TanerH Posted March 29, 2013 Posted March 29, 2013 Hello! I have an ISY994i w/ a 2413S PLM, and I was able to link a iMeter Solo (2434A1) with no problem. But, when I try to link a 2443 Access Point (sticker says it's "V2.A"), it acts like it's going to link, but errors out: Thu 03/28/2013 10:20:01 PM : Start Insteon Device Linking Mode Thu 03/28/2013 10:20:01 PM : [LNK-BGN ] 02 64 01 00 06 Thu 03/28/2013 10:20:21 PM : [LNK-STAT ] 02 53 M(01) gid=00 1F.41.D2 000B 9A Thu 03/28/2013 10:20:21 PM : [1F.41.D2 00] Linked device type=00.0B fw=9A Thu 03/28/2013 10:20:21 PM : [1F 41 D2 0 ] Added to list of devices to link to ISY Thu 03/28/2013 10:20:21 PM : [LNK-BGN ] 02 64 01 00 06 Thu 03/28/2013 10:20:50 PM : Stop Insteon Device Linking Mode, Final processing to follow Thu 03/28/2013 10:20:50 PM : [LNK-END ] 02 65 06 Thu 03/28/2013 10:20:50 PM : [std MH ] Unexpected Ack imCmd=65 cmd1= 0xD2 Thu 03/28/2013 10:20:50 PM : [iNST-TX-I1 ] 02 62 1F 41 D2 0F 0D 00 Thu 03/28/2013 10:20:50 PM : [iNST-ACK ] 02 62 1F.41.D2 0F 0D 00 06 (00) Thu 03/28/2013 10:20:51 PM : [iNST-SRX ] 02 50 1F.41.D2 22.81.34 2B 0D 01 (01) Thu 03/28/2013 10:20:51 PM : [std-Direct Ack] 1F.41.D2-->ISY/PLM Group=0, Max Hops=3, Hops Left=2 Thu 03/28/2013 10:20:55 PM : [iNST-TX-I1 ] 02 62 1F 41 D2 0F 0D 00 Thu 03/28/2013 10:20:55 PM : [iNST-ACK ] 02 62 1F.41.D2 0F 0D 00 06 (00) Thu 03/28/2013 10:20:55 PM : [iNST-SRX ] 02 50 1F.41.D2 22.81.34 2B 0D 01 (01) Thu 03/28/2013 10:20:55 PM : [std-Direct Ack] 1F.41.D2-->ISY/PLM Group=0, Max Hops=3, Hops Left=2 Thu 03/28/2013 10:20:55 PM : [1F 41 D2 0 ] Calibrating engine version Thu 03/28/2013 10:20:55 PM : [1F 41 D2 0 ] May not fully support i2, reverting to i1 Thu 03/28/2013 10:20:55 PM : [1F 41 D2 0 ] Using Database Link Table offset 0x0FF8 (reported 0x0000) Thu 03/28/2013 10:20:55 PM : [1F 41 D2 0 ] Failed to add device During this (before hitting "Finish") the dialog lists it as: To be Added 1F.41.D2 Unsupported Device:0.11 After pressing "Finish", it goes through the "Initializing System" motions, but then I get a popup in the java app that says: The following devices could not be added: 1F.41.D2 Unsupported Device:0.11 - Cannot determine Insteon Engine Help? -Taner
TanerH Posted March 29, 2013 Author Posted March 29, 2013 By the way: I may just be a complete moron, and not even need to link them... I mean, I have two APs (to bridge phases), and they seem to link to one another just fine... I was just assuming I could/should also link them to the 994i so that they are in my topology... no? -Taner
Michel Kohanim Posted March 29, 2013 Posted March 29, 2013 Hi TanerH, You should not link Access Points to ISY since they are passive devices only for routing purposes. With kind regards, Michel
TanerH Posted March 29, 2013 Author Posted March 29, 2013 You should not link Access Points to ISY since they are passive devices only for routing purposes. Heh, ok, thanks! Makes sense that it doesn't want to link, then Thanks for the quick response -Taner
evilpete Posted October 17, 2013 Posted October 17, 2013 Shouldn't there be a simple way to have them show up as inventory, thus allowing for detection of device failure ( or it is was unplugged by your kids/wife/etc... ) without having to physically locate and verify .
LeeG Posted October 17, 2013 Posted October 17, 2013 Access Points have no functional capability where they could be considered On or Off. Don't know what the ISY could do to know the device was no longer functional. They are not linked to other devices. The Access Point specs do not even indicate the existence of memory for linking.
oberkc Posted October 17, 2013 Posted October 17, 2013 I mean, I have two APs (to bridge phases), and they seem to link to one another just fine As a point of clarification, in case it is not clear from the other responses: access points do NOT link to each other. You should not link Access Points to ISY Also a point of clarification: I would go one step further...not only SHOULD ONE NOT link access points, one CANNOT link access points. Shouldn't there be a simple way to have them show up as inventory That does, however, seem like a good idea. If only it were possible.
scansbar Posted October 17, 2013 Posted October 17, 2013 Is there any way to tell if the access points are working if I already have multiple dual band devices?
oberkc Posted October 17, 2013 Posted October 17, 2013 Besides the 4-tap test in the manual, and the LED indication, I know of now way.
LeeG Posted October 17, 2013 Posted October 17, 2013 The number of additional Dual Band devices makes no difference. As oberkc indicated, initiate the 4 tap Set button test at one Access Point and look at the LED blinking and LED color pattern on the other Access Point. I suggest doing the test in the opposite direction to be sure there is good RF in both directions. The test will take a few minutes at most.
