ISY File Backup

I am running Safari 7.0.2 in OS Mavericks. When I try to do an ISY File Backup I get the message, "Could not create the ZIP File". I went to Security>Java>www.universal-devices.com>allow to stop any sandboxing. I still cannot create a backup. I am getting anxious because I have a lot of work and money invested at this point and I would hate to lose it.

Can you try with Firefox or Chrome? I'm using Firefox 28 on Mavericks 10.9.2 and backups are working for me.

I really think it might be worth giving Firefox or Chrome a try. You can always delete the app later if you don/t want to keep it.

Did you note my comment about deleting the JAVA cache as others had suggested. Now, I can no longer open the admin console. Can you help?

Others here have had the same issue (both with backup and console access) and reported that Firefox works where Safari doesn't. The link to another thread that I posted above may resolve your Safari issue - I haven't tested it myself since Firefox is my primary browser and it works for me. Chrome also has proven to work for me.

 

Try the fix from the other thread first with your Safari and see if that gets you going. If not, try either Firefox or Chrome.

My console access worked perfectly until I cleared the JAVA cache. What do you think about me doing this:

 

Open System Preferences and double click the Java icon.

In the Java preferences, click the security tab.

Click “Edit Site Listâ€

Click “Add†and enter the URL for your ISY.

Acknowledge the warning that this poses a security risk by clicking “Continueâ€

Click “OK†then “OK†and close the Java preferences window.

 

At this moment I just want to regain access.

That may fix the problem *if* your running less than 4.1.2 firmware on the ISY. Otherwise that should make no difference. Did you look at that other thread about Safari?

 

Do you get any error messages when you attempt to open the console?

Yes, I tried that thread before I emptied my JAVA cache. For the time being, I would like to place the file backup issue aside. Something happened that adversely effected my ability to run the ISY Administrative Console JAVA app. I am searching for what I must do to regain that ability. Something was obviously cleared from the cache that the app needed to run.

I Tried both my internal IP and my external IP---nothing.

 

Is there any way I can reinstall the app in JAVA without losing all my work?

Yes. All of your stuff is still in the ISY. You haven't lost anything.

 

We just need to get you back into the admin.

I agree, but w/o the admin console I am stuck and I have more devices to set up.

 

I downloaded Java 7 again and reinstalled. That didn't help either. How does the Java applet that runs the admin console get passed along to Java? Can that step be reinitiated somehow?

All better. Solution was to un-check "Automatically Open Downloads" in Safari to get the jnlp file downloaded, then add the ISY's IP address to the exclusion list in the Java security tab.
