Install a replacement 2413S

My Powerlinc 2413S is failing which appears to be quite common.  I ordered a new one. Can I simply plug the new one in when it gets here and update my ISY994i system with the new device address?  Is there anything else special to do? Thanks.

Can I put motion sensors, which are not in easily accessible locations, in programming mode from the Admin console?  Or do I really have to physically open them and press the button inside?

And I followed the instructions posted by paulbates above (followed the link to the wiki) and now my RemoteLinc's won't take the update when I put them in programming mode and tell the Admin console to Write updates to the device.  It goes through but the little 1011 icon is still in front of the device.  Does the same thing on both RemoteLincs and yet I have Remote Linc 2 that updated fine.  Ideas?

UPDATE: looks like it gets to 80% on status bar and then it quits.

Move the RemoteLinc further away from the PLM, place it in linking mode (hold both DIM and BRIGHT until the LED starts blinking), then start adding/updating to the ISY. I had to be more than 30 feet away. One RemoteLinc needed a distance of 45 feet.

BTW, dual-band devices were near the RemoteLincs. The key seems to be distance from the PLM.

Thanks. I moved them farther away and still no luck.  I did all my motion sensors from my office and they updated fine.  It's just my RemoteLinc's that won't update.  Do I have to delete them and re-add them?  Pain but I could do it I suppose.

Make sure you only have one wireless device at a time in the linking mode. The motion sensors need to be opened up and the button pressed in order to get them into linking mode.

I also try running the Diagnostics show device link table and it errors out saying Failed writing device link [-200000/-51] and Failed reading device link [-200000/-5].   Not sure if that helps or not.

Techman, the motion sensors are done.  It's just the RemoteLinc's now I am having issues with.

I had to move my original RemoteLincs  far away from the PLM. So the communications had to go thorough a different Dual Band device before I could update it.

How far away is the RemoteLinc from the PLM? How close to a dual-band device to the RemoteLinc? Are you trying with only one RemoteLinc at a time? Are you placing the RemoteLinc into linking mode first? The RemoteLinc will remain in linking mode for four minutes.

I was able to use, "Write Updates to Device." BTW, this is a know problem, but not everyone experiences it.

I put the RemoteLinc 1 at the opposite end of our ranch house as the PLM.  It finally did finish the Write Updates.  However, now none of the action buttons work.  Ugh again!

I put RemoteLinc 2 in the same spot and tried to update it and it still won't finish.  I never had this issue with the old PLM.

Should I try unplugging it and the ISY and start over?

Try a different distant location.  The old RemoteLinc RF signal and the newest PLMs have problems communicating.  As was mentioned before not everyone encounters the problem.   The solution has been to increase the distance between the RemoteLinc and the PLM.  The last RemoteLinc may need a different location than the other RemoteLinc.  Deleting the RemoleLinc and readding does not solve the problem.  If you have a basement try that or take the RemoteLinc outside being sure RemoteLinc is in linking mode.

Well I moved the RL to a different location and this time it worked.  It wrote the updates.  That's the good news.  The bad news is none of the 6 buttons work to turn on devices assigned to those buttons.  BUT if I press the ALL ON button, all devices controlled by the RL come on and ALL OFF turns them all off.  Progress I guess.  Now I need to figure out why buttons 1-6 don't work.   Suggestions on where to look?

Do you have any other controllers for the same scene(s)?

Do a Show Device Links Table for the RemoteLinc and post the display along with the new PLM Insteon address.

Note: the All On/Off does not use the link records in the RemoteLinc.

The Show Device Links Table will have the same comm issue that the Write Updates had.   The RemoteLinc has to be put into manual linking mode and the same location where the Write Updates worked.

Was the RemoteLinc Factory Reset while getting the Write Updates to work?   If so a Restore Device will be required to rebuild the link records erased by the Factory Reset.

Never mind.  Problem solved. Somehow the scene got removed from the button I was using to test on RL#2.  All is working now.  Whew!  Thanks for everyone's help.
