Raspberry Pi 3

Model 3 will definitely address most of the "shortcomings" of the previous Pi models (e.g. inability to drive a WiFi USB device directly), and make it a great host for the "Soft Console" among other HA projects.

  • A 1.2GHz 64-bit quad-core ARM Cortex-A53 CPU (~10x the performance of Raspberry Pi 1)
  • Integrated 802.11n wireless LAN and Bluetooth 4.1
  • Complete compatibility with Raspberry Pi 1 and 2
  • Ten times faster than the Pi 1!

What's great about Rpi is as it becomes more popular more and more innovation comes with it :)

It has more than critical mass, and that success breeds more capabilities and more Pi models

I ordered my Pi3B 2 days ago and am awaiting a shipping confirmation.  Looking forward to replacing my Pi1 dev platform with something a little snappier. I already have 2 Pi2Bs running IO tasks, Nodelink, ISYLink, Polyglot, WCLink at home.  Thinking of moving DHCP off of my Dunkin Donuts-WRT router to a Pi along with my WiFi proximity script.  This will give me better capabilities and hopefully faster response times on detection.

I see the new Pi3 has BTLE.  I'm hopeful I can make use of that for location detection within the house.
