Teken Posted January 15, 2016 Posted January 15, 2016 A few weeks back there was a discussion about how other companies have come up with new products not currently made or shipping by Smartlabs. One of the items mentioned as a possible product was the Insteon enabled door bell. While the Z-Wave camp has already released such a beast by the Aeotec company as seen here: http://aeotec.com/z-wave-doorbell Another product which some new comers have found out the hard way is a method to bridge a smoke alarm while offering Insteon capability. Smartlabs has already released the Smoke Bridge: http://www.smarthome.com/insteon-2982-222-smoke-bridge.html Which integrates quite well with the First Alert One Link smoke / co detectors in various flavors such as: Hardwired Smoke, battery only smoke / co: http://www.costco.ca/First-Alert%C2%AE-OneLink%E2%84%A2-Wireless-Alarms.product.10324439.html First Alert has most recently also released many new products all under the One Link banner. This has confused quite a few people into thinking these devices are supported by the Insteon Smoke Bridge. It doesn't, nor does the obvious Z-Wave enabled One Link smoke / co detector with the Smoke Bridge. First Alert has recently released the WiFi, BLE, Apple Home Kit smoke / co detector which you can see here: http://www.firstalert.com/site_content/item/1098-onelink-wi-fi-smoke-carbonmonoxide Again, this device can not use the Insteon Smoke Bridge as it does not use the 915 Mhz frequency band as seen on the other units. So what does this have to do with the D-Link DCH-165? This little device simply plugs into any 120 VAC outlet and can be programmed to listen to the frequency sounds from a smoke / co alarm system. Essentially it will allow a person using any brand of dumb smoke detector to enable push notification and awareness. It goes with out saying this method does not supersede the need and requirement that the smoke / co detector be wired & monitored by a certified CS security alarm company. Regardless of the above one of the cool additional features is that this little device can be programmed to listen to other sound signatures! You guessed it, it can be programmed to listen to the door bell, broken glass, etc. This is coupled to the use of IFTT service should the end user wish or require it. I am not sure if this product has any kind of open API but if it does its safe to say that would be a great method to integrate with the 994 Series Controller to relay and control other Insteon devices in the home. Watch the demo video from the D-Link company here and perhaps this little device will offer that smart door bell integration some of us have been looking for: http://us.dlink.com/products/connected-home/smart-alarm-detector/
