I figured it out, I was running 5.0.2 and Java would not let the admin console run no matter what I did, so saw on another post about using a lower version so realized I've been running 5.0.2 firmware but with the 4.4.6 admin console. Just downgraded back to 4.4.6 problem solved.

Hi everyone, I have ISY994 with Z-Wave and a Schalge Z-Wave deadbolt on the front door. I have a DSC alarm with the EnvsiLink or whatever it is to give it networking, and lastly a Raspberry Pi 2 running DSCLink to interface the DSC with the ISY. I'd like to have it so that when we leave the house and press the Schlage button to lock the door, that it also arms the alarm in away mode. Then when we enter the user code 1 on the door to reenter, have it disarm the alarm. For anyone unfamiliar, DSCLink works by updating variables on the ISY, so you have a variable for almost every alarm option that's updated with a 1 or 0, like Armed_Away, Exit_Delay, Zone1, etc. Then using the Network module on the ISY and the DSCLink Relay you can arm the alarm, disarm it and so on. Phew. The program I tried first was: If Control 'Front Door' is switched unlocked by keypad Resource 'Disarm Alarm' Second: If Control 'Front Door' is switched Locked by keypad Resource 'Arm Alarm' This doesn't seem to work consistently. The first try worked, but then locking or unlocking from MobiLinc would trigger it as well, when I thought "switched unlocked by keypad" meant only from outside on the keypad, not a mobile app. It worked a few more times and then got out of sync, even manually unlocking the door was turning off the alarm. Both resources work when tested, just wondering if there's a better way to do this. Thanks! *Quick edit, I'm wondering if the lock is messing up as I just noticed in the ISY it shows it as Unlocked, but when I last used it months ago I remember it would show if it was manually unlocked or a user code etc, so seems like it's missing info.

I saw that, I think total blackout is too much (as that's what I do right now with electrical tape haha). I don't mind a bit of light it's just ones like the blue LEDs on a TV or whatever that light up the whole room that drive me crazy!
-
Was just browsing reading random threads, had never heard of LightDims, just bought them on Amazon this is awesome! I HATE LED lights so much to the point that people hate traveling with me because I go around the room at night putting books and stuff over everything. I like it pitch black at night and can't stand when you have those blue LEDs, even one of them that light up the room. Looking forward to this!!!

Thanks that I know, I meant I'm glad the issue is that and not that the Fanlinc was wired wrong. If I had to take the fan down I'd prob just leave it as is. It's working now, thanks!
-
Thank you! That's what I was hoping it was. If I had to take the fan down again I think it would be safe to say I'd be cutting my losses haha.

Hi everyone, I bought a new fan in my guest room so bought my first Fanlinc. It was pretty easy to install, followed the directions exactly, and am pretty confident it was done right. Was a bit hard fitting the big box in but made it work. I then installed a KPL on the wall to control the light and the fan speeds. I'm having an issue though in that if the KPL is turned off, it cuts the load so the Fanlinc won't work. So for example, if it's off, I press On on the KPL. It clicks like it's on, but nothing happens for about 2 seconds, then the Fan light turns on. If I press High, Med, Low etc those control the fan as expected as I made scenes in the ISY for them all. If I press off though, the fan stops as does the light, however it cuts the load. So if I wanted to turn the fan on from my phone, or press like Fan High on the KPL, nothing happens. I have to press on first, wait a second and then I can use the other KPL buttons to control the fan. That seems to be expected behaviour since a switch stops power from going to the light, therefore you can't control the fan etc. Am I supposed to not wire the KPL into the load and instead wire the load permanently on and then use the KPL on/off as a scene to turn the Fan light on and off? I followed this http://support.insteon.com/customer/portal/articles/1841919-isy-configuring-keypadlinc-with-fanlincbut it didn't really say anything about what's happening. Thanks!

Perfect thanks, they are a pull chain type and they fit through a small hole in the bottom glass piece that screws on. So just thinking I can probably tie a knot in them before fishing it through the hole, so if someone does pull on it the knot will prevent it from actually pulling down.

Hi everyone, I just put a new fan in our guest bedroom which was a nice one has all the wires shown needed for fanlinc etc so was thinking of picking one up now as I have a spare KPL wihch would be handy to control it. Was just wondering though, what happens with the pull chain which typically is used to turn the fan on, medium, low, off etc? If the KPL is used to put it on medium for example, can someone then go and pull the chain and turn it off, and is the ISY able to know it's now off and update the KPL accordingly? Or should I be removing the pull chains so people can't do that? They are just really nice looking ones and I'd have to almost disable them vs remove them as they would look weird missing. Just curious not a huge deal, thanks!
-
Great thanks. Again it's not a huge issue, I might not keep it there and change it to a sensor for my DSC alarm, I'm just still not sure how to make that all work because the garage isn't attached to the house, so would probably need a keyfob or something to disarm the alarm when opening the car door driving in, which I can see us forgetting to do all the time since it's hard to forget when entering an entry door and hearing the alarm BEEEEEEEEP reminding you. So have mostly left it for now. Thanks for your help!

Great thanks, I'll try to move the PLM again as it's really picky on where it is to make the garage work even on the same phase. I always had it in the living room but made changes and then my Z-Wave switch in the 3rd floor bedroom wouldn't work because I thought it was too far, so moved the ISY and PLM up a floor but was actually a dead battery in the motion sensor. Just never put it back since it seemed to work fine there so I'll try sticking it back where it was just in case. Should I disable the control portion of the IOLinc in the ISY? Or would that cause problems, as I only use it for status.

Oh I wasn't concerned the door was actually opened once I saw the logs, just when I got the notification since the door could be opened from the outside using the keypad, or if someone jumped the fence into the back yard and went in through the side door since it's not usually locked since our garage is completely empty like nothing of value in there at all. I turned on Level 3 logging and then queried the sensor, this is what came back (I didn't get a garage door open notice this time, it only did that when I query all on the ISY) Sun 06/14/2015 03:56:47 PM : [iNST-TX-I1 ] 02 62 2F 8D 28 0F 19 01 Sun 06/14/2015 03:56:47 PM : [iNST-ACK ] 02 62 2F.8D.28 0F 19 01 06 LTSREQ (01) Sun 06/14/2015 03:56:48 PM : [iNST-SRX ] 02 50 2F.8D.28 2C.08.F8 27 00 01 (01) Sun 06/14/2015 03:56:48 PM : [std-Direct Ack] 2F.8D.28-->ISY/PLM Group=0, Max Hops=3, Hops Left=1 Sun 06/14/2015 03:56:48 PM : [D2D EVENT ] Event [2F 8D 28 1] [sT] [255] uom=0 prec=-1 Sun 06/14/2015 03:56:48 PM : [ 2F 8D 28 1] ST 255 Sun 06/14/2015 03:56:48 PM : [D2D-CMP 0066] STS [2F 8D 28 1] ST op=1 Event(val=255 uom=0 prec=-1) is Condition(val=0 uom=0 prec=-1) --> false Sun 06/14/2015 03:56:48 PM : [D2D-CMP 0027] STS [2F 8D 28 1] ST op=1 Event(val=255 uom=0 prec=-1) is Condition(val=0 uom=0 prec=-1) --> false Sun 06/14/2015 03:56:48 PM : [D2D-CMP 001F] STS [2F 8D 28 1] ST op=1 Event(val=255 uom=0 prec=-1) is Condition(val=0 uom=0 prec=-1) --> false Sun 06/14/2015 03:56:48 PM : [D2D-CMP 0017] STS [2F 8D 28 1] ST op=1 Event(val=255 uom=0 prec=-1) is Condition(val=0 uom=0 prec=-1) --> false Sun 06/14/2015 03:56:48 PM : [D2D-CMP 0010] STS [2F 8D 28 1] ST op=1 Event(val=255 uom=0 prec=-1) is Condition(val=0 uom=0 prec=-1) --> false Sun 06/14/2015 03:56:48 PM : [iNST-TX-I1 ] 02 62 2F 8D 28 0F 19 00 Sun 06/14/2015 03:56:48 PM : [iNST-ACK ] 02 62 2F.8D.28 0F 19 00 06 LTSREQ (LIGHT) Sun 06/14/2015 03:56:48 PM : [iNST-SRX ] 02 50 2F.8D.28 2C.08.F8 23 00 01 (01) Sun 06/14/2015 03:56:48 PM : [std-Direct Ack] 2F.8D.28-->ISY/PLM Group=0, Max Hops=3, Hops Left=0 Sun 06/14/2015 03:56:48 PM : [D2D EVENT ] Event [2F 8D 28 2] [sT] [255] uom=0 prec=-1 Sun 06/14/2015 03:56:48 PM : [ 2F 8D 28 2] ST 255 Sun 06/14/2015 03:56:49 PM : [iNST-SRX ] 02 50 2F.8D.28 2C.08.F8 27 00 00 (00) Sun 06/14/2015 03:56:49 PM : [std-Direct Ack] 2F.8D.28-->ISY/PLM Group=0, Max Hops=3, Hops Left=1

Oh I feel much better now lol I just did the full manual query and sure enough just got the notification saying the door is open. I'm not sure the config exactly, it's just the Insteon Garage door kit which I always called GarageLinc but I think it's just an IOLinc? Just plugs into the wall and then has 2 wires that should connect to the door opener but I've removed them. In the system I just have Garage Door Control, and Garage Door Status. Garage Door Status shows On when the door is closed, but right now says Off after that query. Querying it manually still says Off. It's not really a huge deal as I was planning on removing this here anyway and replacing it with just a sensor for my DSC alarm so that the garage is armed as well, but it's detached from my house so wasn't really sure how to make that work with an alarm, but the good thing at least is that it seems the door definitely didn't open, phew.

I'm not at home and I just woke up to a pushover notification on my phone from 5:47am it says Garage Door Open even though no one is home. When I check the ISY log though it seems weird almost like it restarted or something at the exact same time. I have a program that turns the garage light and backyard light on if the garage door opens and I see those statuses changing to on, just wondering if it looks like the door actually did open or not from this log. It shows system restart at the same time so seems like a weird coincidence? Just to add it's a Garage IOLinc in the garage, but I do not have the wires connected to actually allow it to control the garage as I don't trust it, it's just to provide status so not sure if that might have something to do with it as I don't have the garage control portion of the device disabled or anything in the ISY. I still think the main issue is that the technology is super easy, but it's too hard to program for a novice user that isn't interested in learning the whole system. You should be able to log into a HA controller, and pick a device and then have a basic wizard like what do you want to do? Create a lamp timer, create a motion light, create a virtual 3 or more way switch, create a notification, etc. Or let me click a KPL and show an image of it, clicking each button and picking what happens when I press that button. To the above posts, I don't care about a fancy cell phone app, but how else should I put the house in Home vs Away mode to do different things, or control the temperature when I'm not home? I can't even make a virtual device on the ISY that says Home vs Away, so instead you have to use variables and then when changing the house status on most apps, go into the program section, edit it and change variable to 1 for Home 2 for Away etc. It's clunky and not elegant which is why I got the DSC alarm instead so that it is what controls the house status since it's more obvious. I agree though that the HA works best when it helps automate basic tasks, like turning the lights on in the closet when you open the door as mentioned, things where if it didn't work for some reason it's not a huge deal as you can always turn it on yourself. Where I just refuse to use it now is on more critical things, like "If I press Goodnight on a KPL, turn off the lights downstairs and lock all the doors." Like there's no way I'm trusting my doors being locked to a program that I wrote myself.

I actually hardcore regret it to the point that it was causing big time stress and anxiety for me, because a year later I have all these components but still barely use them because nothing feels polished. MobiLinc is awful in my opinion and no where near as good as some of the apps like ImperiHome for Vera. I use a dynamic DNS provider now and whenever I set the remote ISY address to house.dynamicdnsip.com (made up example), it just changes it to the numerical IP when you save which is useless as soon as the IP changes. My main issue is that I feel I just can't trust the system, maybe it's because I work in IT so I'm dealing with redundancy all the time and have no interest in buying multiple ISYs and UPS, but there's always those random times where I get up in the morning to see the living room lamp is still on and didn't turn off for some reason as it should have (this is maybe once a month so nothing major) but it's to the point that it gets super annoying. I just can't enjoy it as much as I should because I think there's too much maintenance with it. There's lots of great benefits, like if I have the kitchen door unlocked, then also keep the garage door unlocked, and if I lock the kitchen lock the garage. However there's always those random times where it just doesn't work for some unknown reason, giving me no trust in it and causing me to still always manually check things. My main issue though is there's far too many technologies out there with none really perfect. I all but stopped buying devices until things get more mature as who knows where HomeKit will go, as I'm sure Apple will do HA far better than anyone else has. To me it's just a novelty, it was cool to turn the lights on and off remotely, but that only lasted for a couple weeks until I realized I have no need to remotely control devices. Where I did enjoy it was in things like the bathroom, walk in motion turns the lights on, close the door the fan comes on, leave and the fan stays on for 20 minuets then turns off. Very cool, until you add it all up and realize that door sensor, motion sensor, and 2 switches was about $200, when it's not hard to just turn the light on with the switch. Even when I go on vacation I unplug the Garage IO Linc in the garage as I don't trust it that it won't just randomly open the garage. When I was in Vegas a month ago I got an alert from the ISY saying leak detected in the laundry room, so had my neighbour run over in a panic only to find absolutely nothing wrong, not even dampness. Was excited thinking I'd finally get the value for my money in stopping a leak as it happened but nothing, just a false alarm. What I've done instead is sold many components and just use the system for non critical things like lamp timers and integrated with my DSC alarm. That way if I arm it in away mode I know 100% that no one is home (where as using KPLs and ISY was useless as no one would remember set the house in away or home mode when leaving since there's no door chime to alert you, and flashing the lights isn't elegant, plus there's no security, someone breaking in can just press "Home" on the KPL). So now other things happen if the house is in away mode, like turning the porch light on at sunset, keeping lamp timers on a few hours longer than if we were home, or turning down the thermostat temperature, things like that where if they malfunction it's no issue. I have no interest in things that others do like using motion sensors to detect if people are home, or iPhone proximity etc, I need more control over things. Having said all that I love the ISY, it's def one of the best platforms out there. Indigo I think is amazing, I just hate that it needs to run on a dedicated Mac, otherwise with all its plugins and graphical interface plus the ability to save device state as a variable (as well as words in variables not just numbers) I think it's better. From a trust standpoint though the ISY is the best there I think. The other reason I sold a bunch of it was because the family hated it, and guests weren't overly comfortable, always asking if the motion sensor in the bathroom is a camera watching them, or being concerned that the lights will all go out on them while they are in the shower or things like that. For me I find it all works best and is most enjoyable where it provides a convenience like turning a light on, but where you can always manually do it as well. When it comes to locking my doors, keeping the garage closed, alerting me to motion when I'm away, things like that, I won't use it anymore as I just don't trust it all.

That fixed it! And thanks didn't even think of that. It's not critical it comes on at that time, more just around sunset as long as it looks random since it stays on all night.

Oh okay but only if it loses power while they are moving? That's fine then, I just didn't want the power to go out and then come back on and the blinds open or something, since I guess it's harder to tell what state they are in from the ISY open or closed etc. Just comparing options but that could be one way to go, otherwise probably more worth it to do the Somfy bridge if it supports multiple windows once the ISY supports multi channel z-wave.

It looks right, I think its the setting on the bulb, the on level is set to 0 and the ramp rate at 9 minutes for some weird reason. Changing it but getting one of those endless ISY progress bars, so will wait a bit and try and see but that's probably what it was.

I wrote this program the other night and just realized it's never worked. If I do "Run then" it does, but basically wanted it to be that the light comes on at sunset +/- 30 minutes, so did: If Time is Sunset Then Wait 30 minutes (Random) Set 'All Devices / Front Porch Light' On Is that not the proper way to use the random function? Thanks!

Oh great that sounds helpful. When you say the power gets cut it reverses, does that cause issues if the power ever goes out and then comes back on, do the blinds start to move?

Thanks I'll check to see the options, most these sites are US only so with the crappy exchange right now and the chance of getting hit with customs (plus some of these sites are brutal in that the shipping to Canada is completely unrealistic like $50 or something for a single small item, looking at you smarthome.com lol) so makes it a pain. I had looked at that add a motor thing, as I could easily make mine a loop, would just need to get more string and just tie it to the ends of both of these, but I wasn't sure how that add a motor worked with Insteon?

Great thanks I'll check mine. I was looking at Somfy but wasn't sure where to buy them as their site was like saying you need professional installation which I can imagine the cost of, since I don't really need it that badly. Sun doesn't come in directly, just thought be nice at night to auto close them and what not. I don't think the ISY does multi channel from what I've seen on Z-Wave but hopefully in version 5. I have a Vera as well I could use as a gateway if not. Will measure tomorrow when I'm home, thanks! Would this not work with the Somfy motor you mentioned? https://www.aartech.ca/318276i-insteon-somfy-control-kit.html That Z-Wave one is expensive! Not sure how bad I want to control the blinds lol.

Oops should say option to automate in the subject. To clarify by open I don't mean pulled open to the top, I mean tilted so the slats are horizontal, or basically as open as they can be while still covering the whole window. The photos below give an idea, not the best since was bright but it's just 2 strings on the left (the one to pull it completely open is on the right). So can easily extend the strings or even make them into a loop if necessary, just wondering if there's anything that would go on the floor or something to control them. The middle photo is what I mean by open. The first and last shows them in both closed positions.

Hi everyone, In my living room we have a large front window with horizontal blinds in them made of wood or the faux wood like 2" slats. To tilt them up or down to close them and open them, there's 2 strings hanging on the left side with plastic balls on the bottom, so pretty common, pull one down and the other raises with the slats closing one direction, then pull the other cord down and the slats close the other way. I'm just wondering the easiest option to be able to control them from my ISY994 with Z-Wave in terms of just having them move from closed to open, so very little movement so that it can be on a timer and what not, if that's even possible? I don't need manual control as I'd most likely put the blinds control into a KPL right beside them, just wondering if there's any easy(ish) way to accomplish this or if most people just get new blinds with this capability built in?
