Steigs Posted July 24, 2014 Posted July 24, 2014 Hi Guys, would you consider changing the minimum length of a search string from 4 characters to 3 characters? It makes it hard to look for instances of things like ISY, PLM, 994, DON, ACK, etc, on their own. Thanks!
Mark H Posted July 26, 2014 Posted July 26, 2014 I believe that can be done easily, yes, and will discuss that with the UDI Staff. Thank you for the feedback. Mark
LeeG Posted July 26, 2014 Posted July 26, 2014 The problem is going to be the result. Think of how many hundreds of hits a search for PLM will result in. Same with any of the 3 character terms mentioned. As much as one might think how good it would be to search on ACK I am certain no one is going to read the hundreds of hits that search will produce.
Steigs Posted July 27, 2014 Author Posted July 27, 2014 The problem is going to be the result. Think of how many hundreds of hits a search for PLM will result in. Sometimes I'd like to see all those results and then whittle down from there. Just because the engine will take 3 letters, that doesn't mean it's all you have to use.

Michel Kohanim Posted August 15, 2014 Posted August 15, 2014 Hello ravedog, I am so very sorry for the delay. We tried this and the results turned out to be nonsensical ... for MAC try MAC ISY. With kind regards, Michel
ravedog Posted August 15, 2014 Posted August 15, 2014 The thing is the limit of 4 is not great when search for say the word Mac. Most people don't use Macintosh. And adding other words to pad the field to bring up the character count defeats the point of searching for a specific term.
ravedog Posted August 16, 2014 Posted August 16, 2014 Beat me to the fix results! Woohoo! My work here is done.
