ccclapp Posted March 10, 2016 Posted March 10, 2016 My Network Resources and Variables are getting out of hand. It would be great to have folders as an organizational tool! Thanks

larryllix Posted March 11, 2016 Posted March 11, 2016 One folder and/or tab I have requested several times is either self-defined folders or at least a Constant named variable type. I se many Integer type variables as constants to self document programs and also give a central value to be used throughout my ISY programs. example If $sHeat. On is $cTrue <------manually defined as value=1 and never changed. These could all exist in a Tab/Folder grouping arrangement also. Expanding the existing Integer and State tabs, rather than creating a new mechanism to handle folders, would probably work well for this application.
Chris Jahn Posted March 11, 2016 Posted March 11, 2016 We do intend to have scoped variables (either to a folder, category, or something like that) but its currently down on the priority list.

larryllix Posted March 11, 2016 Posted March 11, 2016 My view is, once parameters are implemented fully into Network resources, we won't need 1/10th as many NRs anyway. This will, however, increase the variable usage 10:1 and increase the need for groupings in the variables section.
stmrocket Posted March 11, 2016 Posted March 11, 2016 While scrolling through seemingly endless lists of variables and resources last night I was wishing this feature existed! +1 to both. Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk
larryllix Posted March 23, 2016 Posted March 23, 2016 I have come to another conclusion lately, for variable organisation. This may be too difficult to accomplish for UDI to arrange alignment with existing Rest inputs and programs to sync with numeric assignments behind the scenes. Create user-definable variable folders. Each variable has a pulldown select menu to declare it's type. ie: Integer, State, Constant, Future. Now we could have folders for a particular job or function with all it's variables in the user-named folder. We wouldn't have some State variables and some Integer variables in two different tabs for the same job. A User defined Tab might look something like this Tab = "House" Variable Init to Value Prec. Int. State Const. Other -------- ------- ----- ----- ---- ----- ------ ----- $s.House.temp 22.5 22.5 1 X $c.House.setpoint 23.0 23.0 1 X $i.House.time 0 14.28 2 X
Chris Jahn Posted March 24, 2016 Posted March 24, 2016 Hi larryllix, Thats very close to our current direction, The idea is to have user createable folders with each variable having an 'integer/state/other?' setting (rather than scoping it to the folder). To migrate existing variables, we'd create two folders 'Integer' and 'State' and set the type on each of the variables accordingly. Not sure when this will prioritized though.
sanders2222 Posted April 7, 2016 Posted April 7, 2016 +1 for Network Resources Folders +1 for Variables Folders Huh? How does this work? If I open either the NR or V tabs, hitting the plus key & number 1 only enters the text "+1" to where ever the cursor lies. The "ADD" button only adds yet another ID line. It would be nice to organize the lines into folders though. But I must be missing something. Whatever happened to the practice using the right mouse click button?

Perhaps you confused the posters upping the vote in the forum for a GUI webpage command in Admin Console? Th "add" button is the appropriate method to start a new variable or NR. Then you have to type a sane name into it and hit "save". Always click save oir it will disappear again.
