brendan_muir Posted December 12, 2013 Posted December 12, 2013 I've searched and found reference to reading water meters here in the forum, but was hoping you might be able to point me in the direction of information that speaks more directly to what I am hoping to accomplish. Are there any water meters or water meter add-ons that work with the ISY994i or greater for the purposes of transmitting how much water is used to the ISY or other devices for data persistence? I want to be able to read the meter throughout the day and the readings. I am looking for a solution that would incorporate ZigBee or Insteon for communications with the water meter or smart metering device as opposed to something requiring a cable connected to a pulse counter or a serial port in some plugin device. I've seen talk of companies developing ZigBee water meters on the Internet before, but figured I would check with Universal to see if there is a solution baked in to the ISY already before I dig any deeper? Any info you can provide would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!! Brendan
Michel Kohanim Posted December 13, 2013 Posted December 13, 2013 Hi brendan, Unfortunately not. Sorry. With kind regards, Michel
brendan_muir Posted December 13, 2013 Author Posted December 13, 2013 Thanks for the response. If I identify some devices that communicate via ZigBee that would serve this purpose, what scale is the effort for Universal to add a device and expose it through the REST api? Is it reasonable to think that can be done? If so, it is reasonable to think it can happen in a few months in terms of getting a test build of the firmware that I could install manually on my ISY devices? (I understand that making new devices 'market ready' might be a longer pole). I'd be willing to help out however I could. Thanks, Brendan
Michel Kohanim Posted December 13, 2013 Posted December 13, 2013 Hi Brendan, Unfortunately I would have to give you my standard answer: it depends on the level of interest and ROI. To give you an indication, we had tremendous demand for Z-Wave. We have one or two requests here an there for Zigbee. With kind regards, Michel
brendan_muir Posted December 13, 2013 Author Posted December 13, 2013 Okay... that makes sense. Thank you. I will do my homework and check back if I come up with a request that may inspire both interest and ROI.
j0dan Posted December 14, 2013 Posted December 14, 2013 You can connect water meters to a Brultech meter and possibly interface that to the ISY.
