larryllix Posted August 16, 2015 Share Posted August 16, 2015 The reviews on the multicolour bulbs don't look too good from the kickstarter backers. Sounds like they have some huge design problems. Nice idea though, a WiFi controlled bulb, not needing a bridge. They just need to get the size down, the heat down and the cost down. Not for use in enclosed fixtures, if they will fit at all. vspete Posted August 19, 2015 Share Posted August 19, 2015 It is getting time to abandon Philips Pronto TSU7500 remotes for controlling my home theater/entertainment system including individual lights and scenes. These units are getting quite worn and require XP running in a virtual machine environment to update their programming. I have a Harmony Ultimate that is capable of controlling everything but the lighting (all Insteon devices). If I add a 2245-222 hub to gain lighting control using the harmony remote, will I have issues with the ISY which is currently linked to all Insteon devices in the home? I am very happy with the ISY capabilities including the smartphone features provided by MobiLinc Pro, but need a single remote solution for an elaborate entertainment system including lighting. paulbates Posted August 19, 2015 Share Posted August 19, 2015 Pete I used a hub and ISY/PLM when migrating from Homeseer. It can be done, but requires that you manage devices separately in both PLMs. I tried it for a while, it worked, but eventually proved to be more trouble than it was worth (to me) However, I have a the Harmony Smart remote (non ultimate). It can generate the codes that Insteon IR linc receiver can receive. Depending how many devices you need to control with the remote, that may be the way to go. Then use ISY programs to fill in as where needed. If its installed in the cabinet with Harmony box, it will get the IR codes based on remote presses that way. That's how I would approach it. Thanks for any insight. I have a Harmony Ultimate and an ISY994i/IR Pro. If memory serves, the Harmony had all of the ISY "default" IR00x codes that are pre-programmed into the ISY IR database. It was very simple for me to add a "Lighting Controller" device to my Harmony remote and pick from the database of built-in ISY IR codes. I now have buttons on my Harmony remote that trigger Insteon scenes, sets my alarm, etc... Each requires a program that is triggered by an IR code being received by the ISY and then triggers the appropriate scene. (I realize this only helps if you have the IR module for the ISY.) Good point, I forgot about that, I have the IR model too. However I couldn't make use of it because the ISY needs to be in range, essentially the same cabinet, as the harmony box. Scottmichaelj Posted August 20, 2015 Author Share Posted August 20, 2015 Maybe look into using a wireless IR iTach device by Global Cache and just use the generic ir codes that the ISY can understand. For many years I used the Philips Pronto remotes but after moving into a new custom home I went with RTI remotes myself. I got tired of having to use and troubleshoot three devices to control my HA. IE Harmony to iTach to ISY. With RTI there is a 3rd party driver by Shaky so I can control the ISY direct via IP. Much nicer and 100% reliable. Harmony is nice but I dont have any real experience with using them, so cant help on that side. Edit: It also just dawned on me that if you dont mind using a touchscreen device maybe look at irule. It works on both Apple and Android devices and will give you two way feedback, works over wifi (IP), and no other hardware to buy. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
