I agree. Also the Nucleus, if I understand its capabilities, will act like a video intercom no matter where you are. Video intercom between L.A. And Cincinatti? No problem. At least that's how I understand it. Seems like it would be great for kids off at college or keeping watch on an elder, stuff like that. GT

I wonder what she means by Alexa AVS not currently supporting UD capability? GT

ISY Z-Wave Primary to SmartThings to Echo?
Guitartexan replied to Deane Johnson's topic in Amazon Echo
If I understand correctly, multi channel support refers to devices such as the Aeon Labs power strip. The device has several receptacles but only one power cord. As it stands, it is not possible to control individual receptacle outlets on the strip. With multi channel support one could control and program each individual receptacle outlet. Please, anyone, need free to step in and correct me if I have misled here. Best, GT -
It does make sense, rskirch, and thanks for the information.[emoji106] GT

Hey upstatemike. I too hope they do. I contacted the owner a few months ago and they said they were looking into it. I sincerely hope they got in touch with Michel. Their product could really take off if integrated properly with isy. I think it may be just another intercom if not. See my emails below. If not it can go into V2 which is an automatic software update. Thank you for the info. I'm very supportive because I think you have a great story behind a great product. Add to that the fact that you're "real" as opposed to all these plastic business people I see every day. I'm not sure about the UPnP being all you'd need, but it may be. At a glance the isy might seem to be an insteon hub, but it is much more. It is a stand alone home automation controller that can have Z-wave, zigbee, RF, can control over 1k devices, scenes, etc. With the release of update 5xx the isy can now operate with nodes. Here is a link to a review of the isy. http://thedocsworld.net/isy-994i-home-automation-at-its-best/ I understand you have lots on your plate Jonathan, but this device justifies you taking a closer look and maybe considering how Nucleus working in conjunction with isy could open up some amazing possibilities. Thanks for listening. Thank you for being so supportive! Looking at the Universal Devices website, it looks like the isy-994i is an Insteon hub. If so, we may already support it; we are integrated with Insteon's own hub via UPnP. Do you think that would cover the isy-994i as well? I just got word of your delay till April. No worries! Take as long as it takes to have a solid product without all the issues of a "Smart Things" or Wink. I'm writing this hoping you might contact Michel Kohanim from Universal Devices and allow integration of the isy-994i platforms of home automation. I own one of his units and I can tell you, it is the most powerful HA controller on the market. If your Nucleus has voice control and could have Zwave or some other way to integrate with the isy-994i, yours would be a very popular product indeed, more so than it is sure to already be. His email is: UDI Tech Support Michel Kohanim Universal Devices, Inc. support@universal-devices.com I hope you don't mind my making this suggestion. It is not that Nucleus isn't good. But perhaps there is a way it can be better. If nucleus could talk to isy-994i, that would be a game changer. We can already talk thru Amazon Echo with isy-994i, but Amazon will not work with Michel and we have to use a Hue hub emulator. It works but is half baked. I imagine Nucleus could be the "Mercedes" of Echos. Best regards and much success! I'm looking forward to April! L. Guitartexan LEED AP BC+D INFRARED SURVEYOR This email is * UNCLASSIFIED * GT

Has everyone seen this today? I just got an email...... "Echo now supports Insteon connected devices, including the Insteon Starter Kit, Dimmer Switch, and On/Off Switch—so now you have even more ways to control your lights, switches, and appliances at home without ever lifting a finger. Use Echo to switch on the lights from your bed or dim them from your couch to watch a movie. A full list of Echo compatible devices can be found here. Getting started with Insteon is easy. Just connect your devices to the Insteon Hub via the Insteon Hub App and name your devices in the Insteon Hub App. Next, link your Insteon account in the Alexa App. Then, say "Alexa, discover my devices." With a Dimmer Switch and On/Off Switch you can control lights and appliances like TVs and popcorn makers with Echo. Just ask: "Alexa, turn on the TV." "Alexa, turn popcorn on." "Alexa, dim the lights." Also new this week, your Alexa Shopping List is now easily accessible on Amazon.com. When you visit Amazon using your computer or tablet, you will see a link to your Alexa Shopping List on the homepage, and also in the Wish List menu, where you can easily find and purchase the exact items you want. You can also add, edit, delete, or mark items completed. If you're on your mobile device, just use the Alexa App to view your Shopping List and search Amazon for results." GT

Proper insteon device to control On/Off of shop vac and air compressor?
Guitartexan replied to JSP0511's topic in ISY994
You could use an Aeon Labs on/off micro switch control a high amp definite purpose contactor. Everything you need would cost around $50. Sent from my SM-T230NU using Tapatalk -
Today, Amazon announced an Alexa API set to let third-party developers easily build support for the system into their own apps. Alexa Voice Services would allow anyone to actually take Alexa and build it into their own hardware product, meaning Alexa is now officially unbundled from Echo GT

Hello everyone. My question has to do with combining lights. I have two exterior garage lights, one on either side of my garage. One light is operated by a single pole, on/off switch inside the garage. The second light is operated by a single pole, on/off switch located just inside the front door. I want to combine these two lights to come on/off together using z-wave micro switches. What do I need to buy and what would that schematic look like? I understand how to use and connect a single micro switch for a single load. Thanks for any help and really appreciate all the knowledge present here. GT Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

You are quite right Brian. They have sent me a 2413U when what I need is a 2413S. Thank you. I've ordered the correct PLM and sold this one on EBay. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

Hello again folks. I just returned home from deployment and I jumped right into getting my HA stuff hooked up. My X6 router is connected to the internet, the iSy is connected to the router.....now my question: the PLM seems to have a square USB type port but the iSy has an RJ-45 port for the PLM. The PLM cane with and RJ-45 patch cord with RJ-45 connectors on each end. What's going on here? How am I to connect the PLM to the iSy? Thanks in advance for the answer to what must certainly be n00b question of 2015. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

Hey, thanks for all the info and suggestions folks. I'm waiting on parts to bench test this setup with Zwave control. I'll report back how it works out. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

I'm after fail secure with a UPS driving my home systems and an actual battery backup just for the maglock. We don't have many power failures in my area, and if we do, they are a few seconds to a minute at most. I was just wondering about a maglock because this would give me another layer of security at what I deem a weak point in my perimeter, and I could control the lock from a distance to let someone in. I don't know of any other device that would afford me those capabilities for a garage door, and the setup can be purchased fairly inexpensively. One can wire in a relay that will not allow the door opener to trigger unless the maglock is removed from the circuit.......or perhaps I should say, a relay that simultaneously opens the maglock loop and closes the push button circuit loop to open the door. I suppose it could be tied into the alarm system, if someone wished to take it that far. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

I'm using a built device with I/O relay and Ecolink tilt sensor to handle open/close notification, however, I'm still not satisfied with my security of the door due to not being able to engage the actual, physical locking handle inside the garage. I am designing an I/O circuit to engage a mag-lock that will not allow someone to overcome the opener and get in under the door. Any thoughts on this? I see no reason this would not work perfectly and offer the ability not only to open/close but also lock/unlock from work or out of the country even. Thanks for any feed back.
