Echo Show
I pre-ordered two also; I need help! Hi, my name is Mark, and I am an Echoholic. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Alexa or the ISY often has to be told the same command three times or more
I have experienced this with a scene controlling a single device (LampLinc); it does not happen all the time, so I considered this an Insteon communication issue Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I solved the connection issue for the Echo Dot device furthest from the router by adding another "IoT" router in my basement, directly below the room where the Dot with connection issues is located. I was able to connect this device to 5.0 GHz Wi-Fi and it has not dropped the connection. Mark Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Echo Dot with Wired Speakers PROBLEM
I have a problem but it turned out to be the cable that was working intermittently. I guess that doesn't help you. sorry Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Thanks for the info. Switching to 2.4 GHz was the first thing I tried for the Echo farthest from the router. I also tried this for the Echo close to the router, but it also had connection issues so I switched back to 5.0 GHz. I also have a separate "IoT" wireless access point (WAP) just for my IoT devices, so I don't think router throughput is an issue. Channel assignments between the multiple WAP's might require closer scrutiny. Eventually the IoT WAP will be on a separate sub-net once I finish running some additional required Category cable. I will just keep an eye on things, and maybe it can be fixed with modifications to my wireless setup Mark Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I am experiencing Wi-Fi dropouts on two of my new v2 Dots. One is positioned the furthest from the router, so might explain the issue. The other one is within spitting distance of the router, however. To re-establish the Wi-Fi connection, I can either place it in setup mode and then take it out of setup mode, or initiate a power cycle; in either case, the device reconnects. Is anyone else experiencing intermittent Wi-Fi connectivity issues? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I removed the Power from one of the new echo dots to put a shorter USB cord on it. Upon startup it wouldn't connect to Wi-Fi I had to go into the app and put it in set up mode and reselect the Wi-Fi. I am using 5.0 GHz exclusively and this is one of the furthest ones away from the router so that could be an issue but given the other Wi-Fi issues I've had with the new version two dots I am thinking that they have some minor Wi-Fi issues, but maybe it is only with 5.0 GHz. Those are the same software versions I have on my generation one and generation two Dots, respectively. You said you placed them next to each other maybe if they are too close to ESP doesn't work? Maybe you should try moving them further apart? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I think unique IDs would need to be supported by Amazon (obviously) as well as the ISY portal. Outside of those limitations I would see it operating the same way does now. Instead of having ISY Portal sub-accounts you would have the unique IDs that you would create the spoken commands for each desired device. The big benefit would be the need for only one Amazon account and that all the devices can have prime music as well as the other prime features that can't be shared. Up until recently I also had a single SSID and password for both the 2.4 and 5.0 GHz radio's. That was how the original Dot and the full-size echo were connected and they didn't have a problem with initial connection, nor subsequent performance. When I set up my dedicated IOT router I separated the radio SSID's, so now I have to actively choose which one but for stationary devices it shouldn't matter, unless the radio is fickle like that. I have experienced two instances of the new dots dropping Wi-Fi I am using 5.0 Ghz, but the units are stationary and do not move. I'm just wondering if anyone else has experienced Wi-Fi dropping on the new dots. Thanks. Mark Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I forgot about that because I have already ceded my secondary Prime benefits to my Mom. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

You will also need 5 separate Amazon accounts, as far as I understand it. Each separate Portal account is linked to each separate Amazon account, which allows customization of the spoken commands for the given linked devices. Aside from the complexity and pain of all those additional accounts--made easier with the use of a password manager--, you lose Prime Music on all but your primary Amazon account. After setup they do a software update to version 561179520. I am pretty sure they started off on something else and the interim version was 551870320. Two of them got stuck on this version and went offline, so I had to enter setup mode and re-select the Wi-Fi. YMMV Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

But you need ISY Portal sub-accounts, correct? So with your four (I presume) Amazon accounts you have 1 main ISY Portal account and three ISY Portal sub-accounts? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

To solve the unique spoken commands / too many similarly named commands conundrum, I am going to try totally unique commands for the various bedrooms. This occurred to me when my son stated he would like to say "Lumos" (from Harry Potter) to turn on lights. My OCD did not let me come up with this on my own, and I figured it can't hurt to let the children come up with their own fun (unique) commands. However, if they say they want "light", "fan", or something I want to use, then I will need to recite my "There is no Democracy in this house, only Autocracy, unless General Mom initiates a coup." Not getting mine until the 25th. I use an excess pair of Mirage OmniSat speakers connected to an old Panasonic stereo receiver (thanks Mom!) for the one dot I have now. This works OK; nothing to brag about. I don't have any other excess speakers, so not sure what I will do. I like those powered monitors linked, but perhaps there are cheaper similar options, unless you already researched this. Did you consider standard monitor speakers and one of those mini DSP amps? For your desired spoken scenario, you will need multiple Amazon accounts as far as I understand it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Interesting; my Echo Dot is 4148 and the full-size Echo is 4008. Mark Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Thanks for the heads up. I confirmed this is working on my echo dot with software version 4148 and the echo with software version 4008. I know the software Version number for the echo did not change because I checked the other day when the discussion started here (but reported as not working yet) and it was also 4008; i'm not sure about the echo dot Mark Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Echo and Fanlinc
I have been having a similar issue. I also have high medium low and I have a bunch of fans in different rooms. Sometimes she'll ask me to repeat a command say she have several devices with that name so I was thinking to try maybe speed numbers like 1 to 3 but I haven't yet. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Thanks for sharing the details. As I said I currently have identical voice commands on both Echo accounts. The only area where I run into problems is when rooms have identical scenes (i.e. room 1 dim, room 2 dim) in the various rooms. I need to play around with the syntax and voice prompt to see if I can reduce the instances where Alexa says: "I have several devices with that name, which one do you want?" My preference would be to have one account for everything if I can manage to make the voice commands work reliably, given my specific set up. I even created a word document with all the various voice commands to train all the household members, myself included! Mark Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
