naPS Posted September 21, 2014 Posted September 21, 2014 I cancelled my Cox Home Security monitoring because it was a dumpster fire. As part of the initial installation, I had to purchase all the door and window sensors as well as a glass break and a couple of motion sensors. Cox took back the head unit, which was a SMC device. As far as I can tell from all the reading I've done, all the devices are Zigbee devices. I believe the door / window sensors I have are : http://www.openhome.io/deviceDetails?productId=59 Can I talk to these things? Will an ELK system talk to these things? Are they useless? Should I rip them off the doors and windows and start with something else?
Michel Kohanim Posted September 21, 2014 Posted September 21, 2014 Hi naPS, Unfortunately not since they are Zigbee. I am sorry. With kind regards, Michel
naPS Posted September 23, 2014 Author Posted September 23, 2014 (edited) edit : It says they are Zigbee modules - "MCT-320 SMA is a fully supervised, compact Zigbee door/window contact transmitter, designed primarily for protecting doors and windows. Suitable for any residential or commercial environment this low-profile transmitter gives the added advantage of a particularly small size that allows for highly flexible and virtually invisible installation. The MCT-320 SMA boasts impressive wireless range, while maintaining a long battery life." Original : Doh, that's a bummer. Guess I should start peeling these things off the windows and doors. For security integrations, is there a certain system I should stick with that works real well with the ISY? Edited September 23, 2014 by naPS
MWareman Posted September 23, 2014 Posted September 23, 2014 For security integrations, is there a certain system I should stick with that works real well with the ISY?[/size]With that as your only condition, no question the answer is Elk. I use it - and I'm very happy. Elk becomes a first class citizen in your ISY. However, DSC based systems can be integrated well as well using a RPI based bridge and dsclinc (http://forum.universal-devices.com/forum/40-dsclink/)
smokegrub Posted September 23, 2014 Posted September 23, 2014 I am confused. I thought that the ISY Zigbee module would provide for communication with Zigbee devices.
Michel Kohanim Posted September 23, 2014 Posted September 23, 2014 Hi smokegrub, Unfortunately unlike Z-Wave and INSTEON, Zigbee has probably has 100 different application flavors and some are proprietary. ISY supports only Zigbee devices that are listed here: https://www.universal-devices.com/commercial/isy-994i-z-series/ With kind regards, Michel
smokegrub Posted September 23, 2014 Posted September 23, 2014 Thanks, Michel. That is a key bit of information that should be brought front and center in the Zigbee Module description.
Michel Kohanim Posted September 23, 2014 Posted September 23, 2014 Hi smokegrub, Indeed we do: High Power Zigbee radio enables you to communicate with select Zigbee devices such as: RCS Zigbee thermostats and load controllers Brultech energy monitors UDI EM3 energy monitors With kind regards, Michel
smokegrub Posted September 23, 2014 Posted September 23, 2014 Thanks, Michel. I apologize. I overlooked that.
