Smoke Bridge Nodes

I just installed the insteon smoke bridge linked to a first alert smoke detector. the isy nodes read as follows

1.CO off

2. clear blank

3. low battery on

4. malfunction on

5 smoke off

6 test on

7 unknown message blank

is this correct

why is low battery and malfunction indicating "on"

Posted

Hi tommet,

Yes, correct. If low battery is on, then your device needs a new battery. Once you install a new battery, please right mouse click on the node and then choose Query from the menu to reset the battery low indicator.

With kind regards,

Michel

I'm having the exact same issue.  I've replaced the batteries, queried the insteon engine and with no impact.  Anyone else having the same issue?

When I query the "CO2 Detected" node I don't get a response, same with the "Clear" node, and the smoke detected node. All the other smoke bridge nodes respond to the query.

The "current state" for these three nodes is blank, the rest of the nodes all show as off.  Is this correct?

I was just looking at my seven nodes and the Smoke Bridge-Smoke node is blank.  I'm sure at one time it indicated "Off", but not any more.

I have done a factory reset and paired with the two First Alert smoke detectors but the node remains blank.  Shouldn't the state of the

node either indicate "On" or "Off"?

If you place the smoke bridge in test mode what happens?

If I go through the test mode, press and hold Smoke Bridge setbutton until flashing, test smoke alarm (smoke bridge led turns red until smoke alarm tests complete) resulting in "Smoke Bridge-Test" "On".  This can be reset to "Off" with a Query.   The "Smoke Bridge-Smoke" stays blank.  I have tried moving the alarms closer to the Smoke Bridge, but it makes no difference - same result.

Tap the Smoke Alarm Bridge Set button (do not press and hold).  It will cycle through 5 nodes, turning On the Smoke and then CO nodes until the last message is received at which point Smoke and CO are set to Off.  Run Tools | Diagnostics | Event Viewer at LEVEL 3 to watch the 5 node messages from the Smoke Detector.

This was the result of the Event Log entry.  Does this appear normal?

OK, I would remove the device from the ISY. Factory reset the smoke bridge. Then follow the installation steps to a T and report back your results.

I would just for the sake of testing before you do all of this. Just unplug the PLM, power down the ISY. Wait about 30 seconds plug the PLM back in.

Then wait another 10 seconds and apply power to the ISY and report back what happens when you select the test button while watching the level 3 events.

Post it up when your done.

I now only have the Test node functional - indicating "On" after the test.  All other nodes blank.

Which step did you decide to perform? Simply unplugging the PLM / ISY? Or the whole remove / link process?

Are you tapping the Smoke Bridge Set button or the test button on the smoke detector?  This is what the event trace should look like when tapping the Smoke Bridge Set button.

My middle of the night post (now corrected) was WRONG.   I said Smoke Alarm when I should have said Smoke Bridge.  The trace looks like a button press on the smoke detector which generates a test message only.  The correct action is to tap the Smoke Bridge Set button.  The trace in the post just before this post is for tapping the Smoke Bridge Set button which sends 5 message including Smoke On followed by CO On.   These On conditions are reset to Off by the last of the five messages.  My apologies for the bad post.

CO - Off

Clear - <Blank>

Low Bat - Off

Malfunction - Off

Smoke - Off

Test - Off

Unknown Message - Off

This is now the current state of the nodes (after tapping the Smoke Bridge button) - had to query two to go from "On" to an "Off", and query another to go from a <blank> to "Off".  Does THIS look appropriate?

I did unplug the PLM/ISY as suggested before I reinstalled the Smoke Bridge and paired it with the Smoke Detectors.  I could post the Event Log, but it is somewhat lengthy.

Looks fine now.

I concur, those values are expected.   The Query does not actually get sent to the Smoke Bridge but it does cause the ISY to reset that node.

If you click on the Smoke node and select Group Devices the nodes will be list in node Group order, just like buttons on a KPL.

Just for my own personal curiosity: How have you integrated the smoke bridge to your Insteon network to do what besides turn on a few lights?

I am always interested to see what others are doing and through those ideas compliment the same or similar.
