Target Canada will fold and they will take their tale between their legs and limp back across the 49th parallel. This is not a shock to me or to any of us who have watched many so called American companies trying to make a good go in the Canadian market place. Some of the winners, and those who have at least some common sense. Have offered similar products at reasonable prices such as Walmart, Home Depot, Lowes, Ikea, etc. Prior to Targets arrival I along with a few other fortunate customers were given a chance to ask the vendor (Target) what their plans were?? My first question was *Is this going to be a real Target* or will this be some [censored] off shoot that is so commonly seen in Canada. Such as Circuit City (Radio Shack), Best Buys, etc. Their reply was *Yes, this will be a full on Target and will carry thousands of the same items* Really?? Thousands?? Anyone who has entered into any Target in Canada can safely state it wasn't thousands, empty racks, isles, prices 1-2 times more expensive which you could walk across to Walmart, Super Value, name your store and get it lower. For two years most of us just watched this company hobble, stumble, and fall. One would have to ask who is running this Gong Show? Why would you purchase hundreds of stores only to stock them 1/4 of the way?? Why would you even consider selling your piss poor wares at 10-30% more than your direct competitors?? This company is exactly like KMART, Sears, and similar that really just need to burn down to the ground and go away. They have zero business sense, no management skill, and truly no common sense. In one market they literally built a massive two story building and two months later decided to fold and leave?? Why would you even consider building such a massive building which costs you millions to build only to leave, are your stupid?? Then again this is the same company who let tens of millions of peoples credit card information be hacked and didn't do much to help the consumer(s). The only saving grace was the fool who ran the show stepped down and left. This only made it worse because the next fool was in line and didn't even stop to think. *Where am I spending my money* *What does the market you entered want to see and buy* *Are we pricing ourselves out of reach with what the market has now* *Are we even stocking the freaking shelves* At the end of the day its a sad story to see so many good hard working folks lose their jobs again. As this company took over Zellers before assuming the Target role. This is a perfect example of being big, stupid, and not having a real business plan. Being big is no guarantee you will be successful in any market if you don't know business 101. I am happy they are going away because they had little to offer anyone besides a pay check. I also can't understand why you would sell scotties toilet tissue 20% more than the Walmart across the street? This pretty much applied across the board in every department they had running. At one moment there was dozens of employees roaming the isles, later it was three in the entire store not including (1) single cashier??? Lack of ACCOUNTABILITY and Reward for INCOMPENTCY will be our DEMISE SELF DESTRUCTION Yes, corporate America seems to like to reward those who are truly incompetent, thieving, and unskilled. I always find it ironic those on the bottom are held to such a high standard. Yet the fools at the top never seem to be held to the same levels and standards all of the foot soldiers are?? The smart thing to do would have been to come into (name your market) and do a trial. See how sales are, ask the local consumers about their experience and see how the competitors stock and price their wares. This is basic market research 101, any fool in grade ten took economics and knows this . . . Even though we don't have 80% of the items I see at the *Super Walmarts across the 49th parallel. They do bring in random items from time to time that isn't common in other stores. Their over all prices are fair and competitive and their 24 hour store hours are really great for those who need the hours to do their shopping like those who work nights, evenings, week ends. Even though I would like to see more selection at Lowes / HD, they too carry lots of staple products and prices are reasonable over all. Target Canada, good riddance . . .
