Scottmichaelj Posted October 7, 2015 Posted October 7, 2015 (edited) I just added my first Synchrolinc and adding the device went fine however when I click on the "options" button in the ISY admin console I get a "Request Failed" error. There is no prompt to click and hold the set button down till it flashes to enter the options and the manual only says to use the to set for "load sense" but that should be for outside the ISY. Is this truly a communication error or am I dong something wrong? I don't have any communication errors normally in my home so its strange this is happening so figure I must be doing something wrong. Any ideas? Thanks in advance for the help. EDIT: Added my log. Looks like there maybe a communication issue. The last two lines the HOPS=0. No error adding the device or removing it just changing the options. I plugged a filter on the synchrolinc for the item its attached too as well just to see if it helped and it didn't. LeeG Posted October 7, 2015 Posted October 7, 2015 Assuming the devices were Deleted from ISY, a File | Restore Modem (PLM) will rebuild PLM link database. If the devices were not Deleted, Delete them first (even though not physically available) and then Restore Modem (PLM).
Scottmichaelj Posted October 7, 2015 Author Posted October 7, 2015 Assuming the devices were Deleted from ISY, a File | Restore Modem (PLM) will rebuild PLM link database. If the devices were not Deleted, Delete them first (even though not physically available) and then Restore Modem (PLM). Thanks LeeG. What a PITA for two deleted devices. Now I have to put all my motions, water leak detectors, door sensors, etc in linking mode just to do a Restore Modem (PLM)! Just another "to do" for this weekend.
stusviews Posted October 7, 2015 Posted October 7, 2015 Remember to restore only one battery powered device at a time and also to take that device out of linking mode before restoring another. If you have a Pro version Restore Modem will go faster is you opt to NOT include battery powered devices during the restore (click on the icon, green is active, gray is not active).
LeeG Posted October 8, 2015 Posted October 8, 2015 A Restore Modem (PLM) should not affect anything other than PLM. The only time Restore Modem (PLM) affects all devices is when a new PLM is being installed.
Scottmichaelj Posted October 8, 2015 Author Posted October 8, 2015 So to be clear if I restore my PLM to clear the missing devices, I skip the battery devices? None of the "missing links" are from a battery device. If this is the case then that will be MUCH better!
LeeG Posted October 8, 2015 Posted October 8, 2015 Unless replacing the PLM the Restore Modem (PLM) only updates/writes the PLM link database. Should only take a few minutes or less depending on the number of devices and Scenes in use.

Should only take a few minutes or less depending on the number of devices and Scenes in use. So I removed the SL and then restored the PLM. Then added back to SL and can now can access the options without an error. The options are being saved and the SL light turns green/on and red/off as expected HOWEVER it does not seem like the SL is sending the actual on/off commands. Nothing is showing in the event viewer when it turns on/off. If I query the SL in the admin console then it shows the proper status. Is this a communication issue? I have two door sensors and two switchlincs in the same area that are working perfectly, so its strange just the SL is having a issue. Maybe its defective?
LeeG Posted October 10, 2015 Posted October 10, 2015 The door sensors are RF only so their path back to the PLM is different from SynchroLinc which is powerline only. If the SwitchLincs are Dual Band they could also have an RF path back to the PLM that the SynchroLinc does not have. I would start with the comm question first before think a bad SynchroLinc. Try moving the SynchroLinc near the PLM with some appliance plugged into SynchroLinc to see if status is reported.

Will report back this weekend my findings.
Scottmichaelj Posted October 14, 2015 Author Posted October 14, 2015 So I moved the SL to another plug and it works fine ON/OFF - so the SL is not defective or the issue. So it must be a communication issue where its plugged into. Not sure how or if I can actually fix it so I may have to just forget the whole idea. I can query it fine but the state is not being switched ON/OFF when the device is changing. This is hooked up to an electronic thermostatic valve so I can't move it to another plug etc. Here is my log when I query the device. The SL address = 19.8F.A7 - I put a filter on it as well without success. Anyone have ideas? I need it to control an exhaust fan so a "X" min query program won't really work well for this situation. Anyone have any thoughts? LeeG Posted October 14, 2015 Posted October 14, 2015 The Restore Modem (PLM) does not affect individual devices unless replacing the PLM. The Insteon required Controller link record for Group 1 is missing. The SynchroLinc cannot send On/Off messages to the PLM/ISY without that link. Right click on SynchroLinc and select Restore Device. Then look at the SynchroLinc link database again. There must be an E2 01 .......... link record in the SynchroLinc as shown in the link table I posted.

My shower is controlled by an electronic thermostatic valve and control panel. When I turn on the shower the SL will turn ON/OFF but I think my program logic is wrong.
