lister Posted September 4, 2013 Posted September 4, 2013 Folks Am a new (and very happy) customer of ISY, recently bought a ISY994 to replace a somewhat unreliable WinXP based HA software. Very happy with the results, have about 60+ devices active, mostly Insteon and a handfull of X10's. I also have a ted 5000 for power monitoring (consumption), PG&E 15 minutes data monitoring (XML DL of utility usage), and a Solar City box for 15 minutes updates from my Solar panels (XML DL generation data). I am aware (forewarned) of the "issues" with ted 5000 re power network intereference. I have the MTU on the other side of a filtered local branch and have had zero issues for 18 months since my installation of TED There seem to be a few old posts discussing Ted (problems as well as requests for support). So guess i am asking if there's any plans or recent updates regarding TED support via ISY. For reference , have little interest in swapping out my TED for brultech or any other system. Ted works great for me and am happy with it. If no direct plans is it feasible to "emulate" what the brultech module does externally via one of IYS's various "interfaces" ? Cheers L
Michel Kohanim Posted September 5, 2013 Posted September 5, 2013 Hi Lister, Welcome to our world! We do not have any plans of supporting TED. This said, since you are in PG&E territory, you might have a Smart Meter which ISY994i ZS (Zigbee SEP) can natively communicate with. We have multiple customers who are using this method. With kind regards, Michel
funat120mph Posted December 1, 2013 Posted December 1, 2013 Michel, Do you know of any Florida Power & Light customers using the energy module? I called FPL before purchasing my ISY and they had no idea what I was talking about when I asked to communicate with the meter directly. Thanks. Adam
Michel Kohanim Posted December 1, 2013 Posted December 1, 2013 Hi Adam, Based on their website, Smart Meter should have been installed everywhere by the end of 2013: http://www.fpl.com/energysmart/when.shtml Looking at their website, I do not see any mention of HAN (Home Area Network) and thus I am afraid they do not support such configurations. I am sorry. With kind regards, Michel
Brian H Posted December 1, 2013 Posted December 1, 2013 The TED5000 and I believe my Ebay New surplus TED1001 Locked Model. Send a 11 byte data stream at Zero Crossing; using a one second interval. On 132KHz frequency. Insteon is 131.65KHz. Good chance it would interfere with Insteon commands. I know they do for the 120KHz X10 ones. I know the TED1001 I modified to get raw data out of. Outputs garbage when I send an Insteon Power Line command to my modules.
funat120mph Posted December 1, 2013 Posted December 1, 2013 Michel, I've had my smart meter for about 18 months but I thought they were required to support HAN. I have a TED 5000 and Brultech GEM, the GEM isn't set up yet so we'll see how it goes. I bought the GEM because I wanted more granularity. FPL support would be nice so I can compare to my monitors. I guess I can just use their website. Brian, when I remodeled my house I ran a Cat6 near my electric panel, I have a dedicated circuit for gateway power which is filtered in the panel. The Gateway and MTUs are basically directly connected this way and I don't need to rely on my home power lines. I am running Insteon without problems. I'm interested in more automation based on power. For example, shut off water to house with WSV if dishwasher and washing machine off and alarm set to away.
Michel Kohanim Posted December 2, 2013 Posted December 2, 2013 Hi Adam, In case you would like to swap your Zigbee SEP module with a regular Zigbee PRO module (for GEM support), please do let me know (support@universal-devices.com). With kind regards, Michel
funat120mph Posted December 6, 2013 Posted December 6, 2013 Michel, I'm actually using z-zwave alpha right now so I can't use both, right? Thanks
Michel Kohanim Posted December 6, 2013 Posted December 6, 2013 Hi Adam, You are correct. With kind regards, Michel
