  1. Very interesting discussion here with many good points raised. I won't comment on any technical details of different protocols, and my FutureView crystal ball is a bit fuzzy right now so I can't exactly tell the future. But, I didn't want to wait for the future. I wanted something that worked really good right now. ISY and Insteon and Elk works very well for me and has exceeded my expectations. It's a very solid platform to do lots of home automation "stuff" Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  2. Thank you very much for this info DualBandAid. This worked perfectly for me, even though it felt a bit convoluted to set up. Two things I realized. First, I added a "effect":"none" parameter to my NR's since I noticed that if the bulbs are in a 'color loop' they will not respond to my color change programs. As you mentioned, if certain parameters aren't included in the NR they presumably stay the same as they were. If I put the lights in a 'color loop' via the API ("effect":"colorloop"), I needed to set the "effect" to "none" or it wouldn't respond as expected to my color change NR (i.e. the color wouldn't change, it just stayed in the color loop). Seemed like a good thing to include in my base NR that I copied in case the bulbs are set to some other type of "effect", maybe via one of the several iOS apps for example. Second, if you reset the Hue Hub, the username will change. I reset mine and re-added my 4 bulbs in a logical order so the NR paths made more logical sense. PS, I think the Hue bulbs are cool. Not exactly cheap and my experience is with the latest version bulbs (v3) that claim better colors than before (v2). I can see myself getting more...
  3. You need to change the program to sunrise *Next Day* Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  4. Gotcha. I'm not looking to add more hardware or hubs, except maybe a node server at some point once I grasp that better and 5.x moves beyond alpha. I will give your method a shot. Thanks! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  5. DualBandAid, I read your first descriptive post but not the next 60+ replies. I assume the first post from a year ago still gives the best starting point for new Hue Hub integration? Thank you! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  6. Trying not to hijack but... Anyone see need for a 2+ load Controller? Just installed a fan light heater combo unit and had to monkey around with microswitches, micro dimmers and relays. Something that could work as an in-wall fanlinc for those with existing three conductor wiring? [emoji851][emoji482] Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  7. No Alexander or whatever here (see SNL) but this cracks me up. Almost sounds like it's learning [emoji851] Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  8. I feel I need to clean up my ISY here... ~200+ programs 40 variables 25 resources Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  9. I use the ELK m1 for similar reasons as stated above. I also like that it has battery backup and could operate my GDO that also has battery backup. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  10. I can give you a partial answer. I don't use those specific cameras. Generally speaking the ISY gives network commands rather than receives them. So there's [probably] not a direct way to have an IP camera tell the ISY that it detected motion without additional hardware. With the API for the camera you could (depending on camera) put together a network resource in the ISY to, for example change the position of the camera or maybe start recording for that matter based on some trigger event. If you have a PC program watching the cameras and the desire to presumably learn something new you can look into the REST interface with the ISY? I haven't done that yet. Here I have a photobeam sensor that tells the ISY via my ELK to trigger a network resource and have certain cameras email/text a few pictures to me. My NVR also has output contacts that can be used as triggers in my ELK. Haven't used them but could be another way to tell the ISY (via more hardware) that an NVR "saw something" PS - is this indoor or outdoor? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  11. Joe, It appears you've selected "adjust scene" rather than "Insteon" when constructing your then statement. The syntax should say "set scene" rather than "in scene". Changing this should at least get the basic program to run and turn the scene on. As I understand, "adjust scene" is typically used to change how a scene reacts when turned on by a control switch. For example, maybe you want a switch to respond to a tap by turning lights on dim at night and 100% in the morning. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  12. You're not alone. What hardware version is the thermostat? Not sure if it matters here, but always make sure UI and Firmware are same version. Assuming there aren't any errant programs or user error, honestly I would return the thermostat. Not worth the headache if it doesn't play well with your HVAC. Maybe I'm reading into this more than I should, but Smarthome is now selling these well below their "list" price. Perhaps they know there's an issue. Hopefully they're coming out with something new. 13. A couple well placed cameras would be the best bet I think. Then could use Insteon or Elk sensors to turn on lights to get a better image. Running the cat6 for POE would be a little project if that's what you seek. IMO you can get some pretty good outdoor cameras for say $150 each. I've been happy with Hikvision.
  14. I just read through this old thread and found it interesting and insightful. I am well into this rabbit hole, and the best way out is forward for me. No regrets here, but it ain't always been easy. Worth a peruse, especially for anyone starting out.
  15. Yes, add them to your dashboard. Can include scenes devices and/or programs. You can then have the app automatically open to the dashboard, or a different screen if you want. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  17. I'm getting around to this... Each leak sensor I have (v.43) shows 3 nodes - dry, wet, heartbeat. I understand I should monitor the heartbeat to trigger this program, but then do I write updates to all 3 nodes? Or can I pick one? Or have some delay between writing to all 3 nodes? Edit: seeing post 13 on this thread from Teken showing use of the dry node. That would have been my guess... can someone confirm for posterity that you only need to include this node for the leak sensor? Thanks
  18. Interesting idea above... Perhaps not the answer you want, but you could buy the extra remote as you mention, "hack" it and solder wires to the button contacts and then use a web controlled relay board and ISY network resources to trigger the relays. I wouldn't use the iolinc since as I see it that only would give control of a single button. I've done similar for my Hunter Douglas RF controlled shades (bought before I caught the HA bug [emoji851]) with an extra remote and an Elk relay board. Before you fully go down this route, you might want to test how the remote button sequences work (if any). For example, are two buttons pressed in sequence and if so, how much time can pass between the button presses? What happens if they're pressed simultaneously? With the ISY and network resources, I would think programs would trigger the relays either nearly simultaneously or at least 1 second apart. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  19. OP, In addition to all the good advice above, You may be able to rescue yourself without a reset if you assign the same IP address as a reservation in your router. Assuming you're on the same subnet (etc idk) try reserving that same IP address for the ISY MAC on your LAN and reboot the ISY. Edit: and then change the ISY to get DHCP reserved / "fixed" IP address from router Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  20. I think the problem is that the ISY re-evaluates the IF statement before executing the statement after the Wait command (it will go down the Else path) . I think you can split it into two programs. Or maybe turn it off on the else path, but I prefer to not use the else path very often. IF Motion triggered THEN Turn on lights Send notification Run "2nd program" then path 2nd program THEN WAIT 20 minutes Turn off lights Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  21. I would use a scene. Note that an "easier way" than doing it individually is to select multiple devices by holding the shift key and clicking on a device further on the list. Then you can drag that group of devices into the scene. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  22. If neither work I would call Verizon. I've had to do that on occasion. When it works it works, but sometimes they need to be reminded that people use these, it seems. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  23. Have you tried sending to @vzwpix instead of @vtext? I'm using it and it works pretty well for me. Can also send pictures to that address Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  24. Roomba has perhaps already forfeited the 4th per future fine print in the terms of use with Alexa. Dog is smarter than roomba and echo but of course less knowledgeable than Alexa. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
