grahamk Posted February 13, 2016 Posted February 13, 2016 Does anyone know of a way to add a dummy device to the ISY that does nothing other than run a program when it is turned on or off? I'd like a device in my device list called "Kitchen 15" or similar that just runs a program to turn the kitchen light on to 15% dimmed. I am 100% zwave, no PLM. I can put it in the program list, but that confuses the wife. This is an end user request. Is there a good way to do this that anyone knows of? Thanks!
KeviNH Posted February 13, 2016 Posted February 13, 2016 Is this so the "device" appears in the WebUI, e.g. home automation dashboard? Or some other app? If you're running v5, you might be able to accomplish this with the node server and a custom node?
grahamk Posted February 13, 2016 Author Posted February 13, 2016 Yes - so it appears in the home automation dashboard - node server I'd be starting on square one. When i had an insteon PLM i was able to add X10 devices that had no function in the ISY other than to run programs, but i removed it and now I can't add X10 devices anymore......
danbutter Posted February 13, 2016 Posted February 13, 2016 If I understand what you are looking for I think this has been talked about before here: http://forum.universal-devices.com/topic/16474-virtual-device/

Seems you could do this by setting a scene to whatever level then call that program either with a button press or series of button press using a variable (if control switch is on then variable =+1, if variable =2 then...) MWareman Posted February 14, 2016 Posted February 14, 2016 I wonder if you added the X10 module if you could trigger programs from an X10 or/off command - since X10 is stateless. This would get a node into your device tree that you could trigger from.
larryllix Posted February 14, 2016 Posted February 14, 2016 A virtual device is easy to add. In ISY it's called a State Variable.

I might just buy another one to restore the ability to do this.

When i play around with them with my zwave devices is seems that all devices are responders and scenes are really aimed towards Insteon installations. I'm I wrong on this point? I'd be interested in using scenes, but I'm starting at square 1....
LeeG Posted February 14, 2016 Posted February 14, 2016 The ISY cannot communicate with Insteon or X10 without PLM. The ISY was not redesigned to support Insteon or X10 as virtual devices. Adding a PLM will restore ability to add Insteon (if it exists) and X10 which does not require/expect a response.

mwester Posted February 14, 2016 Posted February 14, 2016 Z-wave devices don't work in scenes for me (5.0.2 beta firmware). If you add them to a scene, and trigger the scene from the ISY admin GUI, then they'll turn on or off with the rest of the Insteon devices in that scene. But the Z-Wave members of a scene do not get triggered by the Insteon scene controllers. I suspect it's not-yet-completed functionality. It's easy enough to "fix" with a program.

Well then it seems zwave devices do function in scenes? If the OP were to place a single zwave switch in a scene set to x% the switch would respond to x% if the scene were to be directly linked to a button in the home automation dashboard? I can understand why locally mixed protocol doesn't work because insteon can't communicate with zwave. Jon...
Michel Kohanim Posted February 15, 2016 Posted February 15, 2016 Hi Jon, It does but not efficiently. Please wait for our next 5.0.x release. With kind regards, Michel
grahamk Posted February 19, 2016 Author Posted February 19, 2016 I am hoping i am missing something here but.... I created a scene with the zwave lights i am interested in adjusting. I would like to create a program that sets all lights in this scene to a set brightness - let's say 20%. When i go and try to program this I open the program window and as an action to an if statement I want to "adjust scene" and no scenes show up in the list. Should i see scenes here? The scenes contain nothing but z-wave devices.
