I find Alexa very Quirky. Sometimes she understands and sometimes she just starts talking without being initialized. I also find that my different generations of echo dots aren't always in sync with one another. I'm wondering if google products are more consistent. It might be time to change from Amazon to Google.

This is the logic: You speak a requested volume level to your Alexa. For example you say "set Marantz volume to 56" as per the ISP portal. See the first screen shot in my previous post. The ISP portal will set the state variable Vol.TRIGGER to 56 within your ISY. When a state value changes the ISY program Vol.SetValue will run: If the state variable Vol.TRIGGER value is greater than zero (indicating it has a newly requested volume setting change) and the new value is between the previously set minimum and maximum acceptable values then copy the new Vol.TRIGGER value to the integer variable Vol.Current and reset the Vol.TRIGGER state variable value to 0 in order to be ready to detect a future change. lastly, run the network resource Vol.ADJUST which will send the required requested new volume setting to the Marantz receiver. The Vol.Adjust network resource sends the intiger variable Vol.Current value as {var.1.12} embedded in it. The Marantz IP command MV$ is means Main or Zone 1 Volume value. I have a spreadsheet from Denon/Marantz of every IP control value for many of their receivers it you need any particular command. I hope this helps clarify.

I have a Marantz receiver. I believe the commands are the same for a Denon. This is how I have my volume control set up. I have multiple ways to adjust my volume. One way is to just increase the volume with a voice command, or to decrease volume with a voice command. another way I can adjust the volume is to specify a specific value. All of these are done through the I SY portal to send network resource (NR) commands to my Marantz. to send a specific volume value I have set up a number of variables, Integer variables: State variables: If the state variable Vol.Trigger changes, I first test to make sure it is a value within acceptable range (Min and Max fixed variable settings). Then I copy the Trigger value to the Current Vol value Int Variable and reset the Trigger back to zero before proceeding. Finally I send the Current Vol value to the Marantz by inserting it int a NR command. Network Resource command to tell Marantz to set vol to the value in the specified variable {var.1.12}. (1 is the variable type - integer, 12 is the variable number). My Alexa voice command is "Set Marantz Volume to 55" and the volume changes to that or any other number I use. I wrote this a num,ber of years ago so I hope I haven't missed anything. I hope this helps.

I had been running the Rainmachine app to control my 16 zone Rainmachine Pro controller ever since you released it in Polyglot V2. I recently converted my ISY to IoP (on Polisy)and moved to the paid version of your app on Polyglot V3. Now it only shows 12 zones. The free Polyglot V2 showed all 16 zones and worked great. How can I get all 16 zones to work with the paid version on polyglot V3? Thanks for your help

Thank you for the clarification

That is helpful to know. I'm comfortable SSH into Polisy. I will check it out tomorrow. Thanks

I do have a polisy pro and there is a Wi-Fi card in the center slot. It is the little header Forward of that card that on mine is empty. It is the space that that orange arrow points to.. it is empty on mine. But is occupied in the picture with the orange arrow

I am upgrading my Polisy. I ordered it from UD when it was first announced so it is a very early version. On the wiki user guide update page, it says "If the OS is below 13, you have a few choices:" Mine OS was never higher then 2.x and after the full upgrade process it's 5.4.5. What was 13? I flashed my system with the new firmware downloaded from UD as instructed that got my up to date (I think. I have not moved my PLM and ported my ISY over to it yet.) Also, my Polisy does not have anything plugged into the SP1 header on the Polisy motherboard like what is highlighted with an orange arrow in the picture on that same Wiki page. Are there multiple versions of the Polisy? Do I need to replace or add anything to mine? I am being extra carful before I move my ISY system to the Polisy. From Wiki instructions: My Polisy:

After years of using Alexa to control my devices through my ISY, today nothing works. When I ask Alexa to off kitchen light, for example, she responds "Sorry, Kitchen light isn't responding." I have tested most devices and I get the same device "not responding" response. I can control everything directly from the Admin Screen and I can ping the ISY. Nothing has changed that I know of and everything else is working including other Alexa skills such as EcoBee control. I just can't control anyISY device through Alexa. She indicates everything is unresponsive. Other then ISY control Alexa is working normally. I have tried the following things to correct the problem, but none have worked: I powered off and on the ISY and PLM and verified the IP address. I rebooted my router. I verified my ISY portal account is active, and my devices are all listed I disabled the ISY skill in Alexa and re-enabled it and signed back in it the Alexa app. It now lists all my devices in the app as unresponsive. When I run discovery Alexa does not find any devices. Is anyone else having problems with Alexa control ISY?

Is this a sign the IOLinc has gone bad?
david-4 replied to Screw Loose Dan's topic in INSTEON Communications Issues
I found the source of my IOLinc failure Problem: I recently started having a similar problem with the IOLinc (2450 V2.4) I use to control and monitor the status of my garage door. It has worked fine for years until today. Every time I triggered the IOLinc to open or close the door the IOLinc would go offline and the ISY reported it as unavailable. It didn't matter if it were triggered from a program or directly from the Admin console. I would have to manually press the link button on the side of the IOLinc to get the IOLinc back on line. I tried disconnecting the IOLinc from the garage door opener but it would still go offline when triggered. But if I moved it to another room it worked fine. After much trial and error I discovered the true cause. Cause and Solution: I had plugged in my Dewalt battery charger (model DCB112) a few days ago and left it plugged in even though I had removed the batter I was charging. It was on the same branch circuit as the IOLinc. When I unplugged the Dewalt charger the IOLinc worked fine! In the future I will use a filter when I plug in the battery charger and unplug it when not in use. -
I agree with larryllix. While the Echo Dot gen 3 might have a bit better fidelity for streaming music, I find the Alexa voice generated by the Gen 3's very difficult to understand. (Maybe because I have old ears). However I don't use my Dots for music and the fidelity of a streaming voice is dependent on the podcast source (for example the BBC News stream is very hard to hear but NPR is loud and clear). I have Dots in every room primarily for voice control of my devices and for information inquiries. As my Echo Dot Gen 2 started to die I began replacing them with Gen 3 Dots but when I realized how difficult it was to make out Alexa's voice I started looking for new Gen 3 Dots instead. According to Amazon, the audio equalizer settings in the Alexa App only affects the streamed audio out of the Dot and not the Alexa voice itself. It's getting harder to find new Gen 2 Dot for sale and my existing Gen 2's are all starting to fail. I was think of changing over to Google Home devices but not if the problems you all are experiencing are universal. Is this something the ISY/UD will address at their end or is it solely a Google issue?

I'm having the same problem. I could not connect via https://polisy so I tried with https://192.(ip address) and i got th the login screen, changed the admin password, set the time zone, and otherwise browsed the menus. At some point the Polisy stopped responding. I closed my browser and now cannot reconnect. I have power-cycled the polisy many times, I've reset it using the hole in the front. I have flushed the cashe in my browsers and my windows system cashes. I have tried it from Chrome, Firefox and Edge. I get the response that the device refused the connection. Sometimes I get the safe site warning but when I push past that I again get the device refused the connection. I can see it on my router and I can ping it from my PC. I have tried everything I can think of including a hard reset button in the hole in the front of the Polisy. What else can I try to get connected?

So what's needed is a Ethernet to zigbee converter? I just found this: Shanghai ZLAN Zigbee products currently have two categories, one is serial port converter to Zigbee for Model ZLAN9500, it includes 3 kinds of serial port: RS232/485/422. The other is Ethernet (TCP/IP) converting to Zigbee for Model ZLAN9503, can make Zigbee connected Internet.

Doesn't Universal Device's ISY and Polisy have a Zigbee module? And would that allow control the Sinope thermostat?

It looks like the original thermostat I had from WarmTiles electric radiant heat was manufactured by Danfoss. Danfoss recently released a WiFi capable thermostat for floor heat - the LX205T WIFI Touch Thermostat - https://www.danfoss.com/en-us/search/?query=AI210586469779. It uses an app so I assume through the cloud. I still wonder if there is a way to send my own IP commands to it through WiFi from ISY with out relying on the manufacture's server over the internet. I'm thinking of buying one just to see but I'm not sure I have the exportise to really test it

I just looked at StelPro site. Will any of there smart thermostats work? It would be great if I could find a system that would integrate all my thermostat needs. I have two Heat pumps (one for each floor) each with its own thermostat and electric radiant floor heat in the bathroom.

Network Thermostat (www.networkthermostat.com) has a line of WiFi and Ethernet connected thermostats the do not require a cloud. They seem to have an extensive line up of products. I don't know much else about them. Is there a way to make there thermostats work?

Very good point! I very much appreciate all the time and effort that goes into the development of these programs that all of you make available - And to the time those of you with more experience contribute to help the rest of us figure out what we are doing. Even if the apps and solutions may not be directly applicable to my requirements I still appreciate the time taken to explain and educate us. I may forget to say so but Thank you! Thank you Simplextech

I'm looking for a smart thermostat for electric radiant floor heat. Preferably I'd like it to be ip-addressable from within my network, but another work around could be z-wave or zigbee as long as it's not a porprietary protocol that requires a manufacture's specific hub that requires cloud processing for regular functioning.
-
That's too bad. That rules it out for me. I assume this mean that even using a packet sniffer to determine the commands to the thermostat won't work because the thermostat is locked down by the manufacture? I want to be able to run routines internally to control the thermostat and to integrate/coordinate its functions with my other home heating controls. Why do these manufactures insist on access to our homes after we purchase their products?
-
Thanks. You mentioned that the thermostat is cloud based. Does this mean that the thermostat requires an internet connection to operate. And is this how the manufacture's interface is designed? Will this be true with your interface also? My goal is to keep as much control on my side of the firewall as possible. I know Alexa and google require internet access for voice control buy they talk to my ISY and my ISY controls my devices. I don't want to depend on a cloud based proceed in some far-off location to operate my smart devices. I want it all to work even when my internet connection goes down. I don't want any apps on my phone or to access it remotely. Can this thermostat be controlled directly from my controller on my side of my router? And will your app allow the same if I have am running polyglot locally? Again, thanks for your help
-
I'm very interested in this too. Please send me info about the thermostat and your Polyglot NodeServer for it. My WarmTiles thermostat is malfunctioning and I need to replace it very soon - even if the interconnectablity is not finished, I'd at least like to purchase the correct thermostat now. Thanks!

Thank you. That is a very helpful clarification.

This sounds like a great improvement. When you created the name for each of your devices in ISY portal for Google control did you include the word "light" in each of them, ie, overhead "light" or just "overhead" ?
