ISY994 and Elk M1 - adding Z-wave for thermostat and door locks

I am really getting tired with all the Insteon product failures.

So I am looking to add thermostats to my automation, and again research is showing not go insteon.

It looks like I can add a Z-wave module to my ISY.

Then I can add Z-wave thermosats and Door locks.

What options do I have to auto/unlock the door when known people are home?

Does Z-wave make something?

Elk Proxmity reader?

Rules to disarm alarm system and trigger the Z-wave door lock to open?

Rules to arm the Elk and lock the door(s) when leaving?

theedudenator,

Yes to all of them. In order to get full functionality with your M1, you'll want to purchase the Elk module. Once you have it  you can freely use all of the Elk resources in your programs to do what you want with other system nodes such as Locks, Lights, Elk outputs etc.

I caution on locking the door when leaving.

I do it - but best solution is to have a switch in the lock strike to ensure that the bolt fully extended. Or at least set the lock to send you a text or email if the bolt fails to deploy.

You don't want to get home to find out the lock failed to extend the bolt because the door wasn't properly and fully closed!

This is a mechanical issue - not an ISY / Elk / Zwave issue.

I already own the Elk module for ISY.

I need to look into better securement for the door also.

Is there a metal plate that is added around the dead bolt?

Grade 1 locks come with this, if not you will need to purchase a reinforcement plate.
