I can't access the administrative interface of my ISY

I have tried each of the following methods to access the administrative interface of my ISY:

a. 99/994i - http://isy/admin - applet (Windows only)

b. 99/994i - http://isy/admin.jnlp - Java application (Windows only)

c. http://your.isy.ip.address/admin - applet

d. http://your.isy.ip.address/admin.jnlp - Java application

e. http://www.universal-devices.com/99i/3.1.16 - applet

f. http://www.universal-devices.com/99i/3.1.16/admin.jnlp - Java application

None of them will work. I can ping the ISY. When I use the Windows applet, all I get is the standard message of leave this window open. On the other hand, when I try to use the Java applications says it is downloading the application, and then I get an error that says it ius unable to open the application. If I press the details button, I get 3 tabs. One says Launch File, and it contains:

Admin Console

Universal Devices, Inc.

Admin Console

Admin Console

urn:udi-com:device:X_Insteon_Lighting_Device:1

uuid:00:21:b9:00:f7:49

http://192.168.0.31/desc

The second tab says Exception, and it says:

at com.sun.deploy.net.DownloadEngine.actionDownload(Unknown Source)

The third tab says Wrapped Exception, and it says:

Every now and then I get a login screen, but it doesn't recognize my administrative credentials.

What should I do?

I should add that I uninstalled Jave and reinstalled it, but it made no difference. If I try to connect with IE by merely using the ISY's IP address, it says I am connecting to "My Lighting" sometimes. I may get a login screen, and I may not. I think the device is toast. Can anybody help?

It turns out that I think my problem was a networking issue. I was using wifi to try to connect and having the problem. It made no sense to me that there could have been a networking issue, as I was able to get to the Internet to post this topic, above. Anyway, I happened to try a cat 5 connection to the switch built into the wifi access point, and it worked. So, now I have a different issue to resolve. Thanks for the reply.

So this problem has reared its ugly head again. If I try to run my 99i Administrative Console, I get the message "Unable to launch the application." If I merely use IE to connect to the IP address, everything works fine. This is on the same PC, using the same wireless interface. What am I doing wrong?

Indeed, I am running Java Version 7 Update 51. I was having an issue in which my ISY connection would hang , so I uninstalled and reinstalled Java, then cleared my Java cache. Upon trying to run the program, I get the errors which are depicted in the attached files.

I have an ISY99i, so I am unable to upgrade past 3.3.10 (which is what I have). I read the article you included as a part of your reply. Since I am just now finding out about this, and I am well past your upgrade date, I appear to be out of luck. Does this mean the 4 ISYs I have and use regularly are now bricks? What can I do?

I too am unable to access my ISY99i, getting certificate expired errors as noted in other threads.  I'm running Java version 7 update 75.

Trying your recommended Option #2 (http://isy.universal-devices.com/994i/4.1.2/admin.jnlp) gives me a Windows dialog box to open admin.jnlp with the Java Web Start Launcher, which results in an Application Error - Unable to launch the application for the ISY994 Adminiistrative Console.

The error details are Unable to load resource: http://isy.universal-devicees.com/994i/4.2.1/insteaon.jar.

The Exception tab leads with com.sun.deploy.net.FaildDownloadException: Unable to load resouce: http://isy.universal-devices.com/994i/4.1.2/insteon.jar

The Wrapped Exception tab leads with java.net.SocketException: Connection reset.

This failure is repeatable on two different laptops.

What would you recommend for next steps?  Would going in to the Java Control Panel and turning off the various certificate and signed code checks (yikes!) get past the certifcate error?

CedarSprings,

While in and of itself this might not fix your problem, have you considered updating your Java version soon?  The good folks at Java (Oracle) are pretty strongly recommending that folks get to the current version, which looks like it is Version 8 Update 40.  I'm guessing that perhaps you may be using an earlier version of Java to support an earlier OS version.

If my guess is right, then you might want to note that the Java site is saying:

"As of April 8, 2014 Microsoft stopped supporting Windows XP and therefore it is no longer an officially supported platform. Users may still continue to use Java 7 updates on Windows XP at their own risk, but support will only be provided against Microsoft Windows releases Windows Vista or later."

As Java Version 8 seems to support Vista as the oldest supported OS, well, you know...

If I am wrong and you can get your Java Version updated to a currently supported OS, you really should consider it for a variety of security reasons.

Best

Appreaciate the suggestion.  I saw Java updates recommended on a number of threads reaching back to 2012 or 2013 when I was intitally working the issue, and did update Java the last week of March on both machines that we were working from at that time.  I haven't been back on site where the ISY is located lately to try again with the latest update. But the error seems to be more around certificate testing than an out and out Java compatibiltiy failure.

I also submitted the issue to Tech Support as Michel suggested, but have yet to hear back on that.

Have not heard back on my submission via the Contact Support site.  Perhaps I mis-typed my e-mail address.  I did reference this thread with a link in my submission. Maybe I just need to re-sbumit.

Hi CedarSprings,

I am so very sorry but I do not see any tickets from you (even with the wrong address). Would you be kind enough to send an email to support@universal-devices.com? Again, I am so very sorry.

With kind regards,

Michel

Well, I have managed to shoot myself in my foot once again. THis last weekend I decided I needed to rebuild my Windows 7 computer. I thought I had backed up everything important, but I missed at least one important thing: my shortcut for administrative access to my isy99. So, I have finished my OS install, and I have reinstalled Java. However, I am still unable to connect. If I try to go to http://isy.universal-devices.com/994i/4.1.2/admin.jnlp I get an error that says Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item. I am able to get to my isy by simply using its ip address, but I prefer to be able to use the Java console. What do I need to do?

Aha! I have found the answer. I found your instructions at http://forum.universal-devices.com/topic/15884-chrome-and-isys-admin-console/. In using the first method, my browser merely wanted to save the file. I thought that made no sense, so I didn't do it. Reading further, I found in the third post at this link a suggestion that I save the file and then run it. I did so, and viola, evrything is fixed. Thanks for all the help. Now, my next challenge is to figure out how to integrate Amazon Echo (Alexa) with my isy.

So today I managed to update my Universal Devices Administrative Console to 4.4.6. However, my UI is only 4.1.2. Shouldn't I have the same version as the firmware? In doing the update, I lost the Universal Devices icon. Is there any way to get it back? Also, when I double click on the present icon (which is just the Java logo and the title admin.jnlp), frequently it is dreadfully slow to open. Anybody have any ideas?
