    Bathroom Fan

I bought a Broan fan. So just for the hell of it I checked their website. They actually have it in their faq but isn't definitive. It reads "Can all exhaust fans be put on a variable speed control switch?" And they answer "This depends on the product model, as some motors are not designed for use with speed controls, but most can." So that seems promising. Maybe I'll shoot them an email with my model number and see what they say. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    Bathroom Fan

Hi everyone, Simple question, I'm installing a bathroom fan in my 1860's house that never had one before. I plan on using a insteon wireless thermostat to act as a humidistat to turn the fan on and off automatically. Obviously I will also require a manual switch for no humidity fan use. My question is, I have an extra fanlinc module. Has anyone used a fan linc module to control a bathroom fan? My fan doesn't have a light so I will have to cap the light feed but that's no big deal. My thoughts is I can add logic to the ISY to ramp up the fan as humidity climbs. Starting on low speed for low humidity and then go full speed when humidity peaks. Does anyone see an issue with running a bathroom fan on varying speeds? After all the fanlinc is designed to run a fan.

I was leaning more towards the switch because it's a poe switch and it drives 10 IP cameras that would be drawing its peak at night to power the night vision LEDs. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    Insteon Range

I may just have to live with it or like I said just slowly start rotating filterlincs until I find the culprit. I do have some items I suspect such as my corporate network switch that draws a large amount of power and my ups, so I will start with those. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    Insteon Range

I tried them probably a dozen times today with no changes and so far they have worked flawlessly. The only time I have noticed it is in the morning and I'm on my way to the dog houses to put my dogs out and then leave for work. I end up having to walk to the other side of the dog house to manually trigger the dimmerlinc. When I have gotten home the isy has already turned it off at sunrise and it is working fine. It doesn't do it consistently enough to be ready for it. I do on a regular basis test it when I have time and it never fails when I have time to diagnose it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I'll just get a couple of filterlincs and move them around until my problem is solved. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    Insteon Range

Like I said it isn't a problem 100% of the time. I can't really keep my house dark to diagnose. It may only do it one morning a week. Stuff like my computer can't be unpowered for extended period of time. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

So if I add a dual band item mid way, it should immediately start repeating the signal with no need to relink. I didn't know if the isy sent instructions based on a roadmap. Going from one device to the other. That answers my question. I will order some filterlincs next week. It isn't feasible to add devices midway since it is a straight stretch underground. The network is strong within the house since I have a lot of devices in a concentrated area. I just got to get rid of what holding back the signal outside. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    Insteon Range

I could but then I would have to unearth the conduit in the middle of my back yard and have a box above ground, which isn't ideal. It works 75% of the time but it seems that 25% it doesn't work it doesn't matter how many times you try it, it just doesn't work. I don't know what has changed from when it's working to when it's not. It always seems to quit too when you don't have time to look into it like when I'm leaving for work. I may try getting some filterlincs I do have some extra money coming next week. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    Insteon Range

I guess I'll buy some filter lincs. I just get hesitant because they are the only two things that have issues and filter lincs can start to get pricey. I guess I don't have much choice of I want them to work. One question I have. Does insteon automatically find new paths. Ex. If I add a dual band item that would make communication for a certain device easier, would it automatically pick this path or would it have to be re-linked? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    Insteon Range

Phase coupling has been confirmed. I have 50 dual band devices and at least one on every breaker of my panel, except for the bigger ones, stove, drier etc. I don't even know where to begin trying to eliminate signal suckers. I have a computer on a ups on the opposite side of the house, home theatre, everywhere I look there is a transformer since just about everything uses them now. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    Insteon Range

From what I read, and I could be wrong. I thought the range extenders were basically a lamplinc without the functionality just to give a system that doesn't have dual band devices the RF capability. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk I have the PLM on the same run of wire going out to the dog house, I thought by doing that it would give the strongest signal on the line. Insteon Range

I am in desperate need of increasing the range of my system. I have a roughly 50 item insteon network in my small home and all works great! My one issue is away from my house in one corner of my property about 100 feet away I have a dog house with two lights on it controlled with a dimmerlinc. I also have in another corner a post that has spot light controlled by a inline relay inline link that is about 100 feet away from anything else as well. My issue is the 100 foot distance must be right on the limit of the power line range and is definitely out of range of any of my dual band items wireless. Is there anything I can install to increase the range to get these two items to work reliably. Right now they are hit or miss. %75 of the time they will probably work and the other %25 they don't do anything. The power going out to these two items is 100 feet of straight buried wire so I can't splice into it anywhere. Inside the house right before the one wire leaves the house to run out to the dog house I have an outlet spliced in and my PLM is plugged into it, so as far as I'm concerned I think there is nothing more I can do for the dog house. I was just wondering if they sell any kind of range extender, even if it is only wireless maybe I could plug it in on the top floor of my house to try and reach these two items with wireless? Any help you guys can give would be great! Cory
  18. One issue I had with DDNS is with my internet service provider. At times mobilinc isn't smart enough to realize it is on its local network and it still tries to use the DDNS address. With my ISP it doesn't allow external forwarding from inside its local network. I talked with the developer of mobilinc and he said this was a common issue and the cloud is the easiest repair. I paid for the cloud service and never looked back. It works flawlessly and has never failed me. I haven't played with VPN to see if it functions better. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  19. I believe the mistake you are making is assuming the options for the relay and the sensor are separate when infact they are the same dialog. When you click options under the relay it is the same as clicking options under the sensor. That momentary time is strictly for the relay regardless of which heading you select the option button, either relay or sensor. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  20. Exactly. By default it is 2 seconds so on my program I have the wait set for 3 seconds. It updates with the proper status every time. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  21. I ran into the same problem when I installed my I/O link today. I created a simple program to fix the relay glitch. Just create a program as follows... "if garage door relay is on then wait 1 second longer then the momentary time set garage relay query. Works great Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  22. One down side for me is the mini remotes can't be queried. The one issue I have with this is I have a couple of programs that rely on inputs from the mini remotes, when there is a power failure the isy can't query a battery powered device and get the status. It's a minor inconvenience but when the power goes out my bedroom lights don't come back on when the power comes back. I also have a program that runs when one of the buttons is in the "on" state and the isy looses that status during a power failure. The kpl's resume their state when the power is reinstated. 23. All of my LEDs work well with regular power so I'm not too concerned. The minor flicker with insteon traffic isn't huge either because we have a small house and there isn't that much traffic. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  24. They are all LED's and I think that may be part of the problem as well. Because with the LED's even on good power they flicker a little with insteon traffic.
  25. with mine its so quick it's impossible to tell if they turn right off. But I mainly notice it on the ramp up and down. It isn't a smooth ramp. as it's ramping it flickers up and down as its ramping. All of my ramp rates are the 2 second ramp rate so it's pretty easy to see it flicker during the ramp.
