So I got tired of insteon leak sensors rusting out as soon as there was a leak, found z-wave sensors much more robust and cheaper, did my due diligent and searched the forums and wiki, found a wiki explaining how to do this, buy the internal dongle, awesome few days ago I bought it from a recommended site ochraste or something, got it today, installed it i on bottom row of i/o port great isy still function and no smoke. So next step is to buy the z-wave module under help which then redirects to isy portal where no where can I find any modules. So question being how do I get z-wave working if I dont have modules to buy especially for a 1$? I did reboot and am I most current 5.3.2 no z-wave shows up. Not sure what Im missing? Also how do I find other modules that I may not know exist or I could use! FYI its a i994 ir Pro that did not have z-wave if that makes a difference.

as this first program was written for me as for program does not say weather to use (and,or) also does not say (is is not, etc) this is the clarification im asking the community, what values do I put in to make the program work that im missing. Should be this used under if, then, else. So many blanks to this program, and upper level users if you can contact development on my behalf to clarify intent of this program and just email me would be great also.

this is exactly how isy tech support sent me instructions to write this, so Im asking if anyone can fill in the blanks. There's just the basics but not full picture. Or is there a direct email address to isy development to clarify what they wanted me to write?

Not trying to go on top of his work rather understand it. How to input it in admin console, and its isy developments team who did the work

so I paid for support and have this insane program written for me, but no clue how to implement it, do I use and, or? = or < ? if someone could look at this program that isy higher up wrote and break it down a little clear so I know exactly what goes where, its kinda of vague, as in step 1 do I create it in in action, conditions etc, do I use = or < should it be in, if then or else. Im guessing that isy development team or braddford thought I had more knowledge and wrote it in advanced terms or rather in simple as if I would know where to fill in the blanks. Another example is program 1 does he mean if control of switch is turned on, or does switch 1 is control switched on a different programming method? I can write simple programs, Like if its 10pm turn this switch off, or turn this switch on at 6am. but with the endless possibilities with isy who knows what I could miss or mess up, I dont try to be a power user. You need 3 programs to accomplish what your goal is, you also need a state variable. Step 1: Create a State Variable named “Manual override” and set its value to 0 Step 2: Program 1: If Switch 1 is (Control) switched on And Switch 1 is (Control) not switched off Or Switch 2 is (Control) switched on And Switch 2 is (Control) not switched off Or Switch 3 is (Control) switched on And Switch 3 (Control) not switched off Then Set “manual override” variable = 1 Else Set “manual override” variable = 0 Step 3: Program 2: If Variable “manual override” = 1 Then Wait 60 min Device -- set light to off Set manual override variable = 0 Step 4: Program 3: If Device motion is (control) switched on And Variable “manual override” = 0 Then Device -- set light to on Wait 5 minutes Device -- set light to off This should create a logic that uses the 5 min timer only when the switches have not been touched, if they switch on, the logic uses 1 hour, and if they are switched off the 5 min timer on motion will be used. Any help to put this in simpleton terms would be great otherwise I have to wait for Bradford from tech support to return. Thanks in advance

see this is where it gets confusing because it kinda works, light never turns off, but does change light level during motion, your a great help, illl give that a try. Edit how do I add parentheses? I read a wiki explaining this but searched on how to add them no avail. The idea works and makes sense but how do I add them seen many examples but no where could I find how to use them, I like to learn not having work given out to me, Id wish there was more programing excerpt in wiki from people to have one place to see all different programs people use to build off of. Like i wanted this or that hers the program, I would like use strictly programming like templates people can just tweak for their personal preference.. Also A better explanation of how they created the program. Not all ISY users are so tech savey most just want to turn lights on or off, which was fine for me last few years but ISY can do so much more with program knowledge that many of us do not have.

Hey community, so I have basic linking and programming down, but I have a little more difficult program out of my scope but if someone could nail it I can use it for other programs in mind. Scenario I have my bathroom in a dark place i want motion sensor especially at 2 am to turn on the light via motion for 5 min....ok I got this, but what if gf comes in at 8am to shower obviously she will be mad showering and light turns off, how do I write a program that over rides the motion by actually pressing the switch AND in case my forgetful GF dosent turn off switch lets say in a hour of no activity it will shut it off any ways, my second program is if your walking up to drive way drive way motion is triggered, but if its late at night and drive way motion is triggered and Front door is triggered in lets say 30 seconds that Hall way Light goes on for 2 min at 100% . Iv never used these variables but would love to use the ISY to its fullest. I'm using gen 2 motion sensors from insteon so setting would be great too if any needed.

Iv used insteon products for 8 years now, but I see zwave is becoming competive as well seems some nicer products that insteon does not offer as well as cheaper prices. Question being what do I need to transition to zwave. I have a 994 do I need some type of hub? do I need to purchase software? can isy co exist with both and yes i know that isy supports zwave but do I use the same isy gui as for insteon because I never see option for zwave devices. Any help with a transition would be great. Id really lie to zwave a go if setup isn't to $$$$

Sound advice just sucks to do that much work with so called smart switches

This question will be basic for most but what im trying to do is ramp light levels up based on day of time eg. 6am motion sensor turn up light to 40%, 8am turn up to 100%, 10am do not on up till 6pm then in reverse order ramp it down, does this need individual programs or can this be a single program, any examples would help...tks

I have been systematically replacing switches with ones that have issues, last year bought a ton when on sale, this seemed to fix all my issues I only get 1alert now for a switch I did not replace yet. Its a older switch just no time, my confusion is they work locally and remotely just throw codes is isy. My new issue UGH is while trying to replace some switches and trying to add them… brand new switches (tried 3) 2477d X2 and a on and off switch always get insteon engine cannot... I do get their stupid process how they letter things but cannot add any to isy manually or automatically. I tried different variance of 0 and 8 etc, no luck. 3 switches brand new cant be bad. I for a change uploaded log files and don't understand why event viewer is so short when there is 100 Activities a day. I miss the days of UDI live support. Not to down play how great the forum is but live support usually fixes it within a hour not days. Anybody for remote access and get paid via paypal? I just want this to get finally fixed by a pro, rather then wasting peoples time. EDIT so I don't think I should worry about pahse n signal etc because with 40 devices in such a small house using dual band, and the area where I want to replace a switch is literly next to another dual band switch that work just fine and less then 10 feet from 6 other dual band switches that work fine. so I have 40+ dual band insteon devices, and at random some devices don't change status in isy, and or upon opening admin section I get, cannot communicate with this device and the devices are usually different. So there is not 1 specific device with a issue. The house is 900sq ft. The devices that give me the least issues are ones furthest away from the isy, as in outside. A query fixes these issues. The other issues when there not being found at first then I cant use alexa. Any thoughts.

Hi ladys and gents hope all of us are enjoying our 3 day weekend in US and unfortunately others have to work. Sorry, so my issue is as follows before I started this topic and bothered people I did a simple google search of how to automatically query the isy. To get to root of this problem is that I lose track of maybe 3 tasks while ISY does 100s a day and sometimes gets confused. Sometimes status does not show up right or motion sensors stop working , usually a query fixes but on rare occasions a reboot fixes it, so going back to start of my question my google search came back with info….very old info about this, as the isy is ever changing. Is there a program that I can use to automatically query all devices 4x a day and/or reboot isy daily lets say 2am. Sorry if this has been answered but sifting through sooooo much data can take a day to get proper answer. Thank You in advance

iv uploaded some screen shots I know its not all the data that needs to be seen but maybe someone can see something or anything strange, boot loop has stopped on its own but now alexa is not responding,

Sorry to bug but can anyone please explain why I can no longer access isy, it constantly wants to update all wifi devices, which in 7 years happened. Maybe 1 but not all. attached is a short log. now mind you I have not changed any dip switches since it worked in 4.xxxx versions Ill check that but issue only arises in ver 5xxx

spot on no scene included one program has(if) motion detected then (run) the (then) of another program that has exactly what you stated, when I first started out I was told by UDI not to combine them in same program, has that changed now because I would have wrote it if motion is on then set garage lights on, wait 10 min set garage lights off. UDI said have separate programs for trigger and action which I thought was waste of time but at that time seemed to work and now uncertain since UDI did a major overhaul if that still applies. I would think separate prograns would be for different time or conditions etc. Never seemed a need to do separate prograns. Didn't understand why I needed so many. Now redoing my whole hose from start I followed their 5 year old program Included are pics if program that do not work.

trying to make a simple program 1 is if garage motion (control or trigger) is on run the (then) program garage timer , so garage timer (then) says turn garage lights on, wait 10 min and turn off but it turns off in 1 to 2 min regardless of status or control. Normally status is what the device reports, control is actually hitting the switch but neither works always times out. Goal is if we walk through laundry room to get to garage its only on for 2 min but if my girlfriend is folding laundry it stays on until she leaves, same with garage I smoke so Id like the garage to stay on for 10 min but if I decide to smoke 2 it wont shut off so im lost as to what im doing wrong

yes I played with isy and amazon for hours trying this and that and knowing that udi is on top of things (also thinking amazon) after 6 hours I called amazon and while on the phone call I tried to give them the error we\hen I noticed it was now working and they said might take 24 hours because those servers are different from shopping servers. But once set up changes should be instant bare in mind the 30 to 5min wait

I edited my post to reflect that unlike isy and most real world wants that change in a second amazingly amazon takes up to 24 hours, as I was on tech support with them the changes took place about 6 hours after my post also for reference I did manage to make the status of a switch to contact and every time the switch was turned on my echo would announce my custom phrase, but it dose take anywhere from 30 seconds to 5min to do it again. Maybe one of the admins can rewrite this in their own word and sticky it. When I get time ill try to write a detailed hands on walk through for new people to help the community

so with the new email about alexa voice, I was excited to try it out, did some research and trouble shooting. I was able for the most part get pretty far, here is where I stand. im on ver 5.0.13D I have 33 devices, my isy portal is linked (and has been for a year) voice commands work with alexa (well as good as possible) I can control all devices via the alexa app so far all is good, but since today is sat I decided to try to set up alexa to talk back as outlined in email a few days ago. reading that things had to be switch or motion,changed the status of a light switch from light to contact, had error this device is not supported. rediscovered devices and same issue. Tried same with another switch and again the error. Now im by no means a programmer and was trying to keep it simple at first eg. set switch up and if pressed alexa would say xxx is on. So if that worked I would venture on and experiment further. So any help getting this fixed would be great. I also mentioned this in past it might be a great idea that there could be a section for people less knowledgeable about programming to be able to hire someone with skills to write more complex skills and get paid via paypal or something. Better yet RDP into a system and help clean up stuff or troubleshoot outside normal udi business hours. Me personally work during those same hours so it difficult to call. Again thanks in advanced EDIT as I was on phone with Amazon went back to give them the error and it started working, their answer is it takes servers up to 24 hours to register the changes.
