VRCS4-M0Z linked with ISY, control from secondary zwave controller?

Featured Replies

I understand that the VRCS4-M0Z isn't compatible with the ISY (because it's multichannel), but I noticed that it appears to show up on my Vera UI after I attempted to pair the device.  Note that my Vera is set as a secondary controller.  Is it possible that my Vera could allow me to control devices, even though the ISY doesn't support this particular device?  I'm not really sure how zwave primary and secondary devices relate, and if this is even feasible.

Thanks!

Awesome, thanks Michel!  So, I noticed that not all devices aren't getting sync'ed from my ISY to my Vera, so I'm attempting to exclude it and re-include it for troubleshooting purposes.  Oddly enough, a few devices are in there, but definitely not all of them.

Could you give me a little more detail as to the steps required for doing this?  Once my Vera is properly setup as a secondary controller to my ISY, would I then include the VRCS4 to my ISY and watch it get sync'ed to my Vera?  Or would I include it from my Vera?

Thanks!

Hi jon102034050,

If they are not showing up, something is wrong. I am not familiar with Vera so what you need to do is to find the function that "imports existing network". For instance, in ISY, this is achieved by:

http://wiki.universal-devices.com/index.php?title=ISY_Z-Wave_GenII_-_Instructions#Importing_an_Existing_Z-Wave_Network

Once your Vera is secondary, then it does not matter where you include devices because the primary is in charge of node/id assignments.

With kind regards,

Michel

Thanks for the instructions - I was able to get the devices to show up in my Vera after removing it and re-adding it as a secondary controller (the import existing network was just timing out for some reason....).  Now the only issue I'm having is with my crappy Vera, and getting it to actually run scenes when the buttons are pressed  :)

I'm going to quote a forum response from another forum because I found out what was going on there. Basically, I thought that the zwave was getting paired to my  ISY OK because the pairing prompt was disappearing, but no device was showing up (I just figured because its a multi-function device, this was how it would show up...).  I had to exclude it and include it with the following steps (note, this was performed with a Vera, the same steps apply for an ISY):

I remember it was tricky as you needed to initiate the include/exclude process on the device first BEFORE initiating on the vera.  I also remember having to leave the vera near the controller for a few minutes after including with low power.  I bet that is your solution
Do as follows
Reset the controller first to be safe
Hold 1&3 for 10 seconds (will flash amber then red) release buttons.  Controller should be reset.

Bring vera within a couple feet
Press and hold button 1 and 3
After controller is flashing amber let go.
Go to vera and place in exclude mode.
After exclusion hold button 1&3
Controller should be flashing amber  again
Go to low power include.
Should find device and add...  wait another 5 minutes before moving vera.

After including it to the ISY in this manner, I was able to make my Vera a secondary controller, and the VRCS4 showed up just fine in my Vera interface.  I'm then able to create scenes with it using the Vera (rather than my ISY).  Hopefully this may help somebody in the future, it took me a very long time to figure this out, but it's cool it works as anticipated now!  Again, thanks Michel, I really appreciate the help!

I'm trying to do basically the same thing as posted above, except I'm trying to add a GE Keypad Controller, Model ZW5301.  This is a Secondary Controller Only which supports:

  1. Basic ZWAVE Command Set
  2. Binary Switch Command Class
  3. Controller Replication Command Class
  4. Multi-Level Switch Version 1 Command Class

When using Basic Command Class to control devices the controller will either transmit a value of 0 or 99, depending on the button Pressed.

The instructions say I'm to put the Primary Controller into Transfer Mode so it sends information to the Secondary Controller.  I looked at the Wiki and Posts above and can't seem to find that mode.  Unless, you use "Learn Mode"? But, that seems to be wanting to Learn from the Secondary Controller, not the other way around.

I was able to include the device, and it shows up as a Remote Switch, but I can't do anything with from there.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.  I'm using FW 4.3.26.
