fed Posted January 3, 2016 Posted January 3, 2016 Is there any way to validate that a device is paired in secure or plaintext mode?
Michel Kohanim Posted January 3, 2016 Posted January 3, 2016 Hi fed, Secure devices are always included in secure mode unless they are controllers (such as Vera) that support both. What you can do is to use Z-Wave | Secure Devices and uncheck "Allow secure ...". You should do this after you have included all your secured devices. With kind regards, Michel
fed Posted January 3, 2016 Author Posted January 3, 2016 Hi Michel, That actually opens up a couple of questions: 1) Does unchecking the "allow secure" box permanently disable the ability to add secure devices? 2) The Aeotec Multisensor 6 Gen 5 actually supports secure and non secure device modes. Unfortunately, according to the manual the way you pair the device will cause it to be in either encrypted/plaintext mode and it seems a little hokey - i.e. press the button twice quickly vs once... I'm looking for an indicator in the device query that I can eyeball or is there no indication from the zwave dongle? Cheers, Fed
Michel Kohanim Posted January 4, 2016 Posted January 4, 2016 Hi Fed, 1. Yes, it does and that's the whole purpose because, otherwise, a secure device can get a hold of your key 2. Have you looked at Right Mouse Click | Z-Wave | Show ... | All? With kind regards, Michel
fed Posted January 6, 2016 Author Posted January 6, 2016 Michel, I think I was a little hasty with how I phrased my previous question! When I say does it disable adding secure devices permanently, I meant to ask: Can I re-enable the ability to add secure devices without having to reconfigure the entire network (and re-associate the devices)? Regarding the "show all" option, I've enabled that and see a bit of information in the logs, but I haven't had the time to figure out what to dig for (I spent a lot of time working with 802.15.4, zigbee and others but little with z-wave). Is there a telltale indicator in the log (for instance, i'm familiar with the zwave security class but I'm not sure what to look for without digging at the spec). Thanks for the help! Cheers, Fed
Michel Kohanim Posted January 7, 2016 Posted January 7, 2016 Hi Fed, Yes you can re-enable. Unfortunately nothing without knowing the specs. With kind regards, Michel
fryfrog Posted January 9, 2016 Posted January 9, 2016 For that *one* specific device (multisensor 6), if you press the button it light up green if it is paired unsecure and blue if it is paired secure. Just setting off motion might do it too, but I haven't paid close attention and I re-paired all of mine in secure mode so they'd repeat for my locks. I swear when I was poking around in the UI, I was able to tell if they were paired in secure mode or not... but for the life of me, I can't remember how. It might have been watching the diagnostic log in level 3 output. :/
