Slowness...

Is there a reason that the ISY99's communication to the PLM is so slow...?

Is this because of Insteon Design? Sometimes it takes 5 Min. just to restore a device or create a scene!? In todays world of High speed everything, I am at a loss to understand why updating an Insteon device is not instantaneous considering the amount of data being moved is insignificant....

Please advise.

I don't think it is the PLM to ISY99i communications being slow. The whole process of Insteon Signals having to read and write Links Tables to the modules in question takes time. If you have poor power line communications and the modules are retrying it gets even worse.

My older 2414S PLM with Ken Miller's 'InHomeFree' also could take a bit of time to query all modules status.

bbabaa,

Each command to INSTEON network requires 8 bytes. For simple commands, this process should not take more than 500 m.s. in good conditions. For restoring devices, please note the following:

1. Each record is 8 bytes

2. You need three commands to write/read one byte into the link db

Therefore, reading/writing each record should take between 10 to 12 seconds.

With the introduction of I2, this process will be much faster as you would only need to send one command and write all the 8 bytes.

With kind regards,

Michel
