Thermostat problem

I just setup the Thermostat that I got from Smarthome along with the Inteon module and it works great...with one exception: Two or three times a day it seems to lose its mind for a minute. The temperature reading goes to either 36 or 37 degree's, I haven't written down what the setpoint changes to. After a minute or so it goes back to normal.

I have mine setup similar to the way MikeB has his. I query it every 15 minutes to get status updates. I have it send me notifications when the temerature is below 50 or above 90 (so I get a notification everytime it screws up and loses its mind for a minute because the temperature reading goes to 36 or 37).

I was able to catch the display on the thing once when it happened, nothing unusual...just the temperature was reading 37 and I don't recall what the setpoint was.

Anyone seen this before? Perhaps a bad unit?

Thanks.

I would suspect a bad unit since the incorrect temperature shows on the thermostat unit itself. My gut would say its more likely a bad thermostat than the Insteon adapter, but you might want to call tech support - maybe its a common issue.

Good luck!

Yea, I think you are right. I will call them and see. It is worse now...happens quite a bit and nearly everytime you query it.

Thanks.

Smarthome agreed....they are sending a replacement thermostat and remote control module to...just for good measure!

Thanks.

I am also having a problem with my thermostat. Every once in a while, the setpoint returned for a query is 23º. The status reads out fine. There is also a third line returned from the query which I'm assuming is an error. Here are the three lines in my log:

Thermostat Fri 10/17/2008 01:45:07 PM System -2

Thermostat Status 62 Fri 10/17/2008 01:45:07 PM System Log

Thermostat Setpoint 23 Fri 10/17/2008 01:45:08 PM System Log

On the subsequent query, the setpoint is correct. I have never seen anything weird on the stat display.

Hello jamesx0,

I think the first line is the clue: -2 means device communications error. Therefore, ISY is having difficulties querying the thermostat. If this happens a lot, then I would suspect that your AccessPoint is not close enough to your thermostat.

With kind regards,

Michel

Is there a reason that the setpoint defaults to 23 when there is an error?

Hello jamesx0,

The reason is that ISY tries failing requests three times. So, you got -2 the first time and the second time actually we got a garbled message.

Michel
