ISY-99i vs. ELK-M1XEP

I'm a noob, just beginning to install my M1Gold System. Ordered it months ago, just getting around to installing. I've assembled all the pieces, and the instruction manual, while difficult, seems to not mention anything about how the ISY-99i should be integrated into the control board of the M1Gold.

And from what I have read, the M1XEP seems to be what they suggest for interfacing to the internet. And it seems that the ISY-99i is doing the same job as the M1XEP.

Is there a diagram showing how the ISY-99i is wired into the control panel?

The ISY is not wired into the Elk control. Tthe ISY and the XEP both talk Ethernet, so they both just plug into your local network.

 

I don't recall that Elk has much documentation about the ISY, so just follow the ISY docs about getting things configured to talk to each other. I strongly suggest getting the elk module purchased/activated within your ISY.

No. The m1xep is necessary to connect your Elk to your intranet/internet. The ISY is connected to your intranet/internet. The two use those connections to communicate via IP. There is no other connection between ISY and Elk.

One more question about the ISY and the M1XEP, in my ELK M1Gold package there seems to be only 1 power supply but the ISY-99i instructions say if I'm using the2413S PLM, which I am, then I must use a power supply for that too? So my question is do I use the included power supply on the M1EXP, or the ISY, or do I have to purchase another power supply and use one for each?

I have no idea what power supply they gave you. Probably the one for the Elk. They aren't the same power supply. Elk uses 16vac, ISY uses DC voltage (it accepts a range of voltages).

If I remember correctly, the Elk M1XEP and the ISY both come with there own power supply. Both of them should be used.

I've got everything wired/hooked up and powered on. Now I've got the keypad enrolled, and its telling me to hook up up the battery, and OUTPUT 2 TROUBLE.

 

But my immediate concern is that I have a LampLinc dimmer module and a lamp plugged into it but the Universal Administrative Device Console doesn't show the Lamplinc module

(btw, if this is not the right forum for this please let me know)

If you are not using Output 2 you need to install an EOL resister on Output 2.

As mentioned, you have to hook something up to output 2. Output 2 is the siren and Elk is going to assume that having no siren means someone tampered with your system.

Thanks to DennisC and apostolakisl. I had a little trouble enrolling the LampLinc(had to figure what the device address was); and I will install a resistor on OUTPUT2. Thanks again guys! I'm about to start having fun!
