paulbates Posted December 6, 2015 Posted December 6, 2015 Microsoft Surprises With New Windows 10 Mobile Build Microsoft will stop adding features to Windows 10 Mobile in 2018
Teken Posted December 6, 2015 Posted December 6, 2015 Paul, I don't follow does all that mumbo jumbo mean Microsoft is abandoning their smart phone OS in 2018?
paulbates Posted December 6, 2015 Author Posted December 6, 2015 Hi Teken Good point & question. The article and the press release don't actually say that, but its classic EOL behaviors. The options are likely: They're getting out of the business - this doesn't seem to fit with what we've seen over the last few years They'll switch to an OS more based on the current W10 - possible. Remember RT? They closed the gap on ARM with W10, but?? They'll replace it with something else - not sure All of the effort with alljoyn, I have a hard time believing there is no mobile future in that. Paul

Paul Paul, I haven't kept up with the whole Alloyn program and curious if you know more. Has this protocol gained traction and mass adoption from small to large vendors? If so what has anyone done with it that the public can see and use now? Also as it relates to this article I've dealt with quite a few of their sun set platforms so have first hand knowledge and insight. But this whole lets buy Nokia was just another Steve Ballmer epic fail like the first iteration of Surface & RT. Time will tell if they decide to stick it out or go back to their core business which is services / software.
paulbates Posted December 6, 2015 Author Posted December 6, 2015 Teken Lots of industry type talk and excitement, but not sure what the product spectrum looks like. There is a story on the second page about a meeting in redmond in October, but not much substance. Lowe's seems to be the brick and mortar specter and are adding alljoyn to Iris. I go into Lowe's, and they have a cage full of IoT goodies by the CS desk, but haven't really dived in. I would love to talk to some one that used both Wink and Iris. Probably nice from a remote control point of view, but not sure about depth, or if they are homekit compatible. The articles I have seen still give Wink a nod. Maybe they'll be resuscitated after all. Paul
