skierdude Posted October 30, 2014 Posted October 30, 2014 I experienced an issue a couple weeks ago where I was out of town, and my wife called me to tell me that our bathroom lights were turning on and off, giving a strobe light effect. She said that the light switch would turn on and off and on and off, and it did this for over an hour until I told her to unplug and plug back in the isy994i unit, which solved the issue. Just now I thought I'd go back and see if I could find anything in the log, and sure enough, for the hour I found that every second the scene would turn on and off. What really concerns me about this situation is that if we were out of town for a long weekend, we could potentially have lights doing this for a prolonged period. Has anyone seen this? Is this a known issue with scenes. Are there any more detail logs that I might look at to identify the root cause? When this happened, I could not access the isy device remotely via Mobilinc. The purpose of the scene is just to keep the KPL in synch with the light switch. I was planning to setup other scenes to keep switches in synch with KPLs, but am now a little concerned. Here is an extract from the log file. Perhaps there needs to be a delay between the scene and the swicthing of the light switch? skierdude Posted October 30, 2014 Author Posted October 30, 2014 If Status 'Master Bath - Vanity Light' is 100%Then Set Scene 'Master Bath - Vanity' OnElse Set Scene 'Master Bath - Vanity' Off
stusviews Posted October 30, 2014 Posted October 30, 2014 If the light is on, then turn on the scene that also turns the light on which makes the status of the light on which turns the light on .... Else never happens. What is the goal of the program?
LeeG Posted October 30, 2014 Posted October 30, 2014 (edited) There are more parts to this puzzle. The "Set Scene 'xxxxx' On" can turn Off a Responder with a 0% On Level but a "Set Scene 'xxxxx' Off" can only turn the Responders Off. Something else besides the posted Program and Scene is turning On "Master Bath - Vanity Light Status 100%" Scene:Master Bath - Vanity Off 0 Thu 2014/10/16 11:16:07 PM Program Log (KPL) Master Bath - Vanity Lt Status 100% Thu 2014/10/16 11:16:07 PM System Log Master Bath - Vanity Light Status 100% Thu 2014/10/16 11:16:07 PM System Log Sorry for delay in getting back, my DSL has been down. Is Master Bath - Vanity Light a Dimmer? I'm wondering if a Program is getting confused if the device is manually set to some level that is not Off and not 100% Also what is the ISY Firmware level? Edited October 30, 2014 by LeeG
skierdude Posted October 31, 2014 Author Posted October 31, 2014 Yes this is a dimmer. The firmware is 4.0.5. I don't disagree with your comments; but how can I find out what else may have triggered this odd behavior? My biggest fear is that something similar happens when we are out of town, or my wife says that this platform is too unstable, and insists that we revert back to traditional light switches
LeeG Posted October 31, 2014 Posted October 31, 2014 (edited) It looks like another Program or group of Programs is running at the same time. Both the KPL button and the Vanity Light are being turned On to 100%. Look at the Program(s) you have created that work with these devices. Also since this activity is attempting to compensate for a marginal Insteon network resolving the powerline or coupling problems would eliminate the need for these Programs. skierdude Posted October 31, 2014 Author Posted October 31, 2014 The UI is currently at 4.2.18, it is the underlying firmware that I was referring to at 4.0.5. I only have two other programs, one turns on my hot water heater at 7AM, and the other turns it off at 11PM, and neither have anything to do with this light. As far as the program, I was told that this was the only way to get my KPL to update when I remotely turned on/off the vanity light. If there is another way to do this, please let me know. Also, is there a different way that I should check the state of the light and turn off? For example, if it is greater than 90% then turn on the KPL; or perhaps I am best to remove the dimmer and go with a switch. We have not had this problem since this one time, and hopefully it never happens again, but I'd love to figure out why it happened.
LeeG Posted October 31, 2014 Posted October 31, 2014 I was recommending updating the ISY Firmware from 4.0.5 to 4.2.18. I know of nothing specific in the 15 or so updates that affect this but 4.0.5 is pretty old. Turning a device On/Off directly does not affect other devices. Turn the ISY Scene that has the vanity light and KPL button On/Off to have both devices to react in sync. Something on your system is working with the KPL button and vanity light which produced the Blue messages.
