Not sure if the Best Buy Ad is a typo but no where on the Swann site or any review does it say it supports Z-Wave. All of them indicate Zigbee and WiFi so not sure I would put much faith in the advert.

I didn't mean to. I pasted the page after clicking on Specifications in the ad, but it reverted to the sales page. Anyway, selecting Specifications reveals Z-Wave compatibility.

I find it strange that Swann's site does not mention Z-Wave.

Understood but that is on the Best Buy web site. But no mention in any of the Swann official site, literature, or manual?

Two reviewers indicated only Zigbee / WiFi perhaps it's a typo or a newer version?

I was just wondering because the advert mentions Z-wave and Zigbee.

Would it even be possible to combine the two protocols in one device or make it too cost prohibitive? Or the two entities would not allow it.

Yes it's possible. The Wink Hub does it for $50.

WINK+AMAZON ECHO: JUST ASK TO CONTROL SMART PRODUCTS AROUND YOUR HOME

JULY 08, 2015 IN NEWS

Amazon lovers, you’re really going to like this one... Wink is now compatible with Amazon Echo!

If you’re not familiar, Echo is a product completely designed around your voice. It’s always ready; as you say the wake word—“Alexa” or “Amazon” (most people select “Alexa”)—it springs to life. Alexa is the cloud-based voice service that powers Echo--you can ask for information, play music, get the weather, and much more.

Starting today, Echo can also control a number of Wink-compatible lighting products from GE, Leviton, and Lutron. Here’s how to get started:

Connect compatible products in your Wink app and set individual names for each lighting product (bedroom lamp, kitchen light, etc.).

Then, link your Wink account to Echo within the Echo mobile app (Settings > Connected Home > Device Links > Wink).

From there, say “Alexa, discover new devices.” This can take up to 20 seconds.

After that, you’re all set up. You can then turn your smart products on or off in the blink of an eye with a simple voice command to Alexa. For example, you could say “Alexa, turn on the living room lamp ” or “Alexa, turn off the kitchen light.”

This integration gives Wink users like you yet another touchpoint through which you can easily control your smart home. And we’re just getting started! We’re excited to work with Amazon to add additional functionalities and many more Wink-compatible products down the road.

Does the Echo actually control devices directly?

I had two Wink Hubs and there was not one device it could directly control, at the time, when I returned them. It only talked WiFi to more bridges, despite it's seven hardware protocols built in. Loading the app again I see it still only talks to hubs on Hue, MiLights, and several others I tried.

I was really hoping to eliminate  half a dozen bridges in my HA system.

It just adds more layers and longer reaction times.

But does it work?

But does it work?

It kind of works. It has too many points of failure for me to depend on it.

It's a nice idea but the entire setup is flaky.

I haven't had the time to look but who is the actual maker of the *Wink HUB*? I always find it interesting to see products that are half baked gain so much market share and adoption from other related HA companies.

When you compare it to the likes of the ISY which is profoundly on the order of magnitude 100 times better. Yet these vendors never seem to get the same love or ability to add their wares for integration etc.
