Breaker tripped notification

With lots of arc fault and gfi breakers it sure would be nice if the isy would alert me if a breaker tripped. Not even looking for a fancy sensor on the panel; just if isy loses communication with one of my insteon or x10 devices let me know.

If there was an info tag associated with each device in the console that included the panel# breaker# and maybe even phase it would make tracking and alerting even easier. Maybe even a simple checkbox on each item to "alert if communication is lost"?

 

Sure would be great to get a text when a breaker pops rather than perhaps not knowing for hours or days.

If you have breakers popping on a regular basis, then you have a wiring problem that needs to be addressed. OTOH, if you are concerned about each and every circuit, then you would need a "notification" device connected to each circuit.

You have several methods from least to most expensive in terms of a solution. The system allows you to select the *Responding* option in a program. Next you have the ability to insert a note about a device and in your case you could indicate what breaker / phase its on.

 

With the above in place you simply need to create a program to watch for this condition and send out an alert. There are also many 3rd party energy monitoring devices such as the Brultech Green Eye Monitor. That if integrated with the 994 Series Controller would also let you see and know the energy levels of that circuit.

 

Regardless of all of the above if your home is seeing regular trips of the breaker(s). It goes with out saying either the devices are faulty or you have issues you need to identify and resolve.

 

Keeping in mind older GFCI / AFCI breakers have been known to trip due to Insteon power line signals. The only recourse if the problem is identified to be Insteon signal related is to change out the GFCI / AFCI breaker or outlets.

No they don't trip frequently; except for some outdoor circuits used for holiday lighting that trip gfcis when things get wet.

 

But I want to know when one does trip.

If they trip when the wiring gets wet then, as Stu posted, some wiring problems need to be addressed first.

 

Your GFCI breakers may also need to be replaced, after tripping several times.

Would still be nice if that was an automatic option per device in the administration console though.
