insteon.com/pdf/insteondetails.pdf The most useful information for me was the sticky on this forum under How-To's and Tutorials. viewtopic.php?f=26&t=4026 It explains how scenes are stored and triggered in devices and how the ISY w/PLM participates in that. I highly recommend you read that one.
  11. Thanks for the suggestion. I should've been more specific. I want a thermostat that I can integrate into my HA setup. I have two separate HVAC systems and also have the need for zone control. I want to control set points, zone dampers, etc based on when I'm home, when somebody is upstairs, sleeping vs not, etc. Nest is neat but I don't plan on connecting any of my home components to the internet. Bad idea. And Nest doesn't integrate with anything currently, although I read it's on the roadmap for next year. I also think they have a partnership going with Control4 as the first integration partner.
  12. I have a pair each of the Insteon 2441TH and 2441ZTH. So far they have been flaky and doing odd things. For example, the TH changes it's temp up/down by 4 degrees while in Heat mode and without using the energy button even though I don't have any programs or scenes setup in ISY. I also can't factory reset it and it's permanently stuck in "Master" mode even though it's no longer associated with the ZTH. I'm working on returning them all. Probably won't happen on XMas eve, though. So I figured I'd work on something new. I also looked at the Venstars since they have an Insteon module. Can I fully monitor and control them with ISY? I saw a lot of complaints on the Smarthome reviews about the backlight going out frequently and having to replace the whole unit.s Are there any other Insteon based products to try? Or any other options in general? I'm considering adding the Zwave module to my ISY to open up my options for more thermostats. Anyone currently using a Zwave thermostat with the ISY successfully?
  13. Yikes! Shame on them. Although, I'm sure the NSA appreciates it. I created a self-generated cert for my router using easy-rsa. I was thinking of standing up a CA on my linux box for my router, ISY, another server, and clients (for mutual auth) but instead I'll probably use smartcom.org now that I know they're free AND already trusted as a root authority by most platforms including Windows.
  14. What same issues? The problem of the original poster? If so, I wasn't suggesting it was a fix for the problem. Doesn't matter if CA and cert are valid, that's easy to work around. Just annoying. I'm not sure what you mean by "global certificate on ALL ISYs". There's no such thing as a "global" cert in certificate services. And you end with something that sounds like since something can be hacked any security efforts are pointless. Nothing changes? I think you read too much into my post. First it was just an FYI so that folks knew they could get a trusted cert for free by a CA that is already recognized by all major platforms. I specifically mentioned it wasn't necessary and but wanted encryption without the annoying pop-ups that occur to do an invalid cert being presented.
  15. This dashboard is new to me. It's not referenced anywhere in the User Guide and there's no link to it on the index page of the ISY. There's a reference to it in the Network Security Guide that is linked to when clicking "Request/Manage SSL Certificates" except the link in the guide is incorrect (/99i/ vs /9941/) so you get a 404. I just assumed the pictures in the guide were of a defunct version since they didn't match the console I'm familiar with and the URL was invalid. A) Why is the dashboard that's necessary to manage configuration not in the web index page or Admin console? Why doesn't the "Request/Manage SSL Certficates" menu option in the Admin console launch the dashboard?
  16. I noticed you chose a port about 49,152. Port numbers above there are considered "ephemeral" ports and some firewalls don't allow connections to be initiated on them. Try choosing something below 49,152.
  17. Your router's internal address is 192.168.85.100? Is that a typo? All your other references and screen shots show 192.168.1.x.
  18. You can buy a USB-Serial port adapter for your PC to use or test with the 2413S. The driver for the adapter creates a virtual serial port for Windows. The 2413U PLM works exactly the same way. It's USB from the PLM to the PC but the driver for the PLM creates a virtual serial port so the communications are actually the same.
  19. It's worth noting you can get a free SSL cert that's from a CA that is trusted by Windows, Mac, Linux, Chrome, Firefox, etc. Most of the common CAs that people are familiar with (e.g. Verisign, Entrust, etc) cost hundreds of dollars per year. This free one is called startcom.org. You don't need a publicly trusted cert. I just liking having one to avoid those annoying "untrusted cert" issues but like having strong encryption.
  20. That link is the same that pops up from the ISY when you hit "Request/Manage SSL certificates" under Help menu. The doc is for a version of ISY I don't recognize and the configuration windows it references don't exist. I've clicked all around in the GUI and cannot find where to create a CSR or configure the CA/CRL. I cannot find any references to certs in the User Guide. Arrgh! Please help!
  21. You need a flux capacitor!
  22. Thanks. I wasn't aware that tech support was available to assist with basic training in programming with the device. I've now read through a lot of the docs, tutorials, and posts. I'm sure I'll have many more programs I will need assistance with, but I think I have the basics down now. Usually I appreciate the asynchronous, offline support that a forum provides. Also, you'll often get more than one response with different approaches which I find more valuable than a single answer. You'll even get feedback from others on the advice provided by another to better understand the pros/cons. I think there needs to be an updated "tips and tricks" for the current software that has just the most basic stuff to get started. The official doc is too light. Some of the Wiki articles are too old. Some of the stickies are too dense and too old. I'm thinking things like what I learned here on this thread that you can disable a program so it doesn't trigger yet it can still be called. Very useful! That would've saved me an hour the day before noodling through a problem had I known that. Or that EVERY device must be in a scene for the ISY to really be "managed". Explanation of Insteon devices, communications, link tables, and how ISY participates in that (great sticky for that once I found it). That combined with real world examples for all the usual stuff most users will need. 3-way scenes (that one is in user guide), making Off scenes, using motion detectors with a time to turn off lights, use of KPL scene buttons especially with fans, etc) That would make the initial use and config for new users quick and easy and they would learn the basic programming options by doing as well as have a reference source when making their own. I realize documentation is the most unfun part and there never seems to be enough time. However, if tech support is available to take calls to provide 1:1 training on the basic concepts then they could instead invest some of that time to create enhanced documentation that would result in fewer calls. Even if one person spent 2 hours a week within a month or two the documentation would be greatly advanced. Using tech support itself as a source, they could use call statistics to decide what items to most include based on how often that problem comes up. And of course investing small chunks of time on a regular basis would provide updates for the docs along with updates for the software. I realize you're well aware of all these things already. Just a reminder and a "vote" from me to push my agenda. Your direct participation in the forum has been extremely valuable and appreciated.
  23. Thanks to you both for the suggestions. I can work with that. I figured it should be simple but didn't get around to the idea of nested programs as I was brainstorming. I'm really struggling with programming in the ISY due to the non-linearity of programs that are constantly evaluated and triggered anytime one of the IF conditions changes. It's a different way of looking code execution. I'm used to scripts and code where everything is linear and the only way to run the same code again is via looping, gotos, calling subroutines, etc.
  24. I didn't realize I could disable a program but still call it from another program. Very useful to know. Thanks for the unsolicited tip!
  25. Greetings. I'm relatively new to ISY and HA in general. I have an ISY setup with about 50 Insteon devices and have several scenes setup, a few programs for control, etc. Now I'm working on IR integration with my universal remote. I have the IR integration working where I can press a button on the remote and the ISY recognizes it. I'd like this particular button to toggle on/of a Lamplinc. I do not want to have one button for on and another for off. I could use a long and short press if I must but would prefer simple toggle. I struggle with implementing conditional logic in ISY due to the IF conditions always being evaluated when any of the statements are affected by a change. This pseudo-code represents the first try: If IR_01 is PRESSED And LampLinc is OFF Then Set LampLinc On Else Set LampLinc OFF As you probably already know this didn't work. When it's off, the command to turn it on is sent but as soon as this happens the logic now changes and is then turned off by the Else statement after revaluation because the light is now on. I realized I could easily add an Integer Variable to the mix to track the state between on and off if that was the only thing happening. However, that's not a viable solution since there are many other scenes and programs that will turn the LampLinc on/off. Therefore, the use of variable would be messy and complex to manage it would have to be updated all. Your help and suggestions are appreciated.
