mbrossart Posted August 25, 2014 Posted August 25, 2014 I'm not sure when this happened, but my climate module is no longer picking up data. When I go to Configuration | Climate, I notice my data is no longer updating. If I try to change my station by selecting Find and entering my zip code (95630), it returns zero results. It used to return several. For fun, I entered several Sacramento zip codes, still nothing. I am running behind a firewall, but I removed the firewall from my infrastructure and get the same results. Did the service get deprecated? Is there a new location I should be pointing to somehow? Anyone know anything about this module? Thanks.
LeeG Posted August 25, 2014 Posted August 25, 2014 (edited) Did you switch from WeatherBug to HAM? WB became fee based making a switch to HAM a requirement. Edited August 25, 2014 by LeeG
Techman Posted August 25, 2014 Posted August 25, 2014 Input a city name rather than a zipcode. You'll also need to have the latest ISY firmware.
mbrossart Posted August 25, 2014 Author Posted August 25, 2014 Thanks guys. That fixed it. Was there an announcement for the deprecation of WB? I must have missed it. I'm back on track thanks to you guys. Much appreciated.
Techman Posted August 25, 2014 Posted August 25, 2014 It was mentioned in the 4.2.5 firmware release. http://forum.universal-devices.com/topic/13501-release-425-rc-is-now-available/
dale heron Posted October 3, 2014 Posted October 3, 2014 So do I keep this working with my 99i. One of the main functions and reasons for purchasing was to control deicing machines based on local wind and temp. I answered all the questions for the ham, but it still does not go out and get the data. Or perhaps it does but does not store it. Dale
Techman Posted October 3, 2014 Posted October 3, 2014 You'll probably need to upgrade the 99i to a 994 as the 99i is no longer supported with firmware updates. The newer firmware for the 994 supports HamWeather which is where the climate module gets its data.
dale heron Posted October 3, 2014 Posted October 3, 2014 And what point will I be forced to re-purchase for a stand alone device that no longer is supported, again. You need to build devices that will continue to work unmodified, not requiring support, unless a user wants to change it. I paid extra for the weather/climate feature and can no longer use it. And if I had not found out it stopped working this summer would have incurred thousands in damage because it can no longer work. What if I had installed this for a customer? Sorry sir, the manufacturer changed how they do things so we are forced to charge you more for a device they no longer support.
LeeG Posted October 3, 2014 Posted October 3, 2014 The need to change to a different weather information provider was the result of WB starting to charge for the use of their APIs. Not something UDI initiated. UDI will have to confirm but I believe the underlying ISY firmware had to change to work with the HAM. Those changes cannot be rolled back to the 99i which was discontinued about 2 years ago, before the need to change weather source. I believe the 99i can be upgraded to a 994i for $99.
Michel Kohanim Posted October 3, 2014 Posted October 3, 2014 Hi LeeG, as always, 100% correct. Hi Dale, I am so very sorry that you have to go through this. Please note the following: 1. For those who do not wish to upgrade, we offer a full refund of the climate module ($49.00) 2. For those who upgrade, all modules are transferable free of charge http://wiki.universal-devices.com/index.php?title=ISY-994i_Series:Migrating_To_Your_ISY-994i With kind regards,Michel
ravedog Posted October 3, 2014 Posted October 3, 2014 I think I asked this before Michel but since you had code in there before for wb, is it possible to add support for WU and WB back in there and allow us to use our own API keys for those external Sevices, because honestly ham support will never be enough for some of us (location). Let the ISY parse the data and then we can use whatever the source. You already have the code for weatherbug, just roll it back in and offer choice. Just suggesting, but considering there are still issues with ham to this date, I think this idea might offer everything to everyone. I'll stop bitching now. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
Michel Kohanim Posted October 5, 2014 Posted October 5, 2014 Hi ravedog, Unfortunately not since WB completely changed their APIs so we will have to go through yet another development cycle with WB. And this will require licensing from WB (cannot do it below the radar). Apart from glitches that are slowly being fixed, what is it you need that's in WB and not in HAM? With kind regards,Michel
dale heron Posted October 7, 2014 Posted October 7, 2014 Michael, Thank you for your warm response. I am going to upgrade. Can I assume that all of my programs will easily transfer? I am sure good instructions are somewhere? Thanks again. Dale

Techman Posted October 7, 2014 Posted October 7, 2014 https://www.universal-devices.com/sales/ Scroll down to the bottom of the page. The upgrade is $99, or $149 for the pro unit.
