Newbie - Lost My Lighting in My Network Places

I installed my new ISY 99i, and everything went as planned. The My Lighting icon showed up in My Network Places, and I was able to access the unit via IP address.

I did a computer reboot, and My Lighting is gone. I can still access the ISY via universal-devices.com/99i, but not by the IP address.

Any suggestions on how to get the My Network Places link back? Do I need it for remote access? About 75% of the time, the program cannot find all the installed hardware. Does one problem have anything to do with the other?

Thanks for your Help!!

Hello Mr. Zulich,

What operating system are you running? If Vista, please do make sure that you have Network Discovery on. If XP, then please make sure you see "Hide UPnP ..." on your left navigation bar.

If you have communications problem with your devices, then I suspect noise. Is your PLM plugged into the same outlet as your computer, router, monitor, etc.? If so, you would want to put all those other devices on a FilterLinc.

With kind regards,

Michel

Thanks, Michael -

I'm running XP, the "Hide UPnP" is visible and , as mentioned above, the icon was originally there. I did find that the IP address changed, I need to figure out how to make it static .. I can now log in with the IP address, but still no icon in My Network Places ..

Also unable so far to enable internet access, but I'm hijacking my own thread.

Thanks

Windows Firewall probably opened a requester the first time you accessed the ISY.

The trouble now is that the ISY address has changed so it should appear as a new device. Unfortunately the old device is missing and this confuses your Network Neighborhood, and probably the firewall, because it has the same MAC address as the old link.

I used the router (D-Link) to always assign the ISY MAC address to the same IP address whenever it is rebooted.

I also noticed that some time ago McAfee snuck in an install of it's firewall. I know I had to change something there.

Hello Mr. Zulich,

Apologies for a tardy reply.

What version of ISY do you have? In your firewall, are you sure you have not blocked UPnP Framework?

With kind regards,

Michel

Thanks for all your kind replies .. I'm still working through it, but the system appears to function correctly without the icon, so I may just live with it for now until I know better what questions to ask.

Michael - I have v2.6.5

Happy Holidays to all!

Hello Al,

Thanks so very much for the update. You can always bookmark ISY's local IP address and thus you will never have to go to our website. But, for that to work flawlessly, you need to assign ISY a static IP address:

http://www.universal-devices.com/mwiki/ ... IP_Address

With kind regards,

Michel
