Software-based Diagnostic Tool?

I found this posting on the Smarthome forum:

"The best Insteon signal analyzer is a laptop computer and the Diagnostics screen built into HouseLinc 2. It allows you to ping devices with both standard and extended messages and reports back both the success of the transmissions and the number of "hops" required for the signal to get through. If you see one area routinely needing multiple hops, you can then decide whether you would be better served by filtering or by adding an additional AccessPoint. You can also see if there is a lot of variation--if a bunch of signals get through on one hop, then several take three, you can use that intermittent nature of the interference to help track down the problem."

 

Is it possible to add some type of sniffer functionality to the Admin Console for identifying the source of communications errors with the ISY?

Yes, it's surely possible and it's on list. The only issue is that we "have to" make sure i2 works before we go any further.

I believe my new ApplianceLinc Modules have I2 in them. The SDK Shipping Products list indicated they where I2 enabled. Though how much is not known. I do know they are acting strange compared to the older ones. I removed. The new models handle my problem loads much better then the originals. They also seem to not always respond to a My Lighting On command.

I have LampLincs version 33 which are i2. I am also noticing strange behavior but only if it's part of a scene: once in a while, it just does not respond to scene commands.

 

When I check the device table vs. ISY table, they are identical. When I restore it, it starts working again. I just cannot understand what would be causing this except, perhaps, a memory leak in the device itself.
