More Thermostat Questions

I have a 7 day venstar with insteon adapter on order.

I wanted to get some clarification if possible. From what I have read you cannot use ISY programs with this unit when it is in program mode. I guess the set points can't be adjusted.

I also understand you cannot adjust humidity set ponts at all via ISY programs because of the adapter's API limitation. This seems to be done in the thermostat setup.

I'm wondering if I can use the built in Humidity control (if I order the optional module) and at the same time have the unit in manual mode to allow heat/cool setpoints via ISY prgrams.

Another thing, I got the 7 day because in the event of an ISY failure I still want to have the thermostat programs run. There shouldn't be any reason I can't switch back and forth manually correct?

If anyone has feedback on this I'd appreciate it.

Steve,

The program mode issue is correct.

I don't have the humidity module yet, but I read the comments previously posted on this site. However, as soon as I receive the humidity module, I'm going to run my humidifier based on programs to keep my humidity in comfort level.

The thermostat can be changed to following modes: heat/cool/prog heat/ prog cool/ off. So in case ISY fails, you can change to prog modes...

Enjoy...

On a completely different note:

I am pondering the addition of a wireless Venstar temperature module to monitor different parts of my home.

Will the ISY see and be able to make a decision (If/Then) based on the input from the wireless sensor? And if so, how many of the remote sensors will the ISY see?

Hello Joe,

Currently, the protocol provides zone number (1-4) for other sensors but, to be honest, we have never tested it. So, I cannot be sure if it works and how accurate it would be.

With kind regards,

Michel

Michel:

So, do you want me to get a couple and test it? My treat!

I have a few comments:

I am using a remote sensor on my thermostat. I have set the thermostat to use the remote sensor instead of it's own sensor. I would surmise that there would not be a way to have the ISY know what the temperature is in three different rooms where there are remote sensors in those rooms. My understanding is that, if you use three sensors, the thermostat averages these and would report to the ISY what this average is, not what the three different numbers are.

As far as the thought that you buy the 7-day programmable thermostat so that it can run in program mode if the ISY fails:

I believe that you could just use a 1-day for this. If you want to run the program, you run it, but otherwise you use the ISY. I'd suggest not being dissappointed by the fact that you can't run a program and run the ISY at the same time, because you can make your "program" in the ISY.

Also: I believe that you need the 1800 or 1900 model to be able to use a remote sensor. Also: when you order the sensor(s), make sure you order a sending module.
