Using the 8 button keypad to monitor the garage door open status?

I am able to open and close the door but the button on the keypad linc only lights up when the door is opening or closing but not when it stays open or close.  I want the light on the keypad to light up when the door is open.  I created a scene and added the keypad button as a controller and garage door relay is in the scene as Responder and the garage door sensor is in the scene as a controller.  Should this be reversed?

I think you also need to set the button to non toggle on mode as well.

When the door is closed the sensor is on.  How do you change it?

The best way is to use a NO or dual switch (SECO-LARM SM-226L-3).  The SM-226L-3 was shipped with the I/O Linc in the beginning before changing to the NC switch.

I simply answered your question for changing the Sensor state.  You can always Program to the current situation.  

 

There is a Trigger Reverse option that changes the command sent.  It does not change the actual Sensor.  The problem with using Trigger Reverse is the 3AM Query changes the Sensor state to its actual value, not the Trigger Reverse value.

Attached is a screen shot of my sensor options.  Is everything set the way it should be?  And I have NON Toggle ON for the keypad and it will open the door but not close it.

 

This is what I want to achieve

• Open and close the door with 1 button on the keypad
• Have that button light up and stay lit if the door is open

The momentary hold time applies to the Relay only.

 

Use Momentary B.

Set Scene 'xxxx' Off

where Scene xxxx has Keypad button as Responder.  As door reaches closed position the Sensor turns On triggering the Program to turn Keypad button Off

I had the same issue and purchased the three wire sensor, works better.

I think you can do this:

Create a scene with just the Kpl button as a responder, garage door Kpl button

Write a program:

If garage door sensor is not on (off)

Then set scene garage door Kpl button on.

 

I think you can make the else:

Set scene garage door Kpl button off.

 

You may need a wait of a few seconds as the first line of the then to allow insteon traffics from a Kpl button press to clear. Discuss.

I would not change the behavior of the Kpl buttons as far as the toggle mode. I like the way you have it, press the button and the light flashes, Kpl button off. Then my program, the opposite of Lees will turn the button on to indicate the door is open. 6 of one 1/2 dozen of the other.

I was assuming all this could be done with simply using a scene.  From im understanding from the replies, I should be doing a program instead.

It can be done with a Scene if the magnetic switch is changed.  Otherwise the Sensor On when door is closed requires a program.

But no way of reversing the light notification on the keypad linc?  Not just for my purposes of reversing the garage light indicator but what if people want to have there whole panel lit so in the dark you can see what your pushing then the backlight turns off when the light is on?  Or better yet would it be possible to have the whole panel dimly lit and when you turn on a light the button becomes brighter?

I tend to prefer the approach to use scenes only, non-toggle-ON button, with the sensor turning the button OFF when the door is closed.  Using this approach, there is only one way for the button to be off...that is, for the door to be closed.  There are several ways that a button can be ON...Comm problems could result in the KPL being ON.  Pressing the button will result in the KPL being ON.  This results in more uncertainty.

 

The benefit of this approach in my mind is a higher level of confidence that when the KPL is OFF, the door IS closed. It is more important to me to KNOW when the door is closed.

If one assumes the the way you want it is "right", then yes.  (For the record, I happen to think the way you want it is the best way.) 

 

The sad part is that the three-wire sensor used to be standard-issue with the garage kit.  Why smarthome changed it is beyond my comprehension.

Yes, the KPL backlighting can be configured as you suggest.  Backlighting levels for ON and OFF states are adjustable, to some degree.

All my KeypadLincs/Keypad Dimmer buttons are dimly lite when Off and brighter when On. The Backlight level (which applies to all buttons) can be adjusted if you have devices that do not have that combination.

Suggest reading the device Owner's Manual about the device capability. The Backlight level can be set with the device or with the ISY.

If you want the Off Keypad button press to move the door the Relay has to react to an Off command.

 

Does not matter that the button is set for non toggle On mode. When the button is turned Off, which normally does not happen with a non toggle On mode button, it changes the command sent when button is pressed. When the button is turned Off the Keypad will send an Off command when pressed.

Nope, momentary B. The Keypad button is set to non-toggle On. In the event that the button is out of sync with the garage door, pressing the button once will still open the garage door and re-sync the state of the button.

 

BTW, I have a red diffuser behind the button.

Ok I have two programs for this I have attached screenshots.  My Overhead Garage door relay  is set to Momentary B and in the options for my keypad button is set to Non Toggle [On]

 

The result is the garage door opens and closes with one button push each but the light only stays on when the door is closed

A program is not needed, only a scene. The button and the sensor are controllers and the relay is a responder. Trigger reverse should fix the LED problem. Or either a 3-wire or NC magnetic contact switch.

I thought you cant do a scene without having the 3 wire magnetic switch?  How do I reverse the trigger?
