A magnetic switch designed for garage doors (weatherproof) connected to an I/O Linc may be more reliable.

Yes and yes. Insteon On/Off devices can dim dimmers. Insteon dimmers can only turn an On/Off device on or off. Thus, the response depends on the characteristics of the responder regardless of the controller.

No hardware nor software is required to support Range Extenders/Access Points. Range Extenders don't need support at all. These devices work simply by plugging them in. Range Extenders also have a Beacon test to ensure that the opposite legs of the split, single-phase electric supply are bridged.

Both the PLM and meter are suspect. Two years seems to be the lifespan of the PLM. It's certainly easier to replace than the meter

There is no way to disable the paddle from the wired load. But you can disconnect the load wire and install a Micro Module in the fixture and use a scheduled program that allows control only outside of the play hours. Or you try a program that turns on the light in response to an off signal, but there would be a short delay between off and on which could, in itself, be playful

The status of battery powered devices is not always available to the ISY. Three programs would work. Enable program If Control 'Mini Remote X' is switched On Then Enable Program 'door sensor' Else Disable program If Control 'Mini Remote X' is switched Off Then Disable Program 'door sensor' Else and the door sensor program.
-
If you use "and" then both the mini remote and open/close sensor would have to be turned on at the same instant. If you want either one or the other to be on, then use an "or."

k5map, I use a scene that includes the KPL buttons as responders and a program that turns the scene off. If Time is x:00:00AM Then Set 'LR / Devices / LR Thermostat Main' Mode Off Resource 'BR Sheer/Opaque Close' Set Scene 'BR / Scenes / BR Fireplace' Off Set Scene 'DR / Scenes / DR Front Off Button' Off Else - No Actions - (To add one, press 'Action The DR Front Off Button scene all includes the KPL buttons I want turned off
-
All buttons on a KPL have the same intensity, that is, you cannot adjust the brightness of only one particular button. It appears that the top left button is On and the others are Off. If the other buttons can toggle between On and Of and that button is always On, then it's set for non-toggle on.
-
If you already had linked devices and you did not select "Remove existing links," then the old links created numbered scenes. When you deleted the the devices they were removed form those scenes.

A difficulty with using "Heat Ctl" is that, if the desired temperature is at or above the setpoint, then no command is issued. This is the program I use: If Status 'LR / Devices / LR Thermostat Main' is Mode Heat And Status 'LR / Devices / LR Thermostat Main' is not Mode Off Then Set 'BR / Devices / LR HVAC Indicator' On Else Set 'BR / Devices / LR HVAC Indicator' Off
-
Most commonly, there are two levels of illumination, dim and bright. If that meets your needs, install two sets of lights. No dimming needed. Simpler control and installation. And you actually end up with three levels of brightness

Not all features of all devices are supported by the ISY, for example, setting the thermostat to ºC or adjusting the thermostat backlight. But, these are usually set just once, so, for most, it's not a problem
-
Insteon thermostats include a mode that sends an On whenever heat (or cool) is called for. Set the thermostat to call for heat at your desired temperature and create a program to send you a message when that occurs, as Xathros recommended.
-
Info only: Venstar thermostats can be set to a 1ºF deadband. Albe thermostats, albeit not Insteon compatible, have a 0.9ºF deadband. Gas furnaces, unlike gas engines do no use any extra gas to startup. And there are no moving parts, so cycling is not a problem. Compressors, OTOH, do use more energy on startup. Too, starting a compressor is stressful, so the duration between startups does matter. But, the nearly all programmable thermostats have an adjustable activation delay for the compressor.
-
Copy the program here. Right click > Copy to Clipboard.
-
The Insteon thermostat is constructed differently.
-
The Insteon thermostat is an unusual responder in that it can have completely unrelated responses to an On command and an Off command. For example, you can have On turn on heat and Off turn on Cool. Or on set the thermostat to Auto and Off turn on the fan. The only way to do that with the ISY is to use a program. For that reason, all of our thermostats are linked manually to RemoteLincs.

Do you have five scenes (i.e., light, high, medium, low, off)? Is each button both a controller and a responder for its respective scene? Are the fan speed button for the "other" speeds included with an On-level of off? Have you verified that the On-level for the both corresponding speed buttons are set to on? And especially, any questions about my questions?

toflaherty, if each 3-way switch has only black, red, and white, then you will have to remove the fixture to change the connections. Any white wire connected to a 3-way switch is NOT a neutral. Any white wire connected to a standard on/off switch is NOT a neutral
-
Caution! A white wire is not always a neutral wire. When a switch box has only two wires, black and white, the standard procedure is to make while line and black load. This is done to avoid having two white wires connected to the fixture. And, in a 3-way configuration, white can be line or a traveler. That's because a 3-way switch needs three wires (which is why it's called 3-way), none of which are neutral. Each 3-way switch has two travelers. The third connection is either line (at one end) or load (at the other end). But 3-wire Romex has only black, red, and white.

Somewhat vague. Specifics might help.
