416to305 Posted November 28, 2014 Posted November 28, 2014 Hey everyone, So I decided to ditch the Vera and just get the Z-Wave module and external antenna and keep it all on the ISY instead of the network module with Vera even though that worked fine. The module was easy to install, but I have no idea how to do the antenna. There's a hole already in the front of the ISY which I assume is for it, but the antenna male end doesn't fit through it, it's too fat. So I detached the cable from the Z-Wave module and put it through from the outside to inside the case, but the external antenna is just sitting on the table now with the cable running back inside. I'll tape it on later or something, not a huge deal just couldn't find anywhere that explained what to do. Once you buy and activate the $1 Z-Wave module it pops up right away and is easy enough to use. Make sure to exclude devices first even if you exclude them from your old Z-Wave network first. A few of my devices just wouldn't add until I excluded first. Adding a device is super easy, click Z-Wave, add device, press the include button on the device and it adds. I have 4 wall switches, 2 GE outdoor plugin modules, and a Philio motion sensor. The motion sensor works great, shows temperature, luminance, and motion. So far everything works really well. The only drawbacks I have so far is with the motion sensor. When I first added it, it showed everything properly in Celsius, but after a minute it switched to Fahrenheit and has stayed there. I think there's a command to change it so will try that after. Also you can't run programs by light. So I can't say "If light level is under 20, turn the light on". The only option there is is temperature or motion. Other issue is MobiLinc was a waste of money as you can't control Z-Wave devices from it. They said they won't support it until UDI considers it final and not beta. Other than that so far so good!
Michel Kohanim Posted November 28, 2014 Posted November 28, 2014 Hi Lee, Thanks so very much for the update. I am so very sorry for the lack of instructions. You need to push/break through the perforated circle on the back of ISY and then push the male end of the antenna from inside to outside. There are two holes that you have to break ... one is for the LED. With kind regards, Michel
416to305 Posted November 29, 2014 Author Posted November 29, 2014 Thanks Michel! No worries at all it's not too hard. I'm not at home right now but I didn't see anywhere else that there was a perforated hole, just the one where the Z-Wave LED went through but will check again. I feel it might be hard to open it up again because it's a tight fit now, as I basically had to pull the case open so that the LED would pop into place, so nervous I might break the LED trying to remove it. Will check and see, but if not it's not a huge deal to just tape it on with electric tape or what not, as it's in my entertainment unit so not like anyone sees it! Loving it so far though, definitely a good decision! Devices work just as they would on the Vera, turning on and off as soon as you request it on the ISY. I like that this is built in as well, not just some plug in that is letting it interface with the Vera or something else. Being native makes it feel more stable to me I think. The external antenna is good, but the range without it also seems pretty good, as the first few devices I added did so with no problem, and then I noticed I had the default "Internal Antenna" selected under antenna type. Happy so far!
416to305 Posted November 29, 2014 Author Posted November 29, 2014 Okay that worked was able to fix it. It's a bit awkward as the cable inside wants to go the opposite direction of the antenna. Hoping it didn't pop off while putting it back in the case. Is there any way to test that the external is working? I have it selected in the ISY as the antenna, not sure if it only appears as an option if it's connected, or if there's any real way to ensure it's working properly?
Guest Digger Posted November 29, 2014 Posted November 29, 2014 I have Zwave devices working with Mobilinc just fine. Did you try? I have switches, outlets, Tstat, Home Energy Monitor etc working here. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
416to305 Posted November 29, 2014 Author Posted November 29, 2014 Weird, all mine just say "Status only device" and I can't control it. When I searched online I found a few forums on MobiLinc's forum most recent from July I think it was saying they don't support the Z-Wave devices and other people saying the same thing. Did you do anything special to make them work? It shows me if it is on or off, but I can't control it.
Guest Digger Posted November 29, 2014 Posted November 29, 2014 I didnt do anything special that I know of. The devices can be controlled individually and also in scenes. Just tried a few and they work. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
416to305 Posted November 29, 2014 Author Posted November 29, 2014 Weird, no go for me. I select a Z-Wave switch and it just says: Status Only Device Status is 0% Module Options Dashboard Device I/O Advanced Options > Basement Stairs Address ZW006_1 Type 134
dbuss Posted November 29, 2014 Posted November 29, 2014 MobiLinc on my Android works with my Schlage locks and Linear garage door controllers. However the last I checked they did not support the Linear garage door controllers on my wife's iOS devices. The iOS version does support the Schlage locks.
416to305 Posted November 30, 2014 Author Posted November 30, 2014 I don't have door locks just Linear wall switches, GE outdoor plug in module, and a Philio motion sensor. The Linear switches and GE ones don't work at all on iOS for me. The motion sensor is messed up also, shows light level is 1300% and temperature is 7200F. So has 2 extra 0s.
dbuss Posted November 30, 2014 Posted November 30, 2014 It sounds like MobiLinc is going to be releasing an iOS update soon. Hopefully they will include more Z-Wave devices in that upgrade.
Mecheng70 Posted December 3, 2014 Posted December 3, 2014 I have at least 8 zwave GE switches and two zwave door locks that connected. They allow control from the mobilinc app and indicate status. Here is where my system gets weird. I have 7 Window / door sensors and 2 motion sensors. The two motion sensors and two of the window/door sensors will not include into the system. Of the 5 remaining Window sensors, they will not show up in the mobolinc app. I have contacted Wes about this and he is perplexed. Do all your devices show up in the app?
