shannong Posted February 2, 2015 Posted February 2, 2015 Agreed, I used what SH provided and the buttons were perfect (I used all upper case). Can you attach to this thread?
Scyto Posted February 2, 2015 Posted February 2, 2015 Perhaps I am dumb, why do you need a template and can't use the form on the site? http://www.smarthome.com/insteon-2401c8-custom-etched-8-button-set-for-keypadlinc.html Is it because you don't want centered text?
Teken Posted February 2, 2015 Posted February 2, 2015 (edited) Can you attach to this thread? Sure, here you go: http://www.smarthome.com/insteon-2401clb-6-or-8-button-change-kit-for-keypadlinc-clear.html There is another one with just dotted lines but I am trying to find it. Are you saying there's a template to print buttons to be found at the link you provided? I don't see any template on that page. We're not looking to order buttons but rather use a template to print our own labels to use with the clear buttons.
EricK Posted February 2, 2015 Posted February 2, 2015 There used to be a template but I cannot find a copy of this, although I still have some sheets that I printed with it. Really you just need to use word to print your own. The boxes on the template can help to cut the label out. I recently printed some labels using Avery clear labels, although I cannot find the font that I used. Font type and size is the key issue. If you are going to do the entire keypad then just use something that looks good to you. Use all caps. I'll keep looking for the actual template but I think I deleted it.

Yeah, I looked for about 45 minutes but could not reference the link. Its probably been removed since the whole SH revamp of their site. Lots of dead and invalid links now. Back in the day each KPL clear order came out with a template inside.
EricK Posted February 2, 2015 Posted February 2, 2015 I don't recommend anyone download files but check here: http://www.thegatesofdawn.ca/wordpress/posts/2011/09/11/keypadlinc-button-label-template/

Scyto Posted February 2, 2015 Posted February 2, 2015 I already made my own Excel template. awesome, could you put a link to it in your signature?
MWareman Posted February 3, 2015 Posted February 3, 2015 Here is a link to the Word template: http://cache-m2.smarthome.com/manuals/12063_template.doc
stusviews Posted February 3, 2015 Posted February 3, 2015 Great job, thanks. A suggested instruction: be careful removing the label to avoid scratching the plastic. You know how I know BTW, I'm a Word Perfect person, but keep a copy of Word for excellent work such as yours. Thanks, again.
shannong Posted February 3, 2015 Posted February 3, 2015 It's worth noting that if you want your printed labels to match the lettering on stock buttons (and custom) you'll need to install the Futura font on your PC even if you're using the Word template. The Futura font (.tff file) is in the zip file I attached earlier in this post.
shannong Posted February 6, 2015 Posted February 6, 2015 I downloaded the Word '97 template and updated it to Word 2013. I slightly modified the sizes to fit the buttons better which probably shifted a bit with the version change, and I'm sure each printer is a bit different. I also updated the instructions to be more helpful and succinct. It's attached to this post in a zip file along with the Futura font.
bcsh Posted February 8, 2015 Posted February 8, 2015 (edited) Hey everyone this is more of an electrical question but I just had a quick question that I figured someone here would know. In my bathroom I have a keypad in there and there is a separate switch which is for the shower. I just have an Insteon LED bald in there currently as I had a spare. It's been nice having it come on at the same time as the main light and so on. Problem of course is that it is easy to accidentally turn the shower switch off and then of course the ISY cannot control it. Is it safe or possible to use a marette and just bundle the white and black that goes into that switch to gather and talked about behind the switch basically disabling the manual switch? That way the load is always on and it is controlled by the ISY etc? Or is that typically against code? Thanks! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Yes you can put steady power to the shower pot light. Do this safely there are plenty of videos on youtube. But long story short turn off your breaker so there is no power in the switch, then open it up and the switch should only have two wires going into it. If this is true marette those wires together and you should have steady power to the light. Edited February 8, 2015 by bcsh
lilyoyo1 Posted February 24, 2015 Posted February 24, 2015 I use mostly 8 button KPL's in my home with custom etched buttons. I try to set my scenes on the buttons so that they are clear and concise. I let the automation aspect of things happen on the behind the scenes. Double taps provide extended features that me and my fiance use but not are not necessary for everyday use or for a visitor to need. For example, in our main bathroom, dbl tapping the main button off will shut off the fan and the light. A person visiting would not know that but at the same time, they can simply hit the fan button. I have switched out my bulbs and started using hue bulbs. Throughout my house, I put the same button controls in the same places. The Main button is always in the same spot, rooms with Lamps is marked Lamps with it next to the main button. Scenes start the next level and so forth. I try to keep the important functions at the top so your not digging through buttons to do a simple action. If the room has a second keypad, I generally will put secondary actions on that. For example, my 2nd kpl in the bedroom has the ceiling fan, hvac presets, etc on it. They are clearly labeled so if you were in the room, even as a visitor you would know what they controlled. Once again standard use is clearly labeled. Secondary use from a double tap is not but generally those are things that happen automatically. For example, my phone chargers button will turn on the chargers manually (i have it on timers also) Double tapping the same button will also turn on the charger for my remote; should that be needed outside of it's timer.
