Just got my ISY994iZW. So far very nice. Have a few insteon devices functioning. One thing I could not find info about when searching the forum is if you can rename the 'current state' value. For example I have the garage door insteon setup. It gives the feedback of the IOlinc relay. OFF or ON. Can I rename these to OPEN and CLOSED?

If using the web interface for feed back it needs to be more descriptive to get the wife approval.

Thanks for all the great info I have found so far.

Hi Jeff,

Welcome to the Forum. You can rename your device nodes to your choosing. Just right click on the node in the device tree the click on rename. The current state value cannot be changed.

Thanks for the quick reply. Yep I seen how to rename the devices or scenes. So how do I see examples of OPEN and CLOSED in some of these apps? Is it the app that is doing this? Do you have any control on how it is displayed in the default web site?

What apps are you using?

The ISY dashboard is a pretty simple straight forward interface. See attached example.

Maybe I am being too picky. I just find the wording confusing. I would think for the garage door I could change it to one button. No need for both on and off. Then change the status to OPEN or CLOSED.

Labeling can be changed. It is just the ease of explaining what each item does and the feed back it gives.

Jeff,

I use mobilinc app (android version) to gain access to my system. It DOES provide ability to rename states. I use it for doors and locks.

Mobilinc is the only app I'm aware of that will permit renaming of state.  This might make a good Product Request however?

Other than UDAjax, HAD is a customizable browser based interface and can be accessed via the ISY Portal if you have it installed.  As far as I know though it doesn't offer renaming of states.

Thanks Guys. I was looking at MobileLinc for android. So you are happy with it? I like that I can install it on all my android devices. I was thinking of getting some cheap tablets to have around the house. These can be cheaper than the multi button switches. Even thought of creating a windows web server and using the rest commands to make my own interface. Lots of ideas... but I want to make sure I am traveling down the right road... not the least traveled one anyway :)

Mobilinc is a relatively inexpensive tried and (somewhat :) true mobile interface that's plug and play.  There are also upcoming apps (Agave) that might be competition to it.  HAD can be hosted from ISY if you have 994i Pro version and either the network module or the ISY Portal.

The new Agave app for Android is great. It is very new so not perfect but the development is progressing pretty quickly and should be released soon or you can ask to test the beta. Android development for MobiLinc has not progressed in a long time, and is basically dead AFAIK.

If considering Mobilinc on Android - test it with Mobilinc Lite first.

Personally, I'm frustrated by very slow performance, a failure to (quickly) determine if on wifi (for faster performance), and complete lack of plugin support.

As Teken said, they added Tasker support to MobiLinc quite a while ago - and then development stalled - while the IOS version of Mobilinc marches on. I decided to cut my losses, and created my own interface in native Tasker.

Others had developed their own UIs with iRule.

Another option is to take HAD and run it on your own Raspberry Pi (or similar). It's open source, so you can modify it to your heart's content.

For me, remote control via phone is a minor concern.  I don't have a lot of interest in such things.

As others have mentioned, for android, it is the integration with Tasker that most excites me.  This provides the ability to automate things based on cell phone conditions, such as location, connection to a car Bluetooth, things like that.

But, for those few devices for which I occasionally control via cell phone (garage door, outside lights, door locks) I like the widgets that one can create, either through tasker or directly with mobilinc.  I do not like the idea of opening an app and navigating through pages just to turn on a light.

If you want use tablets around the house to control things think about using Tasker also. I use this with MobiLinc and wall mount them and it works great.
