Hi Michel;

Thanks for responding to my message.

As for checking http://your.isy.ip.address/emeter/metering/log, I get a message that the log is not found.

I can see a lot of Errors in the Event Log, but I'm not sure what I should be looking for. So here's a cut/paste of from the log:

Let me know if you see anything that would help determine what the problem is.

Thanks,

Frank

Michel (or anyone else);

Any thoughts on what's in the log entry that I posted last week? If I had to guess, I would say that it looks like there's no communication with the meter but, as I mentioned earlier, I don't really know how to read the log so I'm not sure what I'm looking at.

Thanks,

Frank

Hi Michel;

No, I see a red exclamation point ( ! ), not yellow. I've also responded to the email you sent and included a screenshot of the My Electricity panel, so you should be able to see what I mean in that screenshot.

If the ISY is not connected to the meter, what do I need to do to re-establish the connection?

Thanks,

Frank

Hi Michel;

I just spent the better part of an hour on the phone with PG&E HAN support. Talked to 2 different people and a supervisor, and they couldn't get the ISY994i working with my meter. They say that, at their end, the system is telling them that the device (the ISY) is not compatible.

Of course, we know it is compatible because others have theirs working, and mine was working in the past. So... any suggestions?

Is there any information I can provide to you that might help you come up with ideas? Are there any settings in the ISY that I can double-check to make sure I have things set up correctly on my end?

Here's what I know: It appears that the ISY sees the meter. If I look on the AMI Meter section of the Electricity tab in the Admin console, the Network Status shows as "Established | Node:FA32 | Channel:25 | Power:-11". But the Time Status never synchronizes, and I never get any usage data from the meter.

By the way, everyone I talked to at PG&E is being very nice about this. They admit that the HAN stuff is new for them and that they are still learning, so if I can go back to them with any suggestions for what might be wrong, I expect they'll be cooperative.

Thanks for any help you can provide.

Regards,

Frank

Hi Frank,

We are going through PG&E HAN validation as we speak. While testing, I noticed behavior very similar to yours but it recovered by itself.

The fact that status is Established tells me that ISY has joined the meter network but all queries are simply erroring out. You might want to look at http://your.isy.ip.address/rest/emter/metering/log ... you can also send it to me.

What I would ask them:

1. Is ISY registered in the meter (do they see it)

2. Is the meter's Zigbee board working properly

With kind regards,

Michel

I have been having problems with a PG&E smart meter for several months; I get scanning/joining/down. The PG&E folks have been very patient and helpful and now that I know you are working with them on validation I will cease messing with it until that process is complete.

As always, I am awed by the attitude and support from UDI! Thanks

Hi Michel;

Regarding your two questions:

1. Is ISY registered in the meter (do they see it)

- Yes, they do see the meter. They found it almost immediately once I gave them the EUID.

2. Is the meter's Zigbee board working properly

- I didn't ask them if the meter's Zigbee board was working properly because I thought they would know if it wasn't. Is there something specific I can ask them that will help them determine if it's working correctly?

If it's the Zigbee board in the meter, then it looks like others on this thread have faulty meters as well. But if the Zigbee board wasn't working, wouldn't that also prevent them from reading my meter and properly billing me?

Thanks again for your great support.

Frank

Hi Frank,

The can see the meter or ISY.

We do NOT have any outstanding issues with the anyone else using PG&E Smart Meter. All have been resolved.

As far as Zigbee board, NO: they do not need Zigbee to read the meter and bill you. Zigbee is only for HAN (Home Area Communications) so that customers can have access to the meter information.

With kind regards,

Michel

Hi Michel;

Sorry, I meant that they can see the ISY. They found it within a minute or so of my providing the EUID.

When I mentioned others with PG&E issues, I was referring to the comments from cmccartney and GuitarBuilder that were just posted on Tuesday and Wednesday. I assumed their issues were still open, but perhaps you've been able to resolve their problems already.

I will give PG&E HAN support another call -- hopefully tomorrow morning -- and ask if they can verify that the Zigbee board in my meter is functioning correctly. I'll let you know what they say.

Thanks again for the support.

Regards,

Frank

Hi Frank,

I stand corrected. There's indeed one more open issue that we are tracking. This one, though, cannot even join the meter even though it finds it.

Please let me know what you find. Or, please ask them whether or not we can have a conference call so that I can remote into your computer and see what's going on.

With kind regards,

Michel

Hi Michel;

Sorry for the delay in getting back to this, but the day job keeps getting in the way of the fun stuff, and I haven't had time to follow up...

I got a call from a PG&E Supervisor this afternoon (Dan - didn't get a last name), and he wanted to let me know that the reason my ISY is not working is because the Universal Devices ISY-994 is not a PG&E approved device. I explained that I had registered it months ago, that the PG&E people I talked to at the time helped me register the device, and that it worked fine for a few months -- and he admitted that he didn't know why it would work for a while and then stop -- but he insisted that the Universal Devices product was not approved by PG&E.

So... any chance UDI is working with PG&E to get the ISY authorized?

Thanks,

Frank

I got the same call from Dan @ PG&E today. I already knew that registration is underway and am just sitting back and waiting.

For people that have at least had the meter linked at one time, what does your installation look like in terms of distance to the meter, walls involved, etc?

I've never been successful at getting it to even show up, though I haven't actually gone outside with the isy and stood with the antenna directly in front of the meter, though I have stuck it outside a door with a 20 foot line of sight to the meter and still been unsuccessful at seeing anything, though looking at my email, I see now that I was supposed to call PG&E when I was near the meter and the device around April 2013, so maybe unless I call them I won't see anything at all? not even a network that I can't join?

Good news. PG&E has implemented the promised HAN link on their My Energy website. Go to:

https://www.pge.com/myenergyweb/appmanager/pge/customer

(you may have to register, or sign in). Near the bottom of the page in the Additional Services area is a link Home and Business Area Network. This takes you to a Dashboard that allows you to register and edit HAN devices.

My non-working ISY994 was already listed, but with a different and longer install code. Unfortunately the web interface will neither let me edit the install code nor delete that device in order to add a new one. So I guess I have to call them on the phone.

I do see this as a step forward.
