In-Linelinc briefly turns on, then off

Recommended Posts

I have an in-linelinc w/sense hooked up to a flood light.

It does turn on when there is movement, and immediately turns off after a second. I never was able to find what is happening. There is no programs or scenes touching this device. It used to be part of a scene with a kp button, but I removed it for troubleshooting purposes.

The event viewer just shows this:

sam. 08/16/2014 21:12:02 : [ 17 12 D1 1] DON 0
sam. 08/16/2014 21:12:02 : [ 17 12 D1 1] ST 255
sam. 08/16/2014 21:12:03 : [ 17 12 D1 1] DOF 0
sam. 08/16/2014 21:12:03 : [ 17 12 D1 1] ST 0

If I log device communication events, here's the details that I get:

Any clue about what is happening?

Thanks,

Benoit.

Difficult to search for technical data for a "flood light with built in Sensor".

The non-Insteon sensors I have used had a test mode that would have motion turn On the load and then immediately turn it Off.  It was used to test the location and range of the motion sensor.   Are there different modes the motion sensor can operate in?

The flood light is a Heath Zenith SL-5718

On-time: Set to 5

Dual-Brite: Off

Lamp mode: Normal

Maybe one of the button is broken (but they look ok), or perhaps the sensor does not latch On, as it does not see a load?

The fact that Sensor is Dual Bright whether using it or not means the On signal is generated from electronics rather than a simple relay turning On.  It sounds like the voltage level of the Sensor On does not remain at a full 120 volts.  If you have a volt meter I would check the voltage on the Sense line coming from the motion sensor.

Hello LeeG,

FYI, I could not reliably measure the output - I think I'm due for a new meter.

I rewired the output from the sensor (red) directly to the lamps (red), bypassing entirely the inlinelinc. It now works as expected, meaning that it will be on for a few minutes. The bulbs seems to be at full brightness. But the output from the sensor may very well be below 110-120v.

Anyhow, I abandon... I think I will leave it as is. The only way I think I could make it work is to add a relay in this now very thight electrical box :-)

Thanks,

Benoit.

This sounds a lot like an issue I had doing the same thing a few years back.  The tight electrical box turned out to be the problem.  With everything packed into the box and closed up, one of the buttons on the IOLinc was being pressed.  I needed to tape a plastic water bottle cap over the button as a shield to solve the problem.  Does the setup work before you close up the box?

It had the same problem outside the box. But it could be due to the test mode, which behaves differently.
