Sorry Gary, I had sent my reply in the body of Michels response. Here is what I did. Removed the motion sensor from ISY, restored the bathroom switches along with the utility room switch. Readded the motion sensor to ISY. So far so good. When I manually trigger the motion sensorthe bathroom lights don't turn on/off. Thanks!

insteon motion sensor and status of what it controls
Steve Sullivan replied to someguy's topic in ISY994
Michel, I have two of 7 or 8 motion sensors that only are able to be programmed in i1 mode. If I try auto I get request failed. i1 allows it to be programmed. I use i1 to program then switch to i2. Is this ok or is another RMA in order fr defective devices?! -

I have a Motion Sensor I use to trigger events for my basement utility room. Somehow this sensor is now also triggering lights in my 1st floor bathroom. There is no scene with these devices together. Nor is there a program that would trigger this event. I removed the sensor, factory reset and restored. I have also factory reset the Bath Light Switchinc relay which works until I restore the device wth ISY. If I restore a device, ISY relinks these devices. So how do I get the ISY to forget these links?

I was dong a manual query while watching the event viewer and noticed some unknown devices. I was trying to test out a program and it was unable to save, on the summary page I got a not loaded not enough memory statement in yellow. I realize it was because of the unnecessary Add And (..) I have at the top. If I remove it I am able to save the program. Just wondering why this happens so I have a better understanding. DOESN'T LOAD If ( From Sunset To Sunrise (next day) Or Module 'Climate' Light < 30 ) And ( Status 'Motion Front-Sensor' is On Or Status 'Motion Front 2-Sensor' is On ) Then Stop program 'Front Motion Off' Run Program 'Front Porch On' (Then Path) Else - No Actions - (To add one, press 'Action') LOADS OK If From Sunset To Sunrise (next day) Or Module 'Climate' Light < 30 And ( Status 'Motion Front-Sensor' is On Or Status 'Motion Front 2-Sensor' is On ) Then Stop program 'Front Motion Off' Run Program 'Front Porch On' (Then Path) Else - No Actions - (To add one, press 'Action')

I suppose you can make a program for each light you want to adjust that checks it's status. If light A is >XX% Then use that status program either in the folder to allow it to run, or as part of the fade program's IF.

I'm not sure if there is anything on the forum for that router exactly but the manual for the router should be all you need. From here, the manul for the router, ftp://ftp.linksys.com/pdf/wrt54g_ug.pdf I think page 28 starts a description for DDNS DDNS - Allows you to enable the Dynamic Domain Name System (DDNS) feature, so a fixed domain name can be assigned to a dynamic Internet IP address. This is where you will want to add your dyndns info. If it is done on the PC and the PC is off then you may not have the accurate IP that your router is getting. From there you'll want to look at page 56 for the port forwarding section. Here you'll want to make up a rule for HTTPS port 443 access to ISY's lan address. 443 is the default secure access port, you can and probably should change this to be more secure. To start I'd try and get it to work with 443. Basically the DYNDNS account allows you to find out where your router is on the internet, ie, what IP your provider is giving you. Once you connect to your router (IP), your router needs to direct the traffic on your LAN to your ISY, this should be done on a secure port.
-
Hi, I'm not familiar with setting up that router but the DYNDNS information should be setup in the router. You mentioned you have the updater setup on the computer. If I am correct this would give access to the computer not really the router. The goal is to have DYNDNS allow you to find your router from the internet, then use port forwarding rules , maybe port 443, setup in the router to get access to the ISY. There are a few posts for setting up remote access on the forum. Not sure if you have checked them out but they could be useful.

I have a 7 day venstar with insteon adapter on order. I wanted to get some clarification if possible. From what I have read you cannot use ISY programs with this unit when it is in program mode. I guess the set points can't be adjusted. I also understand you cannot adjust humidity set ponts at all via ISY programs because of the adapter's API limitation. This seems to be done in the thermostat setup. I'm wondering if I can use the built in Humidity control (if I order the optional module) and at the same time have the unit in manual mode to allow heat/cool setpoints via ISY prgrams. Another thing, I got the 7 day because in the event of an ISY failure I still want to have the thermostat programs run. There shouldn't be any reason I can't switch back and forth manually correct? If anyone has feedback on this I'd appreciate it.

Are you sure you didn't choose the ISY-26 version? I've done that before and had the same error. -
Release 2.6.13 beta is now available
Steve Sullivan replied to Michel Kohanim's topic in Previous Releases
I've been having intermittent issues trying to add, restore, adjust devices. Seems like my admin console loses some connection to ISY. I've had to close the console and reopen. To clear it up temporarily. If you don't have the advanced options it seems like the update didn't go too well. I'd try clearing the Java Cache, close then reopen the browser. If that doesnt work I'd try and update 2.6.13 again and see if you get the advanced options. -
I actually usually have to input my user name and password on the iphone. I was just playing around though and found even after clearing cookies, cache, and history I didn't have to input user name and password. After a reboot I did. It seems the files aren't cleared till a reboot.

Hi Wayne, I apologize if I came off as a bit rash. I was writing on my iphone and to be honest was too tired to edit last night... Maybe Michel or another member could explain further but here are my thoughts. All upgrades are provided at no charge, these are firmware upgrades and enhancements, Beta is released very frequently but it is beta so expect the possibility of bugs if you choose to use it. If your not into that just use the last stable firmware version, 2.6.11 seems pretty good. There are optional modules that UDI charges for but these go above and beyond insteon. For the average ISY user I don't think there is much of a need for them. As far as products from simplehomenet, UDI hasn't been charging for support of these and they are not dependent on modules to work. There are some issues with support for some of their devices though. Technical reasons above and beyond my understanding. There are threads devoted to these products on the forum. I'd check them out and see if any devices you may be interested in would have issues. I've only been active on here for a few weeks and have only had my Insteon products and ISY99 for a few weeks. I can say there is a small learning curve but the effort is well worth it. The ISY opens up all sorts of possibilities for HA. I'm truly impressed with the product, the forums are excellent, and UDI's support is phenomenal. Hope that helps a bit, good luck Steve

If you are asking of udi charges for insteon compatibility I'm fairly certain the answer is no. If you are suggesting that udi does charge for this then well ... I'm really curious where you got this impression. As far as I know there are three modules at the moment that are charged for and each of them have nothing to do with being a smathome device. Seems to me UDI works tirelessly to support insteon devices without charging anything. Maybe you could explain your position more clearly for clarification? For example what modules are you speaking of?? The weather bug module simply brings weather data into the isy system in order to take advantage of weather data in programs. The breultech monitors energy usage and the module brings the ability to program the isy for energy related needs. The last module has to do with utility providers and gives the ability to program based on peak and off peak electrical usage. Am I missing something here? It seems to me that UDI doesn't charge for insteon compatibility. It's included in the hardware price.rh

Much better. Thank you!

I was just playing with this myself. I think it's on the back burner for development. This probably isn't all that helpful but I figured out today you can drop your devices into the rooms you create. From there you can click on the item and it will bring up the control buttons. It isn't pretty and I couldn't find much for documents on it. [/img]

Michel, Thanks for the response. I do have pop enabled, also IMAP, forgot to mention that in the list, I did try to reset pop access on the gmail account.

Rob9 Just wanted to thank you for posting this. I used your code in one of my bathrooms on a switchlinc relay as well as two switchlinc dimmers. The dimmer code required a slight adjustment. This contribution was awesome and for someone like me who doesn't understand the flags yet it was very helpful. Thanks Again Steve

I too am having issues getting notifications to work. I have a ISY99pro with the latest beta, Verizon Router. I have the router set to give the ISY a static address which is working fine. I've telnet into the ISY and set the Netmask and DNS to my router. Im able to access and telnet to the ISY remotely (WAN) no problem. I'm tring to use smtp.gmail.com, port 587, I have my username and password correct and the from field filled in with my email address. I also have a recipient. I've pinged smtp.gmail.com and tried the IP that was returned which was 66.249.91.109 I've tried ports 25, 465, and 587 I've tried the default settings. I have a certificate installed. I've tried to set the ISY on my network to DMZ just incase, once that failed I changed it back. I don't have any other firewalls that would affect local traffic from getting out. The current logs don't show any 5001 or 5XXXXX errors. At this point I'm kinda clueless. I've read through everything I could find on other posts. If anyone have a pointer I'd appreciate it!

Thanks Guys for the feedback. When set to send off commands my sensor waits about a minute then is shown off. I found this to work well as my programming before was flawed. I made a program to turn off the bathroom lights If - No Conditions - (To add one, press 'Schedule' or 'Condition') Then Set '1st Floor Bath Main' Off Set '1st Floor Bath Vanity' Off Else - No Actions - (To add one, press 'Action') I also made one to turn just the main light on. If - No Conditions - (To add one, press 'Schedule' or 'Condition') Then Set '1st Floor Bath Main' On Else - No Actions - (To add one, press 'Action') I then made one as the trigger for when motion is on, This runs the program to turn the light on and also stops the Motion off program I made. If Status 'Motion Bath-Sensor' is On Then Run Program '1st Bath Main Light On' (If) Stop program '1st Bath Motion Off' Else - No Actions - (To add one, press 'Action') Motion off program. If Status 'Motion Bath-Sensor' is Off Then Wait 2 minutes Run Program '1st Bath Lights Off' (If) Else - No Actions - (To add one, press 'Action') Basically when Motion is on the lights just turn on. Once the Sensor sends an off signal the next program waits 2 minutes then runs the lights off program. If the Motion is on again it just cycles until no motion then finally the lights turn off. I used this for my outside lights as well and a basement utility room and it seems to work very well. My problem before was I was setting the If as motion on and trying to turn off lights in the same program, they would never turn off after a minute because the sensor had a off state and therefore the program was false. I still need to figure out the timer programs for switchlincs like i've seen in other posts, I have my upstairs bathroom on a 15 minute timer and my wife isn't too thrilled when she's in the shower and it goes dark:)

Stay tuned, Moved the PLM and rebooted the ISY, Seems OK now. Wierd.

Hey all, Very new to ISY and Insteon so I'm sking for a bit of help. I'm having difficulty with a program. I have a utility light using a switchlinc relay along with a insteon motion sensor. The program is simple, if motion is on set utility light on wait 2 minutes turn off utility light This seems to work fine is I set the time to less than 63 seconds, if it's at 2 minutes the light never gets switched off. I removed the motion sensor, factory reset the motion sensor then added it back in. I also changed the motion sensor to send on only. This also happens in a bathroom where I have the same type of program. Not sure what I'm doing incorrectly. Thanks

Well I certainly appreciate your detailed response, thank you! These are all good points and I'm glad I asked because I had not considered the flow issues. As far as the system being designed... I really think it was poorly designed and not implemented well at all. For example I have two returns in my living room, these are connected together so there is a vent at the top and one at the bottom and share a single duct in the wall. I've noticed for quite a while they really don't pull any air at all. After investigating this last night I found something interesting. The duct in the wall is supposed to continue to the basement where through a channel using the joists the return continues to the main return trunk. At the section where the wall duct joins the joist duct the wall duct was not cut. This blocked any chance of flow. I made the modification and at least have a return in the living room now. Two of the three bedrooms are typically pretty cold in the winter no matter what I do to tweak the vents. Part of the reason is the path these ducts take going along the exterior sill and routed up exterior walls. The path is just very long. There isn't really any central trunk in the design. Most runs go to exterior walls. As an example there is a return for two of the bedrooms that are next to each other. The path is from the central return in the middle of the basment to a 6 or 7 inch 10 ft long duct that goes up the exterior wall to the second floor, through the floor joists, then up a central wall. Seems really inefficent to me. All the walls and the attic are well insulated. There aren't any ducts in the attic at all. My goals wouldn't be to zone all of the areas that are heated, just some of the more difficult ones, so I would think there shouldn't be a lot of restriction. Typically two of the three bedrooms on the 2nd floor are too hot in the summer and too cold in the winter. Bathrooms are fine by adjusting the registers. It's something I'll have to really think about. I appreciate the input though. Overall If I made changes to the system, I guess a independent zone controller is ideal, further than that the HA part could be to just adjust set points. I looked into a GeoThermal heatpump solution to replace the furnace I had to get something more efficent. Using the existing ducts and well the quote was almost 30K. Since I'm not taking that route! I'd like to cost effectively level out the temp variations, in a cool geeky way.

Hey all, I'm very new to this forum as well as ISY and insteon. In fact I'm in the research phase of automation for my house and have an ISY99 on order with a bunch of Insteon lighting products. I hate economy shipping! This forum seems awesome and I'm impressed with the responsiveness and helpfulness of all participants. I've been trying to figure out what it would take to eventually add different zones to my current heating system. I have forced hot air in a 2 story house plus a basement. There is a single thermostat in the 1st floor hall. The temperature variations between 1st and 2nd floor is pretty significant, worse off are temp variations on each of the 3 bedrooms. We also have a older inefficient fireplace and when it's cranking the upstairs gets freezing. As far as I see it now I could add dampers to create control for different zones. I'd like to cost effectively add thermostats or just temp sensors to different rooms in order to monitor temperatures and adjust the different dampers based on programs running on the ISY99. I see there are a few Venstar thermostats but didn't really see slaves for them. I also saw some RCS zone controllers but wasn't sure if you could interface them with the ISY99. I'm wondering if any of you have done a project like this and what type of hardware/programs you've used. I appreciate the feedback in advance. Thanks, Steve
