rafarataneneces Posted August 17, 2016 Posted August 17, 2016 Something like this On/Off module https://www.amazon.com/GE-12719-Wireless-Lighting-Appliance/dp/B0013V58HU
G W Posted August 17, 2016 Posted August 17, 2016 There is no starter kit. If you aren't going to take the advice given please stop asking. Best regards, Gary Funk
giesen Posted August 17, 2016 Posted August 17, 2016 The Aeotec SmartSwitch 6 plug in module seems to work as well.. Sent from my SM-N910W8 using Tapatalk

Sent from my SM-N910W8 using Tapatalk This wouldn't surprise me, though much less tested. If buying for the primary purpose of being a strong reliable node to strengthen a mesh, then I would suggest that the very well tested siren be considered for that purpose - even if you have no need for the siren element. Using anything else may work - but you equally risk investing in a device that does little for the problem at hand.
giesen Posted August 17, 2016 Posted August 17, 2016 I'm using the SS6 myself and seems to work. Although I'm sure the range is not as good as the siren. Added benefit is they have a USB outlet for charging a cell phone, so makes them a little more useful. No backup battery like the siren though (though I'm not sure if it repeats when running on battery) Sent from my SM-N910W8 using Tapatalk

Can you tell me why the siren seems to be recommend by you above useful z-wave devices? is it because it has magnets/metal lol I just want to know the explanation I'm going to buy this and see how it works, it seems useful https://www.amazon.com/Everspring-AN128-Z-Wave-Appliance-Module/dp/B00B8DOG0I
stusviews Posted August 17, 2016 Posted August 17, 2016 In most cases, if a metal box is installed, then the local code requires metal. For a switch-plate? OK, I'll complete the sentence..In most cases, if a metal box is installed, then the local code requires that the box be metal. Added: the switch (or receptacle or combination) plate can be virtually any material, brass, steel and wood are popular

The siren did. Others in the forum reported the same. At the end of the day, it's up to you what you get. Just offering you the benefit of my experience (and wasted money).

The Aeon Gen5 Siren has been proven to be effective or at least no one has reported that it's not.
giesen Posted August 17, 2016 Posted August 17, 2016 Not every Z-Wave device is an effective repeater or even a repeater at all. The Aeon Gen5 Siren has been proven to be effective or at least no one has reported that it's not. Also, many devices that are repeaters don't support beaming (which was an extension to the Z-Wave protocol) and some encrypted security modes (another extension). Most people looking for repeaters are looking for them for their battery powered door locks/deadbolts, and the siren is known to support all of it, as well as being an effective RF device. Hence the recommendation. Also, many Z-Wave manufacturers don't publish which extensions they support, or even if the device is a repeater; so once people find something that works, they flock to it. I don't know anything about any of the GE modules (or the Fibaro for that matter), but as already mentioned, Z-Wave is a mesh protocol and may require more than 1 repeater to get a reliable mesh. General consensus seems to be at least 3-5. But there are many factors involved, including types of devices, distance between them, building construction, etc. Sent from my SM-N910W8 using Tapatalk
