If there is no lighting at all, the the PLM needs replacement. DO NOT EVER SELECT Delete PLM!!!

Unplug the PLM. After 10 or more seconds, plug it back in. Try while holding the set button and not holding. Still unlit? Try Amazon.

I tried rebooting as directed but it's not working? Do I just need to buy a new one or do I have steps to still try?

In the big picture you should purchase a new PLM. While you're waiting please do a search in the forums on the capacitor fix which has helped many here extend the service life of their PLM.

All in it comes out to be a under $15.00 fix depending on shipping costs etc.

If it is about two years or older. That is about when they start going bad. Mine died three months after the two year warranty expired.

I would also say get a new one. They are reported to have updated capacitors in them. That should be better.

If Stu's suggestion of cycling the power starts it going again. It is most likely close to total failure.

I got mine through Amazon.

When you replace your PLM.

There are exact steps to follow.

Power down the ISY controller and PLM.

Connect the serial cable from the ISY controller to the new PLM.

Power Up the new PLM first and let it initialize.

Then power up the iSY controller. So it will find the new PLM at power up.

Use the Restore Modem (PLM) choice. To have the new PLM's ID written into all of your Insteon devices.

If you have the Pro version you can delay writes to battery operated modules and then do each one individually.

Thanks guys. I'll order my new plm tonight. This is the second time this one has stopped so it's inlikely I'll get it fixed.

I would humbly suggest if you have the tools and some time to review the PLM repair guide and try your hand at the repair. This will at least provide you a secondary back up unit should it ever be required.

For the amount of time and money to bring back a unit its not a lot to invest plus you get a chance to fix something that you have satisfaction in knowing you got more life out of a product.

I wouldn't be surprised if this fix doesn't make a more robust unit than anything coming from the smarthome factory.

LOL, hold your tongue!

So I replaced the PLM today and within 3 hours, a Dimmer switch in my Dining room started blinking then Died. The light is still on the switch shows its turned off, but the switch is no responsive both locally, from an attached KPL and from the Computer. It seems like a strange coincidence of timing for the two to not be related in some way..

Any Ideas?

Hard reset the switch then do a device restore and let us know the results.
